This document outlines the duties and responsibilities of a Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator. The operator operates and controls membrane and conventional water treatment plants, collects samples to monitor water quality and treatment processes, and controls water storage and production to meet demand. The operator also maintains the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, responds to chemical emergencies, inspects machinery, coordinates other operators, and performs other assigned duties.

1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates, controls and keeps records of membrane and conventional water treatment plant
production in accordance with operational strategies developed by the treatment plant supervisor
and/or the chief treatment plant operator, including the operation of remote and satellite facilities
including wells, storage and booster pumping stations;
Collects samples and conducts operator control tests including but not limited to turbidity, chlorine
residual, and pH to monitor performance at main, remote, and satellite facilities; adjusts operations,
determines chemical feed rates, and ensures compliance with environmental requirements;
Controls water storage levels and plant production rates in accordance with operational strategies
to meet daily demand; this includes, but is not limited to, filter operations, backwashing,
interpretation of performance through flow control, head loss and turbidity data;
Maintains Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system integrity by regularly backing
up application and system software, historical data, and current database information;
Responds to chemical emergency alarms while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
such as respirators and self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA);
Inspects machinery and mechanical equipment in operation and detects deficiencies in the
operational process;
Coordinates the work of subordinate operators while on shift, and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
