1. My name is Sandra Bassett, and I am an IT Manager who thrives on assessing
the business need, and delivering the right solution. I enjoy managing change
while building and fostering high performance teams.
Growing up, I was an active sports participant with a love of math and puzzle
solving – not the female stereotype. Then I discovered the computer world and
the joy of solving business problems through programming. As my skills and
experiences grew, I became a go-to person, a mentor, and a leader.
My greatest passions have always been solving problems and helping others.
Solving the business problems with the right solution drives my performance.
Determining the ultimate need may require looking beyond the quick response.
With a true understanding of the business need, developing a solution may be
clear-cut or it may require several stepping stones of action. Looking at a
production problem is not only the immediate patch, but rather a need to
discover the root cause, a short term solution, and a plan to avoid future
occurrences. Seeking both quality and timeliness, I look to balance both the
short and the long term need, in order to map a plan of action.
Learning is a lifetime exercise. Throughout my career, I have participated in,
and helped others in expanding our knowledge through formal, classroom
education, on-the-job training, and advanced certification. As a coach and
mentor, I have been able to help others with technical and career questions,
something that always gives me a charge. My mantra has always been: “Ask.
If I do know, I will share. If I don’t know, I will find out.” My success in building
a high performance team has been recognized in awards received from
business and senior management. The greatest compliments I’ve receive are
when my reputation preceded me and people ask to play on one of my teams.
