ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
This was a group assignment which consists of 5 people in a group.
We were managed to complete this assignments with the efforts and co-operation from
every group members, Shze Hwa, Erica Chin, Hazel, Tan Yong Chien and Joel. We
were very happy and grateful that we completed our task on time. We were truly
appreciated and thankful to our lecturer, Mr Shankar for the guidance which helped us a
lot in producing the video, report and presentation slides.
Besides, we sincerely thank for Taylor’s Lakeside Campus for providing
classroom and facilities such as chair, table and projector to us for the video shooting.
We also appreciated to the students of Taylor’s Lakeside Campus which willing to share
the same classroom with us since there had no empty classroom for us. Special thanks
to our classmate to sacrifice their time for us when we needed people to film the video.
FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 4
INTRODUCTION
The students were required to carry out a social psychology conceptual video clip
and required to do a presentation in a group of 5 in this project. Students should apply
any five or more theories from the social psychology lessons into the video clip, report
and presentation.
First and foremost, we had decided the story line which included 5 social
psychology concepts after the discussion. The concepts that included are stereotype,
implicit attitude, social loafing, confirmation bias and ingratiation. After decided the
story line, we had to produce a video clip between 3 to 5 minutes by incorporating the
concepts learned in class. Besides, we also needed to prepare a report which provided
the explanation of the storyline, concepts and also the analysis and applications of the
concepts. Furthermore, we needed to prepare a presentation slide which like a
summary of our report for the presentation on the submission date.
Lastly, this assignment allows us to learn and apply the social psychology
concepts in real world experiences.

PRODUCES
1. Planning the socialexperiment
A few discussions were conducted before carrying out the social experiment which is
the five concepts we chose. During the first discussion, decision was made on
conducting a social experiment and the research was also done based on the types
of social experiment.
2. Confirming the concepts
The concepts that will be used in our conceptual video were conducted after the
discussion in the next meeting. The concepts we had chosen were stereotype,
attitude formation, confirmation bias, social loafing, and lastly, impression
management.
3. Planning socialexperiments
After figuring out the concepts that we will be used in our video, some of us came
out with some ideas on them. For the stereotype, we will be asked for an assignment
from our lecturer and 4 of us will be in a same group. We felt lucky and excited
because we all think that one of our members is smart, hardworking and capable
student although none of us had been work with him before. For attitude formation
which is explicit attitudes, since two of our members were stereotyping the
characteristic of him and they treated him well because of what they heard and see.
As for social loafing, the work will be divided to each group member. Some group
members who always absent on meeting were contributed less effort in this group
work when compared to others. Next is the confirmation bias, it will be like a student
FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 7
thinks that the member we mentioned earlier is lazy and not capable, then the
student decided to find the evidence to prove that his hypothesis about him is true.
Lastly falls to impression management which is ingratiation. In this concept, our
group will ingratiate ourselves to the lecturer to get a higher mark for the group
assignment that given previously. We will be satisfying by getting the highest mark in
the class on this project.
4. Dividing the roles
Roles were equally divided after the planning of the social experiments. We started
to decide the actors, actresses, and the cameraman. All of us were involved in the
shooting, Shze Hwa will be in charge of the filming process and Erica will be in
charge of the video edit.
5. Deciding the venue
On the forth group meeting, the venue of the social experiment was discussed and
in the end finalized with 1 venue but different places which is in the classroom E8.05
and D8.05.
6. Writing a report
The report was divided into parts to all of our members and it was based on the
format given by our lecturer.

Discussion
Summary of video clip
Scene 1 - Stereotype
Students in FNBE class were randomly divided into 4 people in a group for their final
ENBE project. Shze Hwa, Erica, Nigel and Joel were in a same group. Everyone except
Nigel thought that we were lucky enough because we were having Joel in our group, the
smart boy, but none of us had been work with him before.
Scene 2 - Attitude Formation: Explicit Attitudes
Erica and Shze Hwa were stereotyping the characteristic of Joel so that treated him
good because of what they heard. They agreed the suggestion of Joel because they
think that what Joel said was always right. However, Nigel did not agree on what Joel’s
ideas.
Scene 3 - Confirmation Bias
Nigel strongly believes that Joel is a lazy and not capable person and he had proven it
to his group members.
Scene 4 - Social Loafing
Erica and Shze Hwa had been absent for a few days. Joel was disappointed and felt
that Erica and Shze Hwa were contributed less effort in this group work when compared
to him and Nigel.
Scene 5 - Impression Management: Ingratiation
They planned to ingratiate themselves to the lecturer by flattering and brought some
drinks and food to the lecturer because of getting a higher mark. In the end, they got the
highest mark for this final project due to their previous actions on the lecturer.

