You should be able to know:
 Bottleneck Operations
 Concept of competitiveness
 Reasons of organizational failures
 Concept of strategy
 Operations Strategy
• Increase process capacity
– Add resources at the bottleneck operation.
– Always have a part for the bottleneck to
process.
– Assure that the bottleneck works only on
quality parts.
– Examine your production schedule.
– Increase the time the operation is working.
– Minimize downtime.
– Perform process improvement on the
bottleneck resource.
– Reassign some of the bottleneck’s work.
The ability and performance of a firm, sub-
sector or country to sell and supply goods and
services in a given market, in relation to the
ability and performance of other firms, sub-
sectors or countries in the same market.
• Firm competitiveness
• National competitiveness
• Trade Competitiveness
• Failure to understand your market and customers.
• Opening a business in an industry that isn’t
profitable.
• Failure to understand and communicate what you
are selling.
• Overdependence on a single customer.
• Not knowing when to say “No.”
• Inadequate financing.
• Reactive attitudes.
• Poor management.
• No planning

goals under conditions of uncertainty.
