Act 1 Scene 1

We see a sad young man sitting on the steps toward Penshaw
Monument with the Monument behind him and a disembodied voice
begins to speak
TRISTAN
"That's me, on one of the most important days of my life. Its
the day I learned my truth, the day i could live with myself
and my city, that day really was..."
the title Monumental appears on screen, after a second of it
being on screen the voice speaks again
TRISTAN

Act 1 Scene 2

The camera opens on a messy bedroom with someone under the
covers of their bed and their alarm almost screaming at them
to wake up and get out of bed
TRISTAN
"aughhhh, shut the fuck up man"
Tristan says with tiredness and fatigue as he chucks his
phone across his room, it still screaming. He sits in his bed
with his head in his hands and reluctantly gets out of bed.
the camera switches perspective to the left side of the room
as Tristan opens the window blinds and is blinded by the
bright morning light. the camera switches again to a high
angle shot with Tristan squinting and sighing
The Giant by pencil begins to play
a slow montage of Tristan's morning routine with opening
credits on screen shots of the house are also shown with
different lyrics of the song matching what is on screen.
During the montage Tristan gets dressed he is clearly sad
with a shot of him staring at himself in the mirror with
disgust after he is done brushing his teeth

after Tristan is done getting dressed into his black and grey
clothes he goes down stairs and leaves his house and as the
door behind him closes the song abruptly ends

Act 1 Scene 3

camera opens to two rocks at the beginning of a dirt path
that leads to a wood
enter Tristan
Tristan is looking down at his phone about to call someone
and the phone begins to ring Tristan sits down on one of the
rocks
TRISTAN
"Hello?"
FELIX
"Tristan! It's been a while,
How are you doing marra?"
TRISTAN
"I'm..."
different images flash on screen for less than a second of
Tristan sitting alone in the dark, distorted images of family
photos and a limp arm laying off of a bed.
"not doing so well Felix, if I'm going to be honest with
you."
FELIX
"Well how's that like?"
TRISTAN
"There's nothing for me here in the Northeast,my home,I'm
sick to death of this place and everything reminds me of... "
FELIX
"Of?... Of what man?"
Tristan remains silent for second with a look as if he had
seen a ghost

TRISTAN
"I doesnt matter Felix mate,I'm just starting to lose
interest in-"
Felix interjects before Tristan finishes his sentence
FELIX
"Right okay mate, well I'll tell you what meet es in town and
we'll have a good day of it mate eh? I'll show ya why ya
should stay. Why I want ya to stay."
Tristan lightly smiles but he knows this wont work for him
TRISTAN
"alright mate... lets have a go"
FELIX
"Yep all good I'll see ya around 2 then mate yeah? alright
sound see ya bye!"
Felix hangs up before Tristan can respond which at first
surprises Tristan but makes him giggle and smile as he puts
his head down and hand over his eyes
TRISTAN
"This guy man"
Tristan gets up and as he does a jump cut to him waving a bus
down at a bus stop
jump cut to him then getting on and then another jump cut to
him getting off in at a different location
then a jump cut of his feet walking then a jump cut to a
close up of his mouth eating sausage roll from Greggs and a
slow zoom out to show that Tristan has travelled to
Sunderland City Centre.

Act 2, Scene 1

We cut to a P.O.V shot of Felix approaching Tristan from
behind with his hand out ready to scare Tristan

we cut to a two shot of Tristan sitting and Felix edging
closer to scare him
TRISTAN
"I can see ya shadow ya
absolute spenk"
FELIX
"aww for fuck sake"
Tristan gets up, turns around and daps up Felix and hugs him
FELIX
"So, if you think living round here is so bad, I'm gonna show
ya how absolutely wrong ya are"
TRISTAN
"You won't like but alright"
Felix lets out air from his nose and shakes his head
FELIX
"Ha'way then lets gan"
Both walk of screen heading further into Sunderland

Act 2, Scene 3

A handled shot in front of the two characters follow them
down Blandford street with the two walking side by side with
Tristan looking around with an expression of disgust and
Felix looking ahead with a light smile
TRISTAN
"Mate, this is shit. You're trying to prove a point that
Sunlun is nice and you've taken me to fucking Blandford
Street?"
FELIX
"See you just don't get it man, streets like these are
important for cities to have."

Tristan stops and turns to Felix and the camera switches to
an over the shoulder shot of Tristan
TRISTAN
"How?"
the camera will continuously cut from shot reverse shots
every time a character speaks or responds
FELIX
"This street is historical, where do you think everyone went
before the bridges eh?"
Tristan shrugs and remains silent
FELIX
"Blandford Street, and aye it might be run down and that now
but its apart of Sunlun and its just as beautiful as anything
else here"
Tristan Mumbles
TRISTAN
"not exactly very hard, that like"
camera cuts to a two shot of both the characters
FELIX
"look, if your bothered about looking pretty wait until we
get to end of this street, just watch."
Felix begins to slowly walk away while speaking and once he
gets to the end of his sentence he is off screen
Tristan rolls his eyes sighs and begrudgingly follows
End Scene.
Act 2 Scene 3

the scene opens with a P.O.V shot from Tristan's perspective
everything is noticeably darker and less saturated than
Felix's P.O.V . Tristan catches up to Felix at the end of the
street and Felix turns around and points behind him

