Shankha Prakshalana is also known as Varisar Dhauti which is a part of Shatkarma (Cleansing Practice). Shatkarma is part of Hath Yoga. Wholesome purging of Gastrointestinal Tract with the help of
lukewarm saline water and precise series of Asanas.
To wash completely

Drink 250ml of
lukewarm saline water
and perform these
precise series of asanas

4. Physiological Explanation of Asanas

Opens pyloric
sphincter muscle of
stomach, then water
enters into small
intestine.
Contracts both sides
of the intestinal
layers repeatedly,
then water enters
into intestinal layers.

5. 3. Katichakrasana
4. Tiryakabhujangasana
Twists whole smooth
muscles of intestine
then due to pressure
water passes
downwards.
Opens the ileocecal
sphincter muscle
then, water enters
into the large
intestine.

6. Finally, stagnant stools and mucus are
eliminated along with the evacuation of
bowels from the gastro intestinal tract.

Provides stretching in
digestive organs then
contraction &
relaxation occurs in
gastro intestinal tract.

Encourages good bowel movement.
