To get an insight into the radiological features of potentially reusable by-products can be reused in building materials industry a review of the reported scientific data is necessary. This study is based on the continuously growing database of the By-BM (H2020-MSCA-IF-2015) project (By-products for Building Materials). Currently, the By-BM database contains individual data of about 431 by-products and 1095 building and raw materials. It was found that in case of the construction materials the natural isotope content varied widely (Ra-226: <dl-27851 /><dl-906 /><dl-17922 /><dl-1350 /><DL-3001 Bq/kg). The average Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 content of reported by-products were 2.52, 2.35 and 0.39 times higher than the building materials respectively. The gamma exposure of bulk building products was calculated according to IAEA Specific Safety Guide No. SSG-32 and European Commission Radiation Protection 112 based I-index (EU BSS). It was found that in most cases the I-index without density consideration provides a significant overestimation in excess effective dose.

Zatkoff Seals & Packings, the largest independent distributor of seals in North America, commissioned an independent comparative product life cycle emission analysis. This analysis compares the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by the Synthetic Fiber and Nitrile Butadiene (SFNB) gasket, which is manufactured with the calendering process, to the emissions of the Rubber-Edged Composite (REC) gasket, which is manufactured with the Beater-Addition process.
By comparing the manufacturing process of the REC gasket and the SFNB gasket, it is discovered that the production process matters a great deal for the environment. This study concludes that the SFNB gasket offers significant environmental benefits. The SFNB gasket offers up to 30% emission reductions, including energy savings around water and forestry, when compared to the REC gasket.

Significant improvements in terms of bandwidth of reflectarray antennas have been achieved by introduction of innovative paper substrate dielectric materials. Three differently custom composed organic dielectric substrates have been characterized for dielectric properties using a broadband technique based on open ended coax cable method. The substrates show low dielectric permittivities of 1.81, 1.63 and 1.84 along with a loss tangent of 0.053, 0.047 and 0.057. Validation of using the proposed substrates for reflectarray antenna was done by modelling and fabricating reflectarray unit elements on the three substrates. Scattering parameter analysis of unit reflectarray elements show encouraging results with a broadband frequency response of 340 MHz at a phase gradient of 0.14º/MHz. Thus the proposed substrate could serve exceptionally to address the narrow bandwidth problem in reflectarray antennas.

To highlight the research and achievements of Australian researchers, the Global CCS Institute together with ANLEC R&D will hold a series of webinars throughout 2017. Each webinar will highlight a specific ANLEC R&D research project and the relevant report found on the Institute’s website. This is the seventh webinar of the series and presented the results of a test program on the retrofitted Callide A power plant in Central Queensland.
The behaviour of trace metals and the related characteristics of the formation of fine particles may have important implications for process options, gas cleaning, environmental risk and resultant cost in oxy-fuel combustion. Environmental and operational risk will be determined by a range of inter-related factors including:
The concentrations of trace metals in the gas produced from the overall process;
Capture efficiencies of the trace species in the various air pollution control devices used in the process; including gas and particulate control devices, and specialised systems for the removal of specific species such as mercury;
Gas quality required to avoid operational issues such as corrosion, and to enable sequestration in a variety of storage media without creating unacceptable environmental risks; the required quality for CO2 transport will be defined by (future and awaited) regulation but may be at the standards currently required of food or beverage grade CO2; and
Speciation of some trace elements
Macquarie University was engaged by the Australian National Low Emissions Coal Research and Development Ltd (ANLEC R&D) to investigate the behaviour of trace elements during oxy-firing and CO2 capture and processing in a test program on the retrofitted Callide A power plant, with capability for both oxy and air-firing. Gaseous and particulate sampling was undertaken in the process exhaust gas stream after fabric filtration at the stack and at various stages of the CO2 compression and purification process. These measurements have provided detailed information on trace components of oxy-fired combustion gases and comparative measurements under air fired conditions. The field trials were supported by laboratory work where combustion took place in a drop tube furnace and modelling of mercury partitioning using the iPOG model.
The results obtained suggest that oxy-firing does not pose significantly higher environmental or operational risks than conventional air-firing. The levels of trace metals in the “purified” CO2 gas stream should not pose operational issues within the CO2 Processing Unit (CPU).

