2. SIMPLE PAST
• In addition to being one of the main verb tenses in English, the past
simple or past simple is very easy to use, understand and learn. The
first thing to remember is that the purpose of this verb tense is to talk
about an action or situation that occurred and ended in the past,
where its duration is irrelevant.
3. How is the past simple used?
• As we have said before, the past simple or past simple of English is a
verb tense that expresses situations or actions that occurred in the
past, and although they can be from the recent past or the distant
past, their duration is not important; It should only be understood
that these have already ended.
• There are some cases that have context expressions, which will help
you explain when the events occurred. These can go at the beginning
or at the end and the idea will be clearer.
4. A year ago I was in Paris I was in Paris a year ag Hace un año estuve en París
In 1989 The Berlin Wall fell The Berlin Wall fell in 1989 El muro de Berlín cayó en 1989

jugábamos descalzos
5. verb conjugation
To conjugate a sentence in this verb tense, it is necessary to use regular and irregular verbs.
• We usually recognize a verb in the simple past tense, by having the "-ed" ending, for
example:
• Promise - Promised
• Announce - Announced
• Crash - Crashed
• Punish - Punished
• Accept - Accepted
• Avoid - Avoided
• Sneeze - Sneezed
• Cry - Cried
• Miss - Missed
6. • On the other hand, there is another class of verbs that, by their very nature,
have a predetermined past form and are not formed with "-ed". These verbs are
known as irregular, because they do not follow any rules and the only way to
recognize them is by memorizing them.

7. STRUCTURE TO MAKE SENTENCES
Affirmative sentence
• The basic formula of affirmations in the simple past is: Subject + verb in the past +
complement. It is the easiest way, since all you have to do is conjugate the verb in the past
tense.
• Ej: “I visited my family last summer” (Yo visité a mi familia el verano pasado).
The verb "to be" in the past simple is a particular and very important case, since it is used very
frequently in English:
• “Was” para she, he, I e it.
• “Were” para we, you y they.
• Ej: “She was confident” (Ella era segura de sí misma).
• “We were in Philadelphia yesterday” (Nosotros estábamos en Philadelphia ayer).
8. negative sentence:
For negations in the past simple, the auxiliary must be added, which in this case
would be “didn't” (the contraction of “did not”), for all persons, and then the verb
must be put in the infinitive. The basic formula would be the following:
Subject + didn't + infinitive verb + object
Ex: “She did not pass the exam”. (She did not pass the exam)
Interrogative sentence:
To ask questions in the past simple, the auxiliary must be put at the beginning, as
in all other tenses, and the verb must be in the infinitive. So the basic formula
would be:
Did + sujeto + verbo en infinitivo + complemento
Ej: “Did you go to the theatre?” (¿Fuiste al teatro?)
