Before ASE internships begin, mentors participate in an orientation with the ASE team. Orientation is a chance for you to learn more about the upcoming experiences with the ASE Program this summer. Orientation is designed to facilitate a successful internship experience for all.

It will also address administrator concerns about the lack of collaboration between teachers of different levels and with higher education. Presenters will provide workshops on topics like instructional technology, literacy in STEM, and problem-based learning. Teachers must complete a flight report after the workshop applying what they learned. The conference supports ongoing professional development needs in the district.

Presented at Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) conference on May 12, 2014. Managing Corporate Relationships was based on corporate, government, nonprofit, public school district and Aurora University in partnership with the John C. Dunham STEM Partnership School.
Showcase AP Research to Students
The AP Capstone program consists of two courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, that equip students with research, collaboration, and communication skills. AP Seminar focuses on critical thinking, argumentation, and inquiry skills. Students complete presentations and essays individually and in teams. AP Research allows students to design and conduct a year-long research project on a topic of their choice. It builds on the skills from AP Seminar and emphasizes skills like developing research questions and synthesizing information. Both courses aim to prepare students for the rigors of college and help them enter academic conversations.

Showcase AP Research to Students
The AP Capstone program consists of two courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, that equip students with research, collaboration, and communication skills. AP Seminar focuses on critical thinking, argumentation, and inquiry skills. Students complete presentations and essays individually and in teams. AP Research allows students to design and conduct a year-long research project on a topic of their choice. It builds on the skills from AP Seminar and emphasizes skills like developing research questions and synthesizing information. Both courses aim to prepare students for the rigors of college and help them enter academic conversations.

Indigenous Knowledges in STEM Pathways

Skills Development Through Authentic Assessment
"Authentic assessment" is relevant to real world outcomes and engaging for students. Much of the treadmill activity of conventional assessment (essays and exams) has little to do with what goes on in the workplace. Faced with the task of developing a "research skills" module for 300 biological sciences students, I attempted to apply the principles of authentic assessment. The practical problems in achieving this with a large number of students involve the staffing demands of this approach, and there are problems with applying performance-based outcomes to large groups of students. Team-based learning enhances student engagement and represents a shift from a teacher-based strategy to a student-centred approach.

This seminar will present information about:
• efforts to make OED and the Educators Academy the ‘go-to’ place for faculty seeking help with their teaching and learning needs;
• the Teaching Scholars program, a contributor to faculty development in the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL);
• a fall-semester series of teaching workshops designed to enhance pedagogical skills and teaching outcomes;
• the Academy’s annual education grant, an opportunity for UAMS teaching faculty to engage in the SoTL;
• one-on-one consulting on teaching;
• efforts to build a cadre of faculty who contribute to the viability of our teaching feedback program;
• administration of the Chancellor’s Teaching Award process.
Towards Quality Research and Visibility

I'm a Scientist, Get Me Out of Here! is two weeks of online madness where students ask scientists questions and get to vote. The scientists are evicted one by one until there is a winner who receives prize money of $1,000 to spend on outreach.
The program has been running in the UK for four years and in Australia for two. This presentation at CONASTA 61 explains the program and some of the insights from teacher and scientist evaluations.

This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
