Senior Project Speech
My grandfather always says one should never quit never give up and always find the key. Sean Cheshire
is a Senior at CreekviewHighschool and he did not make the baseball team his junior year but he did not
quit and he did not give up. He asked me if I could help him find the key so he could make the baseball
team his senior year.
Hi my name is Dondrei Hubbard and my senior project is giving Sean baseball lessons.
First I had to see what Sean’s was capable of doing already. I soon realized that even though he
wasn’t horrible I personally was going to have a tough time helping him get better so I called Coach
Phillips, my summer baseball coach and also a former minor league baseball player to see if he could
help me help Sean. Coach Phillips saw Sean’s attributes and told me all the things that we had to do to
help Sean become a better baseball player. He told me that Sean need to get stronger and more flexible,
he needs to run and he needs to take a lot of infield and hit a bunch of balls in the batting cages. He also
told me the only way Sean is going to improve is by practicing. His favorite quote is practice doesn’t
make perfect but perfect practice makes perfect. So that is what we did. We started on December 1st by
going in the weight room. Our weight room days we would all ways stretch first then we would either do
flat bench and front squats, incline bench and back squats, or 45lb plate lunges and dumbbell curls.
Then we would end by doing 100 pushups and 100 sit-ups. On other days we would go outside and
Stretch and throw on the field, then I would hit him 200 grounders and he hit about 300 balls in the
cages.
Sean had a strong arm but it needed to be stronger and he was that good of a fielder. So instead of using
his glove to field the ball he would use an instrument called soft hands.
The purpose of the soft hands To develop softer and quicker hands, a must for good infield play. Anyone
that is serious about becoming a better infielder, especially a middle infielder. A soft hand tool is worn
on the glove hand, in place of the glove. It teaches an infielder to correctly give with the ball, developing
“softer hands”.
To improve his hitting we used variety of tools like the thunder stick and the sweet spot and the classic
tee.
We would like all balls hit to be hit perfectly on the "sweet spot".This new training bat has a unique
design that features a regular bat handle attached to a "sweet spot" only barrel. This unique design
forces the player to get the barrel through the zone and to hit the ball on the "sweet spot" every time.

I would love to pursue a career in coaching because I love sports I formally play football basketball and I
am currently playing baseball right now. Coaching was really fun and I could interact with people and
help them and by helping them I have also imporved my game.
My grandfather also says quitters never win and Winners never quit and therefore Sean is a winner.
Thanks for listening. Any Questions?
