Tigers are on the verge of extinction, with populations declining by 95% since the early 20th century. Poaching for skins and bones to use in traditional Chinese medicine has devastated wild tiger populations, with the latest predictions stating tigers could be extinct in the wild by 2015. Although trade bans have reduced the market for skins, tigers are still poached and bred on farms in China to supply bones and other parts for traditional Chinese medicine. Urgent action is needed to support conservation efforts, environmental education, and sustainable development to prevent tigers from vanishing forever.