Radioactivity of Some Soil Samples from Kuba, Butura Ward, Bokkos Local Gover...ijtsrd
The activity concentration of naturally occurring radionuclide 40K, 226Ra and 232Th were measured in some soil samples from Kuba village, Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, Nigeria using gamma ray spectroscopy. The soil activity ranges from 246.40± 11.32, 129.40± 6.44 and 57.92± 22 Bq.kg 1 respectively 116.70± 9.24 to 397.2± 13.32Bq.Kg 1 for 40K, 35.87± 1.02 to 88.09±1.14 Bq.kg 1 for 226Ra, and 103.60± 5.23 to 162.10± 7.11 .Kg 1 for 232Th with mean values of 246.40±11.32, 57.92±1.22 and 246.40±11.32 Bq.kg 1 respectively. The concentrations of these radionuclides are compared with the world average. The radium equivalent activity calculated from the analyzed soil samples ranges from 200.2536 to 291.9765 Bq.Kg 1 with the mean value of 261.0386 Bq.Kg 1. The mean values 40K and Radium Equivalent are low compare to the world average but the mean values for, 226Ra and 232Th are above the permissible value, therefore pose a significant threat to inhabitants or workers dealing with transportation of soil and there is no good safety index for all building made from these materials and the inhabitants due to high activity concentration of 232Th and 226Ra. One Pot Synthesis, Characterization of Zn GO Nanocomposite for the Electroche...ijtsrd
A facile one pot efficient synthetic approach has been adopted to prepare Zn GO nanocomposite material from the synthesized GO. The X ray diffraction XRD analysis revealed the formation of Zn GO structure from the zinc chloride precursor during the synthesis. The surface characteristics and elemental composition of the nanocomposites have been studied by means of scanning electron microscopy SEM , energy dispersive spectroscopy EDS . The characterization of the Zn GO composites suggested that the metal is uniformly dispersed in the graphene matrix and gives evidence indicates that the flake like nanosheets are GO, which are formed and interface and we can see good compatibility between the graphite oxide and the zinc matrix. Electrochemical decoloration of an aqueous solution of a textile dye Acid Red 10B was investigated under different experimental conditions by using carbon electrodes. Our findings revealed that the electrodes evidenced great dye decoloration abilities to treat solutions containing this dye, in the presence of the synthesized nanocomposite. The influence of the synthesized nanocomposite was remarkable in the electrochemical dye decoloration process and ~100 color removal was found by the addition of 0.004g nano composite per 250 mL of the dye solution. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an important management tool for ensuring optimal use of natural resources for sustainable development. A beginning in this direction was made in our country with the impact assessment of river valley projects in 1978-79 and the scope has subsequently been enhanced to cover other developmental sectors such as industries, thermal power projects, mining schemes etc. To facilitate collection of environmental data and preparation of management plans, guidelines have been evolved and circulated to the concerned Central and State Government Departments. EIA has now been made mandatory under the Environmental (Protection Act, 1986 for 29 categories of developmental activities involving investments of Rs. 50 crores and above. In present study we have studied environmental aspects of kota super thermal power on Kota city.The KSTPS in Rajasthan was commissioned in 1983 and presently operating at 1045MW capacity,The Kota Super Thermal Power Station came in five stages and a total of 7 units have been commissioned.KSTPS is situated at the left bank of “Chambal River” in Rajasthan principal industrial city Kota.The present total area covered under KSTPS is 688 ha.The power generation system comprises mainly boiler, turbine, generator and transformers with accessories all arranged to operate as complementary parts of a common monolithic set.The allowable limits for discharge of water as specified in Schedule 4 of Environmental Protection Act And Amendment 1983 isAmmonical Nitrogen 50,Arsenic-0.2,Biochemical oxygen demand-30,Cadmium -2, Chemical oxygen demand -250, Chromium hexavalent-0.1, Chromium total-2, Copper-3,Cyanide-0.1,Fluoride-2,PH-5.5-9.0Phenols-1,Dissolve Phosphate -5,Residual Chloride 1,Sulphide 2,Total Suspended Solid 100,Zinc 5.0 . Co3O4|α-Al2O3|cordierite structured catalysts were developed, optimizing washcoating procedure, active phase loading, and its deposition method via impregnation and solution combustion synthesis (SCS). The catalysts were thoroughly characterized by XRD, μRS, SEM/EDS, and BET, revealing that the catalyst layer deposited over cordierite carrier, consists of a washcoated micrometric α-Al2O3 (0.1–0.3 µm grains), where spinel nanocrystals (30–50 nm) were uniformly dispersed. It was found out that the SCS method to synthesize and finely disperse spinel nanoparticles results in significant better catalytic performance in low-temperature N2O decomposition than the classic impregnation method. The effectiveness factor evaluated, based on catalyst morphological features and deN2O catalytic results, was found to be ≈1. The determined mass transfer coefficients and type of the catalyst working regime (purely kinetic in the whole temperature range) provide the useful platform for rational design of a real deN2O catalyst.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

