• 13 mandatory units plus
• Core units applicable to each screening programme: AAA/DES/NBH
• Programme specific pathway units for AAA:
The above is supported by the following resources for AAA:
• E learning/on line tests
• For AAA specific: Portfolio of experience document (log book). A resource
to record training scans & evidence clinical assessments/competency
levels.

What to do next?
• Programme manager/coordinator to select and contact (via email)
the chosen approved centre.
• Approved centre will email an application form for completion.
• Complete and sign off application and return to approved centre.
• Approved centre will invoice the local programme directly for the
course fee. (Currently this can be claimed back from PHE).
• Pay invoice promptly! Once paid the awarding centre will email
the trainee Screening Technician his/hers username and password
enabling them to access the ePortfolio system and get started.
Our chosen approved centre
provided:
• A welcome pack and a welcome induction telephone call from the
qualifications coordinator.
• Dedicated support and guidance for learners from the
qualifications coordinator.
• A dedicated administrator to help with any administrative queries.
• Programme coordinator/manager can request access to the
ePortfolio to enable check on progress.
• Remember the qualification is delivered and assessed completely
in the workplace.
Planning
• The trainee and assessor should meet to plan how the
learner will achieve the qualification.
• Depending on the learners level of experience and
availability they should aim to complete one unit every 6-8
weeks.
• They will need to decide and agree which types of evidence
should be collected and submitted for each of the learning
outcomes within the unit.
• Gathered evidence should be uploaded to the ePortfolio
system.
• Responsibility of the trainee to collect/produce and upload
the evidence within the target dates set.
Teething problems experienced by Norfolk
& Waveney AAA Programme
• Currently no specific AAA work book to assist the learner
(this is work in progress).
• Our chosen approved centre’s ePortfolio can be tricky to
navigate/takes practice to get use to the layout and
structure of the system.
• Location of AAA office in relation to vascular lab/CST
• Self directed learning (plan into training plan) access to the
assessor (plan into clinics)
• Assessors are sent a guide book “The best assessors guide”.
It is a generic book not specific to screening.

New Qualification Structure • Diploma for Health Screeners • 13 mandatory units plus • Core units applicable to each screening programme: AAA/DES/NBH • Programme specific pathway units for AAA: The above is supported by the following resources for AAA: • E learning/on line tests • For AAA specific: Portfolio of experience document (log book). A resource to record training scans & evidence clinical assessments/competency levels.   • 3. What to do next? • Programme manager/coordinator to select and contact (via email) the chosen approved centre. • Approved centre will email an application form for completion. • Complete and sign off application and return to approved centre. • Approved centre will invoice the local programme directly for the course fee. (Currently this can be claimed back from PHE). • Pay invoice promptly! Once paid the awarding centre will email the trainee Screening Technician his/hers username and password enabling them to access the ePortfolio system and get started.
  • 4. Our chosen approved centre provided: • A welcome pack and a welcome induction telephone call from the qualifications coordinator. • Dedicated support and guidance for learners from the qualifications coordinator. • A dedicated administrator to help with any administrative queries. • Programme coordinator/manager can request access to the ePortfolio to enable check on progress. • Remember the qualification is delivered and assessed completely in the workplace.
  • 5. Planning • The trainee and assessor should meet to plan how the learner will achieve the qualification. • Depending on the learners level of experience and availability they should aim to complete one unit every 6-8 weeks. • They will need to decide and agree which types of evidence should be collected and submitted for each of the learning outcomes within the unit. • Gathered evidence should be uploaded to the ePortfolio system. • Responsibility of the trainee to collect/produce and upload the evidence within the target dates set.
  • 6. Teething problems experienced by Norfolk & Waveney AAA Programme • Currently no specific AAA work book to assist the learner (this is work in progress). • Our chosen approved centre’s ePortfolio can be tricky to navigate/takes practice to get use to the layout and structure of the system. • Location of AAA office in relation to vascular lab/CST • Self directed learning (plan into training plan) access to the assessor (plan into clinics) • Assessors are sent a guide book “The best assessors guide”. It is a generic book not specific to screening. • Funding Process
