“METHCANLEADTO DEATH”
Methamphetamine is an illegal synthetic man made drug, which is inexpensive & can be
produced easily, just about anywhere, using common household ingredients like cold pills,
rubbing alcohol, drain cleaner, iodine, etc. with equipment such as coffee filters, hotplates, and
Pyrex dishes. Meth can be in different colors and in crystal or powder form. Crystal Meth
appears to be more widely used by young adults in the U.S than previously thought. A study
released today shows that nearly 3% of U.S young adults say they have used crystal meth in the
previous year; the study was conducted in 2001-2002.
High-risk sexual behaviors are also linked to meth use,
which may increase sexually transmitted diseases
including HIV and Hepatitis.
Drug Facts
 The effectsof Crystal Meth use can
have an impact on Brain Functions,
causing damage to brain cells. This
damage can lead to short-term
memory loss and seizures.
 During WorldWar II,
amphetamine was widely used to
keep the fighting men going; both
dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine)
and methamphetamine
(Methedrine) became readily
available.
Drug Facts
 Chronic methamphetamine abuse
significantly changes how the
brain functions, withimaging
studies showing alterations in the
area of the brain that is associated
with motor skills and verbal
learning. Studies have also
revealed severe structural and
functional changes in areas of the
brain associated withemotion and
memory, whichexplains many of
the emotional and cognitive
problems observed in chronic
methamphetamine abusers.