Tristan turns to look at the Train station and looks back at
Felix still in P.O.V shot
the camera switches to a single shot at a low angle of
Tristan looking at Felix. Tristan gives it a second before he
speaks
TRISTAN
"Is that it?"
The camera switches again to an eye level handheld shot that
quickly pans from character to character
FELIX
"Is that it?!"
TRISTAN
"aye, is that it?"
FELIX
"You're joking aren't ya?"
TRISTAN
"Well nor"
FELIX
"oh honestly, there's no winning with you."
TRISTAN
"I just don't really like modern architecture."
FELIX
"OHHHH! you don't like modern architecture. So I show you an
old street, you don't like it. I show you new buildings, you
don't like it."
TRISTAN
"Well, I mean its nothing like Central Station in Newcast-"

"Don't! next your gonna say the Angel of the North is better
than Penshaw Monument..."
there's a moment of silence and a shot reverse shot of both
characters
TRISTAN
"I meeeeaaannnnnnn"
FELIX
"Nat. You know what were gonna have to do now like."
TRISTAN
"Are we actually going to Penshaw right now?"
FELIX
"Why aye, ya need to learn man. Ha'way."
Felix begins to walk back down Blandford street to get back
to Park Lane the camera switches to further down the street
with Felix walking towards the camera out of focus with
Tristan in focus stationary looking at Felix
Tristan shakes his head visibly annoyed and after a second of
watching him he begins to follow.

Act 3, Scene 1

fade transition to a sign of the Penshaw monument with a
handheld shot that turns to see Tristan and Felix walking up
towards the monument on the dirt path
fade transition to Tristan and Felix walking up the steps to
Penshaw Monument with the camera zoomed in on them intially
then zooms out to show how far away and small they are to the
monument
Another jumpcut to on the Penshaw Monument with both Tristan
and Felix panting while coming up the stairs they start t
appear in shot from walking up the stairs and Tristan puts
his hands on his knees and turns his head to Felix

Act 3, Scene 2

Time has noticeably passed with the sun about to set and the
two friends are sat looking out from the monument on the town
that they live in. The camera is behind them slowly creeping
up on them until Felix turns and speaks to his friend
FELIX
"It's beautiful mate."
TRISTAN
"aye...only cause we are fucking miles away from it"
Felix pulls a disgusted face in disbelief at Tristan's
continuous negative attitude toward the North East and he is
at his wits end
FELIX
"Tristan, honestly mate. Can you just shut the fuck up and
stop being negative all the time?"
Tristan is a bit taken a back by Felix's aggression
TRISTAN
"What?"
FELIX
"Honestly man, I've had enough of you constantly shutting me
down and that and your just doing my heading you little rat"
TRISTAN
"Well sorry for wanting to spend time with my mate because im
feeling down."
FELIX
"Aye and you make every cunt around you down as well. Like

there is a close up of Tristans face in slow motion and the
same images from when he was on the phone before to Felix and
Tristan then lets Felix know why he is so down and decides to
stop running from the past.His voice is
TRISTAN
"You know what Felix, my family and I are not on the best of
terms right now."
there is a silence between the two
FELIX
"how is that relevant at all?"
TRISTAN
"ITS LITERRALLY WHY I AM SO SAD! AND YOU DON'T EVEN CARE!"
FELIX
"oh... sorry"
TRISTAN
"We don't speak, they hate me for being a failure the thing
I've always tried not to be. I have no qualifications and
your my only friend I work a job I hate on minimum wage that
barely covers me in a third rate city I despise cause all i
think of when I am in it are memories of me and my family."
"I have had enough I just want to leave and start new."
FELIX
"Why not repair whats damaged?"
TRISTAN
"I am too far gone for that."
FELIX
"No You're Not."

FELIX
"Here we go again, honestly i'm so sick of this you just need
to WAKE UP!"
as Felix shouts wake up he pushes Tristan to the ground and
as he falls it goes into a POV shot of Tristan everything is
blurry and it fades to black.
End of Act 3.
Act 4, Scene 1

Tristan wakes up in his bed. the room is actually organised
and clean almost as if he's only just moved in. His hair has
been cut and he's shaven. He seems confused and unaware as to
why everything has changed he stops his alarm and gets ready
and calls Felix and begins to walk down stairs
TRISTAN
"Hey Felix, look i know that we've fought but i get what you
were saying like i know i was being and negative and i just
want to give what you were saying a chan-"
Tristan goes downstairs and sees his dining room is
completely empty
FELIX
"So a month goes by and now you decide to speak? I thought
you were meant to be moving away now anyway. You've sold the
house and everything and that."
TRISTAN
"What? How? I only spoke to you yesterday? I don't remember
any of that."
FELIX
"Seriously? Are you actually gonna try that shit? You
screamed at me and told me 'to never speak to you again'
stormed off and the last thing i heard about you was that
you'd sold your house and going away."
TRISTAN
"But I am ready to change, I want to change and I'm sorry. I

FELIX

Felix hangs up the phone
Tristan looks distraught he can't believe he's got what he
asked for all he can do is sit down on the floor flat on his
back with his hands on his head
The credits begin to roll with Tristan still on the floor and
Poltergeists by Sam Fender plays
