9. Estructura de un Sistema de Información
Gerencial
El sistema de información gerencial se puede informar como una estructura
piramidal.
La parte inferior de la pirámide está comprendida por la información
relacionada con el procesamiento de las transacciones preguntas sobre
su estado.
El siguiente nivel comprende los recursos de información para apoyar las
operaciones diarias de control.
El tercer nivel agrupa los recursos del sistema de información para
ayudar a la planeación táctica y la toma de decisiones relacionadas con el
control Administrativo.
El nivel más alto comprende los recursos de información necesarios para
apoyar la planeación estratégica y la definición de política de los niveles
más altos de la administración
10. CÓMO UTILIZAR LA INFORMACIÓN PARA TOMAR
DECISIONES
Un sistema de información gerencial operativo es particularmente
importante en el medio social y económico actual, en el cual los gerentes
necesitan tomar decisiones que incluyen aspectos tales como la capacidad
financiera, la satisfacción de los clientes y el control de calidad. Los
directores mencionados no pueden tomar decisiones que aseguren la
supervivencia, ampliación y rentabilidad de sus programas y
organizaciones, si el sistema de información gerencial no produce
información completa, exacta y regular. Estas importantes decisiones
incluyen:
Selección apropiada de objetivo para fijar metas;
Selección apropiada de formas de distribución de productos y servicios
Coordinación de actividades del sector público y del sector privado;
Establecimiento de tarifas que cubran los costos fijos de los productos y
servicios;
Desarrollo de modelos para la prestación de servicios y la satisfacción
de los clientes
11. CÓMO PUEDE AYUDAR UN SIG EFECTIVO A UN
ADMINISTRADOR
Un sistema de información gerencial efectivo proporciona los datos
necesarios a los administradores para analizar la situación actual, identificar
problemas inmediatos y encontrar soluciones, descubrir patrones y
tendencias que les permitan formular objetivos apropiados para el futuro y
tomar decisiones inteligentes sobre el uso de recursos limitados tanto
humanos como financieros y materiales.
Para determinar si el sistema de información gerencial es efectivo, hay que
contestar a las siguientes preguntas:
¿Se recolecta la información en forma continua y regular?
¿Es confiable la información recolectada?
¿Opera el SIG en todos los niveles de la organización?
¿Contiene el sistema un mecanismo regular de retroalimentación?
¿Se elaboran los informes periódica y regularmente?
12. CÓMO DESARROLLAR UN SISTEMA EFECTIVO DE
INFORMACIÓN GERENCIAL
Se requiere un gran esfuerzo, experiencia, tiempo y dinero para crear un
sistema de información gerencial que produzca información integrada y
completa. El desarrollo o mejoramiento de tal sistema, es, generalmente,
una tarea organizacional de gran envergadura.
Sin embargo, aun cuando la organización no se haya impuesto el
compromiso de desarrollar esta tarea, se puede realizar una función
importante para mejorar el sistema y cubrir sus necesidades.
De esta manera, pueden hacerse mejoras evidentes en el sistema de
información gerencial sin que esto represente una gran carga para la
organización. Si el proyecto es grande, es probable que se requiera trabajar
estrechamente con el experto en SIG. En conjunto llevarán a cabo los pasos
necesarios para obtener una idea general de todo el SIG, la manera en que
funciona y lo que necesita mejorarse. Si el proyecto de SIG es pequeño, el
administrador puede responsabilizarse de este proceso.
