This document discusses single parent families. It defines a single parent family as one headed by a widowed, divorced, or unmarried parent with children under 18. Common causes of single parenthood include divorce, death of a spouse, teenage pregnancy, adoption, and donor insemination. Effects on children can include lower academic achievement due to less attention, emotional issues from living in poverty, but positive effects like strong responsibility skills are also possible depending on other factors. Advantages include sole decision making ability and more bonding time with children, while disadvantages involve financial problems, potential emotional issues for children, loneliness, healthcare costs, and high stress levels.
Single-parent families are more common that ever, but that does not make the situation any easier or less stressful. Being both a father figure and a mother figure to a parent is nearly impossible, and having only 1 set of hands to have everything doesn't help.
As a single parent, you may be responsible for all aspects
of day-to-day child care, which can result in added pressure, stress and
fatigue. If you're too tired or distracted to be supportive
or discipline your child, behavioral problems might arise.
In addition, single-parent families generally have lower incomes and
less access to health care than those with 2 parents. Juggling work and children can be
financially difficult and socially isolating. You might also worry about
the lack of a male or female parental role model for your child.
Webster's New World Dictionary defines parenting as work or skill of a parent in raising a child or children. The same definition applies to single parenting, except in this case the single parent assumes the role of both father and mother. There are a number of circumstances that lead to single parenting: divorce, separation, abandonment, and death.
This is a Persuasive Speech for SP111 at Mt. Hood Community College about Single-Parent Families needing Respect, because Single-Parent families can be very successful, not all the negativity it is portrayed to be.

Human sexuality is the way people experience & express themselves sexuality. This involves biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behaviors. Physical and emotional aspects of sexuality include bonds between individuals that are expressed through profound feelings or physical manifestations of love, trust, and care. Social aspects deal with the effects of human society on one's sexuality, while spirituality concerns an individual's spiritual connection with others. Sexuality also affects and is affected by cultural, political, legal, philosophical, moral, ethical, and religious aspects of life

10 Disruptive Quotes for EntrepreneursGuy Kawasaki
People think that innovation happens by sitting around with your buddies and letting magical ideas pop into your head. Or, your customers tell you exactly what they need, and you just have to build it.
Dream on. Innovation is a hard, messy process with no shortcuts. It starts with making something that you’d like to use and that might make people’s lives better. Then you have to get the word out that your product or service exists.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
2. WHAT IS SINGLE PARENT FAMILY?
Single parent family are families with children under age 18 headed by a
parent who is widowed or divorced and not remarried, or by a parent who
has never married.
3. CAUSES OF SINGLE-PARENT FAMILY
Single parent family is caused by numerous reasons:
Divorce - Single parenting due to divorce means that the divorced single parent will have the primary
custody of the child or children. The single parent will do the major obligation of raising the child or
children but the other parent can still be involved in the family.
Death - Single parenting due to widowhood may give a parent an unforeseen parenting obligation that
will cause her to underwent difficult time of adjustment.
Early pregnancy - Raising a child alone during teenage period is tough. Teen single parents underwent
stresses because of young age and inability to prepare for the future. Single parenting during teenage
years usually happen to kids who are rebellious from their parents.
4. CAUSES CONT’D
Adoption - Single parenting due to adoption is a viable option for single people who feel incomplete
in life. However, loneliness should not be your sole motivation to choose single parenting. It could
be a part of it but the desire to nurture and share life as a family should come first. In the United
States, single parent adoptions is the fastest growing trend in the adoption field. Single parents due
to adoption are usually single parents who work full-time, financially responsible and emotionally
mature.
Donor insemination -Single parenting due to donor insemination is the most controversial option for
building a family today. Donor insemination is the process of achieving pregnancy through injection
of semen into the reproductive tract of a female. Single mothers who choose to conceive children in
this option include lesbians who wish to bear children.
5. EFFECTS OF SINGLE PARENT FAMILY
Academic Achievement-Most single-parent households are run by mothers, and the absence of a father -- coupled with lower
household income -- can increase the risk of children performing poorly in school. The lack of financial support from a father
often results in single mothers working more, which can in turn affect children because they receive less attention and
guidance with their homework.
Emotional Effects-Having only one income earner in the home puts single parent households at risk for poverty, finds research
compiled by the University of Washington's West Coast Poverty Center. Living in poverty is stressful and can have many
emotional effects on children, including low self-esteem, increased anger and frustration and an increased risk for violent
behavior.
Positive Effects-Single parenting can have positive effects on children as well, depending on other factors such as personality
types and parenting techniques. According to a study at Cornell University, positive single parenting did not show any
negative impact on the social and educational development of the 12- and 13-year-olds participating in the study. In addition,
children in single-parent families may exhibit strong responsibility skills, as they are often called upon to help out more with
family chores and tasks.
7. ADVANTAGES
No compromises. You get to be the sole decision maker. With big decisions, especially if you have an amicable
co-parenting relationship, you may have to occasionally consult the other parent.
You have breaks. This isn't the case with all single parents, but many children spend some time with the other
parent, usually overnight. This gives you a chance to kick back and do nothing, soak in the tub, or get to that
book you have been dying to read.
More bonding. Spouses can be awfully needy. Spending quality time with your kids is not always easy when
there is another adult in the house. As a single parent, you and your kids can play games, talk, or just relax,
without anyone else butting in or demanding attention.
Build self-esteem. All of these extra responsibilities will show you that you can think for yourself, and you are
capable of making wise decisions for your children.
Less stress. When you aren't spending all of your time and energy fighting with a spouse, you feel happier, your
children feel happier, and there is much less stress in your home. You finally have the time and energy to spend
9. DISADVANTAGES
Financial Problems-Single parenthood offers you a chance to develop a strong bond with your kids by engaging
in activities like watching a movie, going on a picnic or shopping, according to Condrell. Fun activities help build
unity within your family, and you can set aside time with your children.
Emotional Problems-Your child or children could fall victim to emotional problems if you do not bond with them
efficiently, or they could become involved in frequent feuds with their non-resident father.
Loneliness-In a two-parent home, there are two adults who typically make the decisions for the
household.
Healthcare-Another major issue for single parents is healthcare. Even if a single parent has health
insurance, premiums and deductibles can put a huge dent in an already stretched budget.
Stress-Because you are the main person responsible for the care of yourself and your children, an
enormous amount of stress can build up in the life of a single parent.
