Data Modeling Best Practices - Business & Technical ApproachesDATAVERSITY
Data Modeling is hotter than ever, according to a number of recent surveys. Part of the appeal of data models lies in their ability to translate complex data concepts in an intuitive, visual way to both business and technical stakeholders. This webinar provides real-world best practices in using Data Modeling for both business and technical teams.
The Importance of Master Data ManagementDATAVERSITY
Despite its immaterial nature, data has a tendency to pile up as time goes on, and can quickly be rendered unusable or obsolete without careful maintenance and streamlining of processes for its management. This presentation will provide you with an understanding of reference and Master Data Management (MDM), one such method for keeping mass amounts of business data organized and functional towards achieving business goals.
MDM’s guiding principles include the establishment and implementation of authoritative data sources and effective means of delivering data to various business processes, as well as increases to the quality of information used in organizational analytical functions (such as BI). To that end, attendees of this webinar will learn how to:
Structure their Data Management processes around these principles
Incorporate Data Quality engineering into the planning of reference and MDM
Understand why MDM is so critical to their organization’s overall data strategy
Discuss foundational MDM concepts based on “The DAMA Guide to the Data Management Body of Knowledge” (DAMA DMBOK)
Glossaries, Dictionaries, and Catalogs Result in Data GovernanceDATAVERSITY
Data catalogs, business glossaries, and data dictionaries house metadata that is important to your organization’s governance of data. People in your organization need to be engaged in leveraging the tools, understanding the data that is available, who is responsible for the data, and knowing how to get their hands on the data to perform their job function. The metadata will not govern itself.
Join Bob Seiner for the webinar where he will discuss how glossaries, dictionaries, and catalogs can result in effective Data Governance. People must have confidence in the metadata associated with the data that you need them to trust. Therefore, the metadata in your data catalog, business glossary, and data dictionary must result in governed data. Learn how glossaries, dictionaries, and catalogs can result in Data Governance in this webinar.
Bob will discuss the following subjects in this webinar:
- Successful Data Governance relies on value from very important tools
- What it means to govern your data catalog, business glossary, and data dictionary
- Why governing the metadata in these tools is important
- The roles necessary to govern these tools
- Governance expected from metadata in catalogs, glossaries, and dictionaries

LDM Slides: Conceptual Data Models - How to Get the Attention of Business Use...DATAVERSITY
Achieving a ‘single version of the truth’ is critical to any MDM, DW, or data integration initiative. But have you ever tried to get people to agree on a single definition of “customer”? Or to get Sales, Marketing, and IT to agree on a target audience?
This webinar will discuss how a conceptual data model can be used as a powerful communication tool for data-intensive initiatives. It will cover how to build a high-level data model, how the core concepts in a data model can have significant business impact on an organization, and will provide some easy-to-use templates and guidelines for a step-by-step approach to implementing a conceptual data model in your organization.
Enterprise Architecture vs. Data ArchitectureDATAVERSITY
Enterprise Architecture (EA) provides a visual blueprint of the organization, and shows key interrelationships between data, process, applications, and more. By abstracting these assets in a graphical view, it’s possible to see key interrelationships, particularly as they relate to data and its business impact across the organization. Join us for a discussion on how data architecture is a key component of an overall enterprise architecture for enhanced business value and success.
This introduction to data governance presentation covers the inter-related DM foundational disciplines (Data Integration / DWH, Business Intelligence and Data Governance). Some of the pitfalls and success factors for data governance.
• IM Foundational Disciplines
• Cross-functional Workflow Exchange
• Key Objectives of the Data Governance Framework
• Components of a Data Governance Framework
• Key Roles in Data Governance
• Data Governance Committee (DGC)
• 4 Data Governance Policy Areas
• 3 Challenges to Implementing Data Governance
• Data Governance Success Factors
This framework helps organizations align Data Strategy with Business Strategy to prioritize goals around the most pressing operational needs. It introduces Data Management & Data Ability Maturity Matrix to visualize the core path of business digital transformation, which is easy to understand and follow. And it provides the standard template for implementation, which can share the flexibility to engage applications of different industries.
Activate Data Governance Using the Data CatalogDATAVERSITY
Data Governance programs depend on the activation of data stewards that are held formally accountable for how they manage data. The data catalog is a critical tool to enable your stewards to contribute and interact with an inventory of metadata about the data definition, production, and usage. This interaction is active Data Governance in the truest sense of the word.
In this RWDG webinar, Bob Seiner will share tips and techniques focused on activating your data stewards through a data catalog. Data Governance programs that involve stewards in daily activities are more likely to demonstrate value from their data-intensive investments.
Bob will address the following in this webinar:
- A comparison of active and passive Data Governance
- What it means to have an active Data Governance program
- How a data catalog tool can be used to activate data stewards
- The role a data catalog plays in Data Governance
- The metadata in the data catalog will not govern itself
Describes what Enterprise Data Architecture in a Software Development Organization should cover and does that by listing over 200 data architecture related deliverables an Enterprise Data Architect should remember to evangelize.
Metadata management is critical for organizations looking to understand the context, definition and lineage of key data assets. Data models play a key role in metadata management, as many of the key structural and business definitions are stored within the models themselves. Can data models replace traditional metadata solutions? Or should they integrate with larger metadata management tools & initiatives?
Join this webinar to discuss opportunities and challenges around:
How data modeling fits within a larger metadata management landscape
When can data modeling provide “just enough” metadata management
Key data modeling artifacts for metadata
Organization, Roles & Implementation Considerations
Data Governance Roles as the Backbone of Your ProgramDATAVERSITY
The method you follow to form your Data Governance roles and responsibilities will impact the success of your program. There are industry-standard roles that require adjustment to fit the culture of your organization when getting started, gaining acceptance, and demonstrating sustained value. Roles are the backbone of a productive Data Governance program.
Bob Seiner will share his updated operating model of roles and responsibilities in this topical RWDG webinar. The model Bob uses is meant to overlay your present organizational structure rather than requiring you to try and plug your organization into someone else’s model. This webinar will provide everything you need to know about Data Governance roles.
Bob will address the following in this webinar:
• An operating model of Data Governance roles and responsibilities
• How to customize the model to mimic your existing structure
• The meaning behind the oft-used “roles pyramid”
• Detailed responsibilities at each level of the organization
• Using the model to influence Data Governance acceptance
Data modeling continues to be a tried-and-true method of managing critical data aspects from both the business and technical perspective. Like any tool or methodology, there is a “right tool for the right job”, and specific model types exist for both business and technical users across operational, reporting, analytic, and other use cases. This webinar will provide an overview of the various data modeling techniques available, and how to use each for maximum value to the organization.
A successful data governance capability requires a strategy to align regulatory drivers and technology enhancement initiatives with business needs and objectives, taking into account the organizational, technological and cultural changes that will need to take place.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