6. DATAMINING FOR BY-BM DATABASE
Data was looking for with following conditions:
• Individually reported sample information about the Ra-226, Th-232
and K-40 were obtained by gamma spectrometry
• Average results were used only if the investigated material
originated from same site, e.g. quarries, mines, brand, type of BM
• In several cases the U-238 activity concentration values were
published
• To avoid the disequilibrium in the decay chain the data was
imported into the database only if the results were obtained from
the Rn-222 progenies (Bi-214, Pb-214)

• In the EU to control the gamma-exposure originated from BMs, the I-
index is recommended for the member states to screen them
• Identified types of BM, the activity concentrations of primordial
radionuclides Ra-226, Th-232 (or its decay product Ra-228) and K-40
shall be determined

• The I-index value of 1.0 can be used as a conservative screening tool for identifying materials
that during their use would cause doses exceeding the reference level (1 mSv/y excess in
addition to outdoor exposure) in the case of bulk amount inbuilt
• For application of the index to such constituents, in particular residues from industries
processing NORM recycled into BMs, an appropriate partitioning factor needs to be applied
• The calculation of dose needs to take into account other factors such as density, thickness of
the material and type of BMs (bulk or superficial)

9. IAEA SSG32 DOSE ASSESSEMENT
METHOD
• Risica et al. have carried out a sensitivity
analysis concerning the effects of changes in
the parameters for the room on the dose in
the room and found the following results:
• The absorbed dose rate in air was calculated as a function of room dimensions for a
fixed height of 2.8 m and various widths and lengths of the room ranging from 2 m to 10
m were used, in both rectangular and square shapes
• The variation in the dose rate in air in relation to the position in the room was found to
be limited to approximately 10% at a distance of up to 1 m from the walls.
• The maximum variation in the dose rate obtained was 6% from the calculation for a
room with a volume of 60 m3

• The gamma dose rate is calculated in the middle of
the standard sized room shown in Figure
• The effects of doors and windows will lower the dose
rate by only a minor amount and so for simplicity doors
and windows are not considered in the calculation
• In many cases, BMs themselves provide significant
shielding against gamma radiation from the soil in the
terrestrial background
• In the case of massive concrete structures, the
shielding is almost complete

isotope content varied widely (Ra-
226: <DL-27851 Bq/kg; Th-232: <DL-
906 Bq/kg, K-40: <DL-17922 Bq/kg)
• More so than the BPs (Ra-226: 7-
3152 Bq/kg; Th-232: <DL-1350
Bq/kg, K-40: <DL-3001 Bq/kg).
• But the mean value of Ra-226, Th-
232 and K-40 content of reported
by-products were 2.52, 2.35 and
0.39 times higher in case of the BPs
than the BMs, respectively
19. SUMMARY
• 48 countries 23 building materials (1095); 7 type of by-products (431)
• The mean value of Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 content of reported by-
products were 2.52, 2.35 and 0.39 times higher in case of the BPs than
the BMs, respectively
• Lot of data available but usually the range is reported
• Missing information from developed countries
• Visualization of data is practical tool for demonstration of data
• To design BMs the I-index is not suitable
• The density consideration is indispensable for dose assesment
• In the case of low density range (<800 kg/m3) 60 % overestimation is
expectable