Concepts
1. Stereotype
Stereotype is a well-known idea or image of a person or idea that is held by a number
of people. A wide held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of
person or thing. For example, we judge a person by looks, like, race, gender, sexuality,
and other superficial reasons.
2. Attitude Formation - ExplicitAttitude
Attitude formation can be divided into two groups. There are implicit attitudes and
explicit attitudes. Explicit attitudes are the attitudes that are at the conscious level and
are easy to self-report. For example, when we meet a new friend and the new friend is
wearing the shoe that we like. Then, we already decided to like this person and start a
friendly conversation. From an attitude perspective, we consciously noticed the shoe
that we like and determined that this was obviously someone with which we would get
along.
3. ConfirmationBias
Confirmation Bias is the reality is that all of us are susceptible to a tricky problem known
as a confirmation bias while we like to imagine that our belief are rational, logical, and
objective the fact is that our ideas are often based on paying attention to the information
that upholds our ideas and ignoring the information that challenges our existing beliefs.
It impact how people gather information but they also influence how people interpret
and recall information. For example : people who support or oppose a particular issue
will not only seek information that supports their beliefs they will also interpret news
stories in a way that upholds their existing ideas and remember things in a way that also
reinforces their attitudes.
4. SocialLoafing
Social Loafing is the phenomenon of people exerting less effort to achieve a goal when
they work in a group than when they work alone. For example, refers the concept that
people are prone to exert less effort on a task if they are in a group versus when they
work alone the idea of working in groups is typically seen as a way to group, but in
some groups there is a tendency on the part of participants to contribute less to the
group's goal than if they were doing the same task themselves.
FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 11
5. ImpressionManagement - Ingratiation
Impression Management is a goal directed conscious or subconscious process in which
people attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person object or
event. Erving Goffman - Canadian American Sociologist (July 11,1922 - Nov. 19,1984)
who helped to explain society through the everyday interaction of people you will learn
what he meant by saying that people are all actors playing a part and that our behaviour
is dictated by symbols and weather we are in public or private. Ingratiation happen
when we try to get others to like us with flattery, praise, and just generally trying to be
likeable. People will like others who treat them good and admire them. But, if the person
realizes that we being ingratiating to them, they might react with disappointment.
FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 12
Conclusion
Through this assignment, we understand more about the definition of the social
psychology concept and able to apply it to our real world experience. We had gone
through the process of analysis, reflection and evaluation of our conceptual analysis in
order to come out to the storyline of our video clip. Besides, we also learned how to film
a good quality video to attract the attention of the audience. There have a lot of things
need to be aware of when we film the video. For example, when the video start
recording, we need to wait for a few second before we start to act. Therefore, the video
will look more natural after edit. The video shooting process was smooth and we had
created a lot of memory together.

  • 4. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 4 INTRODUCTION The students were required to carry out a social psychology conceptual video clip and required to do a presentation in a group of 5 in this project. Students should apply any five or more theories from the social psychology lessons into the video clip, report and presentation. First and foremost, we had decided the story line which included 5 social psychology concepts after the discussion. The concepts that included are stereotype, implicit attitude, social loafing, confirmation bias and ingratiation. After decided the story line, we had to produce a video clip between 3 to 5 minutes by incorporating the concepts learned in class. Besides, we also needed to prepare a report which provided the explanation of the storyline, concepts and also the analysis and applications of the concepts. Furthermore, we needed to prepare a presentation slide which like a summary of our report for the presentation on the submission date. Lastly, this assignment allows us to learn and apply the social psychology concepts in real world experiences.

