3. The grind is when you do whatever you can to
achieve a goal
4. I remember when I
couldn’t do something
I would get really
frustrated and
eventually give up. I
recall one period in
my life when I couldn’t
make a shot in
basketball and I
stopped playing
basketball all
together
5. Then one day while at
the YMCA with my dad, he
taught me how to play
and shoot. It toke a while
for me to make my shot
at first. Then I made a
shot. That shot boosted
my confidence.
6. But then I missed
more shots without
hitting any so I gave
up. Sometime that
weekend we went
back to the YMCA. My
dad showed me
some shooting and
dribbling drills. After
that I sat down and
watched him and my
uncle play for the
rest of the time we
were there.
7. We went back that next
weekend and played until
more people showed up.
During that time my uncle
and dad showed me where
to put my hands when I
shoot. After that they
showed me how to stand.
Then they showed me how
to follow through with my
shot.
8. After I got that down they told me to make five shots in a row for close up and if I
missed I had to start over. After I made those five shots strait I had to step back and
then make five more shots strait and so on until I got to the three point line and
made 5 shots strait there. But I never made it to the 3-point line. That day I quit at
the free throw line before making it to the 3-point line.
9. Again I nearly decided to quit
playing all together but then I
watched a Chicago Bulls
game. I saw this one guy come
in and dunk I was like wow I
want to do that. That guy was
Derrick Rose. So the next day I
went to the basketball court
and tried to dunk I couldn’t
even touch rim nor hold on to
the ball. So then I thought
maybe I can shoot like he
does.
10. After that I decided that the only way I could ever get
better is if I practice
