This document summarizes key findings from a Pew Research Center report on social media and technology use among adults and teens. Some of the main points include:
- 67% of online adults use social media, with Facebook being the dominant platform. Usage varies by age, with young people being the heaviest users.
- About 61% of Facebook users have taken a break from Facebook for several weeks or more at some point. Reasons for breaks include drama/oversharing and wanting to spend less time on social media.
- Teen social media use is high, with 81% using social media. However, some are finding Facebook less appealing and are using platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat more.
This report investigates how social learning theory and communication have changed in the 21st century. A survey was conducted with questions about communication preferences and technology usage across different age groups. The results showed that younger people rely more on technology like smartphones for communication and find it hard to disconnect. Older people showed less reliance on technology and were more likely to think society's dependency on it is too high. This aligns with social learning theory, as younger generations learned behaviors around new technologies as they emerged, while older people did not grow up with the same technologies and learned different communication styles. However, the survey sample size was small so results cannot be generalized.
The survey summarizes information from interviews conducted with over 4,400 people in Gezi Park on June 6-7, 2013 during protests. Key findings include:
- Most protesters learned of the protests through social media or saw police violence, which motivated them to attend.
- Protesters came from across Istanbul, though especially western districts, and represented a variety of groups and demographics.
- While politically engaged, around half did not identify with any political party.
- Protesters demanded protection of freedoms and rights and opposed government policies.
This document discusses research into how and why people use the social media platform Twitter. It begins by defining Twitter and providing statistics on its growth. The research aims to understand the differences between Twitter and blogs or social networking sites. An online survey was conducted with 197 respondents. The results found that Twitter is used to stay connected even from a distance, as a news source, to maintain weaker ties, and as a life log. Users reported Twitter decreasing their use of other platforms and increasing real-world interactions and word-of-mouth recommendations. Different types of users were identified through cluster analysis.
Social networking allows people to connect with friends and make new connections online by sharing content and interacting through websites and apps. While it enables worldwide connectivity and real-time sharing, overuse can negatively impact studies, health, and attitudes. Social networking provides both advantages like strengthened relationships and awareness of global issues, but also disadvantages like less real-life interaction, privacy concerns, time wasted, and potential for cyberbullying. Whether social networking is beneficial depends on individual circumstances and taking proper precautions with personal information.
ScienceOnline2011 Web2.Owned Social Media SurveyMary Canady
The survey collected responses from 339 participants about their use of social media for science communication. Most (70%) respondents had science-related jobs. The survey found that Twitter was the primary way participants learned about the survey (65%) and the social media platform seen as providing the best science information (65%). Respondents highly rated their interest in science (average 6.58/7) and social networking (5.36/7) for keeping up with science. The most rewarding aspects of science and social media were found to be accessing new information and connecting with people, while information overload and lack of time were the most frustrating challenges.

RFP for Reno's Community Assistance CenterThis Is Reno

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

15. Final Thoughts
During Gezi Park, young people took on valued
roles, addressing issues that were relevant to
them, and influencing real outcomes.
After Gezi and the recent corruption cases,
young people have doubts about their
engagement’s influencing real outcomes.
The use of social media should be one
engagement tool to complement others such as
face to face.
16. The challenges
As the local election approaches, it is important to
realize how young people, especially youth from
different ideological backgrounds, are using new
media to amplify their voices in the political realm.
Especially Twitter became a new outlet for young
people in terms of participatory politics spreading
information, mobilizing for action and raising their
voices during Gezi.
However, with the government’s attempts to
muzzle the opposition on the Internet, what will
be the next steps to create a new public sphere?
