This document discusses design principles for future internet socio-economic services in European research projects. It outlines the conflicting interests between different players like users, providers, ISPs, and application providers. It proposes design objectives like cross-layer and cross-player optimization to promote mutually beneficial cooperation. Key design principles include allowing limited information exchange between layers and players, providing incentives to affect stakeholder behavior, and permitting players to express preferences without dictating outcomes. Economic traffic management mechanisms are discussed as a way to promote collaboration across layers and stakeholders in an "all-win" situation.
