This document describes simultaneous generation and natural gas expansion planning. It discusses:
1) Generation expansion planning (GEP) aims to determine new generation capacity and technologies to meet long-term electricity demand at minimum cost while ensuring reliability. Natural gas is an important fuel for new generation.
2) Coordinating GEP with natural gas expansion planning (NGEP) is important as the fuel supply must be available to support new generation. The objective is to minimize total investment and operating costs of both systems.
3) Constraints include capacity, reliability, emissions limits, fuel usage limits, budgets, and ensuring sufficient energy and natural gas supply to meet demand at each point in the planning horizon.
