ScanNet is an image processing software that scans documents, reads barcodes, indexes and merges documents, compresses files and uploads them to a server with database entries. It is currently a .NET software used by SoftAge to provide document services, but requires many Windows licenses. To reduce costs, SoftAge proposes redeveloping ScanNet in Java to make it cross-platform compatible with Linux, saving significant licensing fees and allowing the use of more affordable open source solutions.
