2. ACT 2
Day 2 of production was on the 21st March. As previously agreed after
our classes in college we went to the technicians' room to book the
camera and got the bus from Bede campus into Sunderland. Before we
headed there, as planned we looked at the resource list and the risk
assessment so that we had what we needed and were aware of the
dangers before filming. At first we were going film Act 2 Scene 1 but,
because we had to buy a Greggs sausage roll as Tristan eats a sausage
roll in this scene, the closest Greggs had run out so we decided to film
Scene 2 first while we waited for them to restock. From Park Lane we
walked down towards Blandford Street. To help us with the dialogue we
had the script on Sauls and my phone so we could practice before
filming began. Will would record us and I would help direct him on what
shots to take and what to do. After recording a shot we would check the
video and audio quality on the camera. After doing this for the first time
we noticed you could barely hear us speak, after pondering on why this
could be we found that the microphone wasnโt turned on. If we hadn't
checked the recording this could of ruined the entire footage we had
taken that day so this was really important to do in the end.
3. ACT 2
After filming the handheld two shot we moved on to the over the shoulder shot-
reverse-shots that happen when Felix and Tristan talk to each other. The way
these were filmed was by Will standing behind either mine or Sauls shoulder and
we would say our lines. We noticed that filming them in line order made the
camera jump around in position a little bit as Will would have to move back and
forth for each take. So to counter act this we decided to do all of one characters
lines first and then do the other characters lines afterwards. We would also cut
after a line was taken so there would be less to memorize for me and Saul. Also
Will didn't put on the strap thatโs on the camera around his next at first and
almost dropped it so I immediately told him to put it on so that we do not
damage College property. Once we had finished the over the shoulder shot-
reverse-shots on one part of Blandford street we moved down towards the
bottom end of Blandford street next to the newly built train station. The first shot
in this scene is a P.O.V shot from Tristans perspective. For the sake of being
pedantic I chose to be the camera operator for this shot. We then experimented
with a low angle shot as well as back and forth panning for when Felix and Tristan
are arguing. We also tried to shoot with selective focus but we couldn't figure it
out so we instead took a long tracking shot of Felix walking away and Tristan
following.
4. ACT 2
During the filming for the argument between Felix and Tristan the
camera we were using had died despite it being fully charged before
Now that we had finish filming that scene we could buy a sausage roll
and begin filming the first scene. This scene is very short as it is mainly
used to establish that Tristan and Felix have met, so filming this scene
was pretty simple and short to film. The first shot was an extreme close
up of Tristans mouth eating a Greggs sausage roll. We tried both Will
being up and close to my face and with the camera just zoomed in.
Because we had only one sausage roll we only had too chances at the
shot as I could just eat the two different sides of the sausage roll. From
there it was a POV shot from Felixs perspective with his hand in the
shot, so this time it definitely had to be the one behind the camera.
And to finish off with the day it was an over the shoulder shot-reverse-
shot with the last shot becoming a tracking shot of Felix and Tristan
walking down to Blandford street. We came a lot of problems today
but we did well to overcome them so I'm happy with the footage we
got today.