  • 6. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 6 PRODUCES 1. Planning the socialexperiment A few discussions were conducted before carrying out the social experiment which is the five concepts we chose. During the first discussion, decision was made on conducting a social experiment and the research was also done based on the types of social experiment. 2. Confirming the concepts The concepts that will be used in our conceptual video were conducted after the discussion in the next meeting. The concepts we had chosen were stereotype, attitude formation, confirmation bias, social loafing, and lastly, impression management. 3. Planning socialexperiments After figuring out the concepts that we will be used in our video, some of us came out with some ideas on them. For the stereotype, we will be asked for an assignment from our lecturer and 4 of us will be in a same group. We felt lucky and excited because we all think that one of our members is smart, hardworking and capable student although none of us had been work with him before. For attitude formation which is explicit attitudes, since two of our members were stereotyping the characteristic of him and they treated him well because of what they heard and see. As for social loafing, the work will be divided to each group member. Some group members who always absent on meeting were contributed less effort in this group work when compared to others. Next is the confirmation bias, it will be like a student
  • 7. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 7 thinks that the member we mentioned earlier is lazy and not capable, then the student decided to find the evidence to prove that his hypothesis about him is true. Lastly falls to impression management which is ingratiation. In this concept, our group will ingratiate ourselves to the lecturer to get a higher mark for the group assignment that given previously. We will be satisfying by getting the highest mark in the class on this project. 4. Dividing the roles Roles were equally divided after the planning of the social experiments. We started to decide the actors, actresses, and the cameraman. All of us were involved in the shooting, Shze Hwa will be in charge of the filming process and Erica will be in charge of the video edit. 5. Deciding the venue On the forth group meeting, the venue of the social experiment was discussed and in the end finalized with 1 venue but different places which is in the classroom E8.05 and D8.05. 6. Writing a report The report was divided into parts to all of our members and it was based on the format given by our lecturer.
  • 8. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 8 Discussion Summary of video clip Scene 1 - Stereotype Students in FNBE class were randomly divided into 4 people in a group for their final ENBE project. Shze Hwa, Erica, Nigel and Joel were in a same group. Everyone except Nigel thought that we were lucky enough because we were having Joel in our group, the smart boy, but none of us had been work with him before. Scene 2 - Attitude Formation: Explicit Attitudes Erica and Shze Hwa were stereotyping the characteristic of Joel so that treated him good because of what they heard. They agreed the suggestion of Joel because they think that what Joel said was always right. However, Nigel did not agree on what Joel’s ideas. Scene 3 - Confirmation Bias Nigel strongly believes that Joel is a lazy and not capable person and he had proven it to his group members. Scene 4 - Social Loafing Erica and Shze Hwa had been absent for a few days. Joel was disappointed and felt that Erica and Shze Hwa were contributed less effort in this group work when compared to him and Nigel. Scene 5 - Impression Management: Ingratiation They planned to ingratiate themselves to the lecturer by flattering and brought some drinks and food to the lecturer because of getting a higher mark. In the end, they got the highest mark for this final project due to their previous actions on the lecturer.

  • 10. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 10 Concepts 1. Stereotype Stereotype is a well-known idea or image of a person or idea that is held by a number of people. A wide held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. For example, we judge a person by looks, like, race, gender, sexuality, and other superficial reasons. 2. Attitude Formation - ExplicitAttitude Attitude formation can be divided into two groups. There are implicit attitudes and explicit attitudes. Explicit attitudes are the attitudes that are at the conscious level and are easy to self-report. For example, when we meet a new friend and the new friend is wearing the shoe that we like. Then, we already decided to like this person and start a friendly conversation. From an attitude perspective, we consciously noticed the shoe that we like and determined that this was obviously someone with which we would get along. 3. ConfirmationBias Confirmation Bias is the reality is that all of us are susceptible to a tricky problem known as a confirmation bias while we like to imagine that our belief are rational, logical, and objective the fact is that our ideas are often based on paying attention to the information that upholds our ideas and ignoring the information that challenges our existing beliefs. It impact how people gather information but they also influence how people interpret and recall information. For example : people who support or oppose a particular issue will not only seek information that supports their beliefs they will also interpret news stories in a way that upholds their existing ideas and remember things in a way that also reinforces their attitudes. 4. SocialLoafing Social Loafing is the phenomenon of people exerting less effort to achieve a goal when they work in a group than when they work alone. For example, refers the concept that people are prone to exert less effort on a task if they are in a group versus when they work alone the idea of working in groups is typically seen as a way to group, but in some groups there is a tendency on the part of participants to contribute less to the group's goal than if they were doing the same task themselves.
  • 11. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 11 5. ImpressionManagement - Ingratiation Impression Management is a goal directed conscious or subconscious process in which people attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person object or event. Erving Goffman - Canadian American Sociologist (July 11,1922 - Nov. 19,1984) who helped to explain society through the everyday interaction of people you will learn what he meant by saying that people are all actors playing a part and that our behaviour is dictated by symbols and weather we are in public or private. Ingratiation happen when we try to get others to like us with flattery, praise, and just generally trying to be likeable. People will like others who treat them good and admire them. But, if the person realizes that we being ingratiating to them, they might react with disappointment.
  • 12. FNBE 08/14 I SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 30203) I ASSIGNMENT 3 12 Conclusion Through this assignment, we understand more about the definition of the social psychology concept and able to apply it to our real world experience. We had gone through the process of analysis, reflection and evaluation of our conceptual analysis in order to come out to the storyline of our video clip. Besides, we also learned how to film a good quality video to attract the attention of the audience. There have a lot of things need to be aware of when we film the video. For example, when the video start recording, we need to wait for a few second before we start to act. Therefore, the video will look more natural after edit. The video shooting process was smooth and we had created a lot of memory together.
