I wanted to see how it was like to teach, so I signed up for the UTeach program. My partner and I were assigned to 5th Grade Science with the lesson plan, BSCS Science Tracks: Investigating the Changing Earth.
2. Safety
- Do not throw the sand
- Do not swing the timers around (if strings are
present)
- Remember to close the lids on the
sandblasters
- Be careful to not inhale the sand
3. Directions
Assigned Tasks-
Materials Manageris in charge of pouring the
sand through-out the experiment.
The next three team members will each have
their own straw.
-Your task will be blowing the sand.
The fifth memberwill be the time keeper
(stopwatch). If you do no t have a fifth member,
the Materials Managerwill be the time keeper.
4. 1. Pour four scoops of sand in the
middle of the sandblaster

5. 2. Record your “before”(Part A)
picture then close the lid

6. 4. For 30 seconds, blo w g e ntly
towards the sand.
3. The first person to the right of the Materials
Manager will insert their straw into the hole of the
sandblaster. ( Time Keeper! Remember to keep track of
time.)
7. 5. After 30 seconds, remove the lid
and record your observations in
Part B.
8. 6. Once you’re done recording,
pour the sand back into the cup.
Try to not spill!
9. 7. Pour four new scoops of sand
into the middle. Close lid.
10. 8. Blow harder (but not too hard!)
for 30 seconds.
This time, the next team member will use their
new straw to blow harder.
11. 9. After 30 seconds, remove the lid
and record your observations in
Part C.

Without taking the sand out from Part C, dump
ALL of the sand from the cup into the middle.
Close lid.
Use a new straw ( next team member ).
This time, blow as hard as you can!! For 30
seconds.
Record in Part D.
