- Hi everyone! My name is Michaela and I work at a company called Servest and have done for the past 5 years. In a nutshell, we provide facilities and professional services to a wide-range of clients including the Houses of Parliament, Tesco and the BBC. Over the past several years, Servest has been growing organically and through acquisitions all across the globe. More and more businesses were being acquired and along with that, more and more cultures were being introduced and we felt as though we were losing that personal ‘community feel’. We believe in order to succeed, our cultures need to be aligned or at least very similar. The question was, how were we going to achieve this?
- To paint a picture, only 10% of our colleagues work in an office. 90% of them work remotely or on one of our client’s sites. Guess how many of them had access to development courses this time last year? Yep – only 10% of them…and that wasn’t because we didn’t WANT to offer them the courses but logistically, that would be a nightmare... The business had a real want and need for a more extensive L&D offering. We either needed to increase our team size and hire a bunch of new trainers…or think outside the box. We needed to make some drastic changes. We decided that an online solution was the way forward so that everyone could own their own development.
- And so Servest Street was born. Everyone now has access to over 100 online courses – anything from improving your English, how to chair a disciplinary meeting, how to check right to work documents correctly, modern day slavery and a really thorough, interactive online company induction. All of these are separated in to individual categories for easy navigation. We also actively promote internal recruitment on Servest Street with our aspirational roles, career management and succession planning. Our recruitment team can report on all of this at a click of a button. So we created it and gave everyone a log in….we then held our breath and crossed our fingers…..
- And nothing bad happened…..in fact……people started using it…..a lot. And our course completion now sits at 6000 today in the short space of eight months. To put that in to context, in the last 16 months, we have delivered 400 physical workshops to around 3000 colleagues. With our current resource and delivering at that rate, it would take us 20 years to deliver 6000 workshops.
