West Melton show

- 8. Changes that occur Changes that Occur During Puberty Body shape changes: shoulders and hips widen. Height increases, rapidly in some people. Weight increases, rapidly in some people. Muscles develop, becoming stronger and more noticeable. Gums can be tender or sore. Appetite increases. Body hair increases: hair begins to develop under the arms and around the vulva or the base of the penis. Hair on arms and legs becomes more noticeable. Hair grows on the face. Oil glands in the skin become more active and can cause pimples and acne. Sweat glands become more active and this can lead to body odour. The voice changes and deepens. The penis and testes get bigger. Boys experience erections from time to time and begin to have wet dreams. The vulva gets bigger. Internal parts, including the vagina, uterus, and ovaries, get bigger. Internal parts, including the seminal vesicles and the prostate gland, get bigger. Girls begin menstruating (having periods). Breasts grow, and nipples get bigger. Testes begin to produce sperm. Many people feel more emotional, and their moods swing. Many people have new thoughts and feelings about themselves and who they are, and new thoughts and feelings about other people. Many people have new concerns about what others think of them and begin to feel self-conscious. Many people feel tired more often than before. Many people feel awkward and clumsy.
