INT. PARENT KITCHEN EVENING

meal. Awkard edging of serving plates between the two in
more a less silence excluding the background noises of
cluttering and ruby eating and making the occasional
exxagerated noise whilst eating for attention as parents sit
looking disastisfied. The eye contact between the parents
differentiating when they look at ruby. Tension is told
through the expressions of the parents and the eery
atmosphere within this scene.
RUBY
Mmmmm (placing her cutlery loudly
on her plate)
Mum gives a strong angry look towards dad signalling for him
to say something
INT RUBY BATHROOM EVENING
Ruby is getting ready to go to bed and is brushing her
teeth. Through the crack of the door you see the mum on the
phone whilst folding washing. You can hear a muffled voice
and can faintly hear her spelling out words and shouting
down the phone. Ruby pauses brushing her teeth so that she
can try to hear what her mum is saying on the phone.
MUM
All this s-h-i-t about a-l-a-n is
driving me crazy....its not fair
Ruby finishes brushing her teeth and gets into bed and
stares at the ceiling with a concerned look on her face

longingly at the happy family.
6 INT.DAD LIVING ROOM.DAY.

reamining wrapping paper around her.
RUBY
Wheres my present from Santa?
DAD
Thats from me and Santa
Ruby looks puzzled but, picks up her new gift and begans to
distract herself with it. A phone then rings and and after a
few muffled words Dad brings the phone over to Ruby who
looks puzzled. She holds the phone to her ear smiling and
giggling and theres a sudden pause as a confused look
crosses her face.
RUBY
Well...i got a teddy from daddy and
santa (sounds like more of a
question than a statement as her
voice rises at the end)
Ruby ends the call abandoning the phone on the sofa, looks
up at her dad bewildered and moves off the sofa walking out
the room with her head hung low dragging the teddy along the
floor behind her.
INT DAD BATHROOM EVENING
Dad has just got out of the shower and the mirror and
windows are all steamed up. He lifts his hand up to wipe the
mirror so the he can see his reflection and just stares at

3.
INT RESTRAUNT EVENING
Mum and Dad sitting in restraunt, not saying a word to each

sound of knifes and scraping of glasses.
EXT PARK DAY
Ruby is being taught to ride her bike in the park by a man
who is shown to be a new fatherly figure as you see the mum
in the bakground laughing and smiling. Ruby gets in a strop
and begins to look uncomfortable and psychically appears
very defensive.
Wide shot of mums boyfriend trying to teach Ruby how to ride
a bike with Ruby getting frustrated and running off. Mum
runs to catch up with Ruby and crouches down to speak to
her. This is another wideshot as the low buzz of the parks
noises can be heard.
MS shot of Mum looking towards Richard with arm gestures
suggesting some sort of defeat or loss
INT MUM BATHROOM EVENING
Mum is taking off her make up, looking into the mirror in
the bathroom. She bends down to splash her face with water
in the sink, looks up allowing the water to drip down her
face for a few seconds in silence and then covers her face
with her hands.
INT RESTRAUNT EVENING
Mum and Dad out for dinner again. Montage sequence of Dad
ordering drink after drink looking emotionless and lost. As
it appears the mum is trying to interfere and talk. Their
conversation cannot be heard you just see the body language
and hostility between the two and contrasting festivitys are
taking place around them alongside festive music.
INT DAD HOUSE, GIRL BEDROOM EVENING
Ruby asleep in bed and is woken up by the noise of her dad
comjing through the front door being very agressive and
