This document provides a lesson plan for a high beginner English class focusing on hotels. The lesson has three main parts: a warm up activity where students review hotel vocabulary by asking classmates about word meanings; a discussion where students research and present on unique hotels they found online; and a group poster project where students design their own imaginary concept hotel targeting a specific audience. The teacher outlines the goals, timeline, materials, and solutions to potential challenges for each section to guide student learning and engagement.

Action points from previous teaching:
 I will provide students with the chance of working in groups and create an original
product.
Skills: reading, writing and speaking
Main objectives:
 Students will get information about a hotel using a web site and choose their favorite
hotel explaining 2 reasons for their choice.
 Students will present hotel facilities from a list given using a poster to describe a new
concept hotel.
Assumptions:
 I expect my students to have studied the vocabulary related to hotel facilities that we
discussed in the previous classes.
Challenges:
 We have discussed how to ignore unimportant words when reading for getting the
main idea in a text. Some students might not feel comfortable doing this so they might
ask lots of questions about the vocabulary in the hotel descriptions.
Solutions:
 Set a limit number of vocabulary questions per reading. E.g. Students are allowed to
ask for 3 words max.
Presentation – warm up (20 minutes)
As students walk into the classroom give each students a piece of paper with the name of one
of the facilities we studied last class. (mini bar, gym, room service, etc)
Have students walk around asking their partners whether or not they remember the meaning
of the words.
As a transition tell students we are to get to know some very special hotels in the world. Take
students to the multimedia room.
Practice: Discussion based on a reading (50 minutes)
Once in the multimedia room tell students to follow these steps:

b. Check the entry named: The craziest hotels I’ve ever seen! And follow the instructions:

2. Go over the descriptions of the crazy hotels in there. Choose one you would like

2. to know more about it.
3. Google the name of the hotel and find out as much information as you can. Ask
yourself questions like; Where is it? Who built it? How much is a night there? What
are the facilities and services?
4. Once you have got the information, share it with a classmate. See if you can
decide which hotel you'd rather visit.
Once students have discussed their choices go back to the classroom and check with the whole
what hotel s they have chosen to visit. Encourage students to give reasons for their choices
and others to agree or disagree with the choices.
Production: Poster display (40 minutes)
As a transition tell students they are going to have the chance to create their own hotels. Tell
them they are to select a target audience for their hotel and create a poster that includes:
Name of the hotel
Target audience (teenagers, elderly, business people, families, couples, etc)
Facilities
Kind of rooms
Average price per night
Have students work in groups of 4 and decide on the information that their poster will include.
Provide markers and paper for students to create their posters.
Monitor students are carrying out the activity in English and help with vocabulary if needed.
To finish have students paste posters around the room and have other groups to visit the
posters and ask questions about the hotels.
Reserved activity:
Print descriptions of hotels and have them do a jigsaw reading in case the multimedia
lab is not working.

Paper, markers, masking tape and printouts of hotel descriptions (plan B)
