Obaid Siddiqi was an Indian molecular biologist born in 1932 who made significant contributions to the understanding of genetics and the genetic code. He received his doctorate from the University of Glasgow and later collaborated with Alan Garen at the University of Pennsylvania where they discovered suppressors of nonsense mutations, helping reveal how stop codons terminate protein synthesis. Siddiqi received many honors over his career including Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards and helped establish the TIFR's National Center for Biological Sciences before passing away in 2013.

6. CARRER AND ACHIEVEMENTS
In 1961, Obaid joined Alan Garen at the University of
Pennsylvania.
Siddiqi and Garen discovered the suppressors of
"nonsense" mutations.
 This work was important to the discovery of
"nonsense" codons, the stop signals in the genetic
code and mechanism of chain termination during
protein synthesis.

18. CARRER AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Edward Jenner also known as father of Immunology was an
English country doctor who pioneered in vaccination.
Jenner's discovery in 1796 that inoculation with cowpox gave
immunity to smallpox, was an immense medical breakthrough.
On the 14 May 1796, when a young milkmaid called Sarah
Nelmes came to see him with sores on her hands like blisters,
Jenner identified that she had caught cowpox from the cows
she handled each day.

20. Jenner believed that if he could inject someone with
cowpox, the germs from the cowpox would make the
body able to defend itself against the dangerous
smallpox germs which he would inject later.

22. In 1796 he inserted pus taken from Sarah Nelmes, a
milkmaid with cowpox, into a cut made in the arm of
a local boy, James Phipps.
Several days later, Jenner exposed the boy to
smallpox. He was found to be immune.
In 1798 after carrying out further successful tests, he
published his findings: An Inquiry into the Causes
and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae, a Disease
Known by the Name of Cow Pox.
