The Portuguese Parliament approved a final version of a bill authorizing euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill or seriously injured patients. The bill passed with 136 votes in favor and 78 against. The bill combines five previous bills on the right to die that were approved in February. The constitution says life is "sacrosanct" but abortion is legal. The president can veto the bill but parliament can override the veto with another vote. Some other EU nations have legalized euthanasia and assisted suicide.
