They have a new coach, Jonathan Mokuena, who hopes to lead the team to victory this year. Many NWU-Pukke players were selected to the 2015 Varsity Cup Dream Team, so they have the talent to win if they can execute their game plan. Their first match should provide an early indication of whether they can improve on past performances and potentially win the 2016 Varsity Cup.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 3. SOROPTIMIST “S” CLUB: There will be a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 15th at 1pm in Rm. A210. Members are reminded to pay their $5 dues at that time. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given. We will be discussing three upcoming community service projects, and one field trip to a TV station. See Mr. Fong if you have any questions.
- 4. JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Here is the list of the upcoming college visits for next week. Sign-up via Family Connections and get the permission form, that is available under “document library” of the home page of Family Connections, signed by your teacher.
- 5. COLLEGE INFORMATIONAL: Duke, Harvard, Georgetown University, Univ. of Pennsylvania and Stanford are having an informational session for students and parents tonight at 7:30pm at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. Register at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org.
- 6. UH MANOA: Scholarship applications for the University of Hawaii Manoa campus are now available online. This is for the Regents, Chancellors and Merit scholarships. You should have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Mr. Fong has copies of the application forms in his office. The deadline is Jan. 16, 2016.
- 7. PAC-FIVE WRESTLING: Conditioning will be held on Mondays & Fridays, 4:30-6:00pm in the University Lab School Cafe, beginning this Friday, Oct. 9th. Students are to bring shorts and a t-shirt for sport specific exercises on the mat and athletic shoes for ultimate Frisbee. Participation is highly recommended in preparation for the season.
- 8. LANCER ATHLETICS SHIRTS: All Fall student athletes may stop by the Athletic Office after school to pick-up your shirts which have been donated by the Booster Club.
- 9. ROBOTICS: We will be hosting the VEX IQ Robotics Competition on Saturday, Oct. 10th at the Student Center. There will be 24 teams competing. SHA will have 2 teams of 3rd and 4th graders and 2 teams of Jr. High students also in the competition.
