1 FATHER TIME 1
2 INT.BEDROOM.NIGHT 2
A small boy is sleeping in a high rise bed in a room dimly
lit by an oil lamp
he picks up the oil lamp and blows it out
he hears a loud slam of a hardwood door coming from
outside his house and quickly relights the oil lamp.
he then quickly manoeuvres his way out of bed and walks
over to the open window and begins to jump to see whats
going on outside the house door as he isn’t tall enough.
he catches a glimpse of his father and the grandfather
exiting out of the door.
3 EXT.COBBLESTONE.NIGHT 3
a strong older looking hand reaches for the handle of the
door to the hut and pulls it shut . The grandfather walks
out struggling to hold what seems like a heavy spool of
rope.
The boy’s father takes the heavy spool of rope from the
old man and flings it around himself
they exchange some verbal communication and then proceed
to walk side by side down the cobblestone path out of the
town towards the hills.
4 INT.BEDROOM.NIGHT 4
The boy waits for them to get back but falls asleep on the
windowsill
5 INT.BEDROOM.MORNING 5
the scene begins with a slow zoom from a closeup shot of
the boy’s face.
Mother:(yelling) wake up, breakfast is ready
the boy slowly arises into the frame from the windowsill
as the camera’s depth of field shifts from focusing on his
room to his face
the boy gets up and quickly leaves the room almost but not
completely closing the door behind him.
2.
6 INT.KITCHEN.MORNING 6
the boy gets to the table where his mum his grandad
are gathered around the small circular kitchen table and
has to jump onto the chair in order to reach the table
His feet don’t touch the ground
the father enters the room
he tousled his son’s hair
father goes to kiss his wife good morning
son:(excited) where did you guys go yesterday!
the kiss has been interrupted
the father begins to stutter while rubbing his head.
he sees the glitter and shine of wonder and curiosity in
his son’s eyes.
the father sighs
father: we were ou-
grandfather interrupts
grandfather:-t talking
son:(confused) what about the rope?
grandfather: never mind that its time to get to work, you
know what they say."Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the
future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the
present, now hurry along.
7 A MONTAGE GROWING UP 7
a series of shots of this boy growing up from the age of 6
to 13.
8 INT.KITCHEN.MORNING 8
we see that the boy’s feet can now touch the ground and
pans up to reveal him sitting on the kitchen chair tending
to a broken clock whilst eating his breakfast
he turns the clock over to see the words "Yesterday’s the
past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s
why it’s called the present" inscribed into the bottom
left corner of the clock
it is at this point he realises that this clock was his
grandad’s
two droplets fall onto the clock
3.
the father sees his son crying then goes to reach for his
shoulder but then pulls back
9 INT.BEDROOM.NIGHT 9
the boy is sleeping comfortably in his bed
the door handle bends down
the door opens and the dim oil lit lamps light floods the
inside of the room
the boy begins to toss and turn uncomfortably
with a dismal face the father says
father: put your shoes on, we are going out.
10 EXT.COBBLESTONE.NIGHT 10
we are looking at the outside of the house in a
symmetrical fashion.
we then see the father and the son walk outside the house
as they are walking outside he looks to his father to see
him carrying a large spool of rope
the father accidentally drops the spool of rope
as he goes down to pick it up the son grabs the rope and
starts carrying it
the father gives a warm smile
11 EXT.WIDE OPEN FIELD.NIGHT 11
the father and the son are now onto of a large hill that
is almost touching the moon which seems unusually large
the father bends down and puts his hand on his sons
shoulder and takes the rope
father: its time for you to learn about the families
business.
the father then begins to tie the rope a into a lasso
we see the son looking up towards him in wonder and
curiosity as he is surrounded by bright stars.
the father then takes a step back and throws the hoop of
rope around the moon that hangs low
he then begins to climb the rope and then looks down at
his son extending his hand
the son looks up at his father and grabs his hand
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.
the father then flings his son around his shoulder giving
him a piggy back ride.
father: hold tight
they both reach the edge of the moon
the father takes out a key on a chain and inserts it into
a lock on the side of the moon and unhinges a door which
reveals the moon to be as one giant clock that controls
all of time.
they both walk into the moon
12 INT.MOON.NIGHT 12
father explains what the moon is and what their families
role in this grand scheme of time is.
the go into the clock and cleans the components and
replaces some parts.
after the finish they both shimmy down the rope together
the father gives him the key to the moon
