Satin Weave
Introduction
Satin weave, although more complicated, is a flexible type of
weave than the plain weave. It is called ‘satin’ when filament fibers
such as silk or nylon are used and is called ‘sateen’ when short-
staple yarns like cotton is used to make it.
The satin weave is lustrous with a smooth surface and it drapes in
an excellent manner.
THE EXAMPLES of satin weave fabrics are brocade, brocatelle,
crepe-satin, peau de soie, velvet satin etc.
Satin fabrics
SATIN FABRIC SIMULATION
1. 3rd basic weave
2. Minimum repeat 4×4
3. Weave contains long floats
4. More lustrous appearance.
5. Filaments yarns are mainly used.
6. Low twisted yarns are used.
7. Loose structure due to less interlacing point
8. High thread density
9. Move numbers are required to produce these weaves.
10. Not suitable for repeated wearing.
11. Formula number may be (A >=3)
12. Warp satin or satin A/1
13. Weft satin or sateen 1/A
Characteristics of Satin Weave:

1. Regular satin or sateen: Has move numbers.
2. Irregular satin or sateen: Has no move numbers.
