in today’s business environment entrepreneurs need comprehensive and up-to-date information about finance and funding. Whether financing an innovative start-up or growing a mature business, sources of funding are not always easy to find. While the most common source of funding is a loan from a bank, many start-up’s cannot provide the security needed to borrow in today’s tight credit environment and need to find alternative sources such as special loan programs, crowdfunding, grants and business investors.
Any business needing additional funding will usually find that they need to assemble any number of financing pieces almost as if they are assembling a puzzle. that is why we are launching this revised edition of sources of funding to assist business leaders and entrepreneurs in finding the funding sources available to both start-ups and mature businesses.
We’ve included private equity, state and local grants, incentives as well as conventional debt financing.
We hope this publication will help business owners and entrepreneurs like you continue to create jobs and drive our economy forward.
If you've been considering Merit, we have a special webinar for you. We've invited Buffy Lockette, Director of Public Relations at Jacksonville State University, to share her institution's experience evaluating, planning for, implementing, and getting amazing quick results with Merit. She goes in-depth on the challenges JSU faced, how they decided Merit was a fit, and what their initial experience has been like since joining as a customer in fall 2016.

In this deck, you will learn the significance of workplace discipline for organisational success. You’ll also learn
• Four (4) workplace discipline methods you should consider

The Influence of Marketing Strategy and Market Competition on Business Perfor...

1. February 6, 2012 Edition 30
February Success Story:
Kevin Kreger
Kevin Kreger, co-owner of Kallows, Inc., local attorney and SBDC client, is a business
plan contest winner for the third time!
Kevin and his partner, Gajanan Nagarsekar, Ph.D. student at UWM, started Kallows,
Inc. to address medical monitoring for people in remote areas without access to criti-
cal care facilities. It is a mobile health start-up developing applications and peripher-
als that work with “smart phones” to monitor cardiac fitness and health.
Kevin and Gajanan entered the UWM School of Business’ business plan contest in
hopes of getting seed money to fund continuing development. As part of the contest
process, Kevin attended several SBDC workshops. He was very impressed with the
counselors and their business knowledge and decided to become a client.
During the next several months, the SBDC assisted Kevin with market research, com-
petitive analysis and online product benefits research.
When the pair completed their business plan they entered it in the UWM Business
Plan Contest, BizStarts Milwaukee Business Plan Contest and the 2011 Wisconsin
Governor’s Business Plan Contest. They were winners all around – first place in the
UWM and BizStarts contests and second place in the Governor’s contest, providing
them welcomed funding and visibility.
Kallows continues to work with the SBDC to refine the plan. They are also working
with the WEN Southwest Regional Director to pursue other funding avenues. Their
planned markets are both domestic and international, one initial market being India
where they both have close ties, as is represented by their website logo – an Indian
youth whose face is painted in the colors of the Indian flag, representing the future.
As Kevin puts it, “The SBDC has been such a tremendous partner, mentor and edu-
cator, helping us every step of the way. They have connected us to invaluable sup-
port resources that we would not have found on our own. The SBDC is a key element
to our continued success.”
