Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War
One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the
use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required
to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of
the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less
rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and
poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been
transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military
command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war ,
blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain
advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive
education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what
side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true
equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century. Subtle rules and
regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English and Boers prevented blacks from
ever escaping the European induced living conditions. The stipulation in the Treaty of Vereeniging
that schools continue to teach in Dutch, and conduct court in the

The Seizure Of Nasser s Nationalization Of The Suez Canal
Nasser intended to use the revenue from the waterway to fund the Aswan Dam project, but it
would have taken Egypt 367 years to pay for the Dam from tolls alone. The Canal only brought in
a profit of $52 million and not the $100 million profit that Nasser was claiming.
To the United States, the nationalization of the Canal was a convenient excuse for what was to
come. To Britain and France, who felt that they owned the historical rights to the Suez Canal
Company, the seizure of the canal meant that they would lose their largest colonial vestige in the
region. Because there were no legal route for Britain and France to oppose Nasser s nationalization,
the Egyptian President could continue to manage the canal. British Prime Minister Anthony Eden
was prepared to react decisively with military action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made passive threats that nuclear weapons would be used if the countries did not withdraw from
Egypt. Although United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower felt that the Soviet Union was using
the crisis as an opportunity to infiltrate the region, Eisenhower did not support military
intervention in the Middle East. Eisenhower feared that the conflict would catalyze into a direct
confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. During a policy meeting,
Eisenhower stated, If the Soviets attack the French and British directly, we would be in war, and
we would be justified in taking military action. A Third World War seemed imminent, but
Eisenhower was determined to deter further conflict. At the time of the crisis, Britain was
experiencing severe oil shortages and a near collapse of their banking system as a result of their
military involvement. A furious Eisenhower pressured his Western ally to yield to Nasser by
refusing to deliver oil or to offer any financial support until all British forces were removed from

Analysis Of Mixed Blood By Jefferson Fisher
The article is titled Mixed Blood by Jefferson M. Fisher. The article is about Jefferson who is an
anthropology professor and who is interviewing his daughter and her Brazilian boyfriend how
different places categorize race and ethnicity. He uses that as an example to demonstrate that there
is no such thing as raceit s a way that we have categorized things. Like here in the United Stateswe
see the avocado as a vegetable in Brazil they see it as a fruit and eat avocados for dinner. The
article also describes hypo descent which basically organizes race with a hierarchy with whites at
the top then Asians then blacks. Another thing Jefferson talks about is how IQ is not affiliated
with race how we have defined it as some races having a higher

Treasury Stock Is A Process Of Accounting
Treasury stock is a process of accounting that dates back as early as 1720. The concept of treasury
stock originated when companies discovered that they could sell shares at an unrealistically low
price equal to par value incorporators, who in turn donated those shares back to the company. As
a result these shares, which had already been issued though not outstanding could be sold at
whatever the real market price was without adjusting for stated capital 2. There is however, not
one securely agreed upon definition, as over the years there has been a lack of unanimity as to just
what should be included under the term. One commonly accepted and simple definition was stated
by late Professor Glenn of course it is a stockthat has been issued and later reacquired by the same
company . Another generally accepted definition that goes into more detail was stated by
Fletcher, he defines it as Treasury stock is as its name implies, it is a stock held by the
corporation in its treasury to be used or disposed of by the company in the furtherance of
corporate purposes, but the courts are not in accord as to how or what procedure shares of stock
acquire or take on the status of treasury stock. The courts are agreed that such stock is the
personal property of the corporation to be disposed of by the company on such terms as it
chooses. A difference in opinion arises as to whether treasury stock is an asset or property 6. Some
of the confusion regarding the nature of treasury stock

My Resolution For New Year
Every year my family and I count down to the new year, this year I am came up with a resolution
that I can keep with myself for a long time and use it until I am out of school all the way up to
collage. New Year has always seemed to be a fresh start of a new cycle, this year I hope my
resolution shall be one of the best one! My new year s resolutionfor 2018 is to do better in school
and to think outside the box when it comes to schoolwork. This has been something that I have
been trying to reach since Middle school and I am still trying even harder to do my very best in
school now. There is also still some improvements that I need to make in school, like if I do bad
on a test I know for next time to study real good for that subject. However, I am going to start off
this year the right way by not only setting my goal, but also making sure I achieve each and every
one of them.
This year I aim to focus on getting remarkable grades and staying focused in school no matter
how boring and long it is. I plan to do better in school than I did in 2017. Just some things I have
to stay on top of is studying and doing well on my homework no matter how long it takes. When I
take tests I have to be careful and pick the best possible answer, again that s where the studying
should pay off. If I am able to do everything I said then I should be sure to achieve my New Year s
goal! This resolution will make me more focused and be ready for tests and homework that my
teachers throw at me. If I make this change now then I will not have to worry about it in the future
and I will be more on track and in good shape.
Change is 100% needed in this area because I should be performing at my highest capability.
Homework so far this year in most of my subjects is difficult and sometimes confusing. I am trying
to get good grades in my subjects and so far I am not doing too bad but I need to do work beyond
my ability. If I am having trouble my first instinct is to wait and go ask the teacher the next day, but
I fell like now I should at least try my best and or ask family members for help. School is a #1
priority in my family and it can pretty much decide where you go. You could go to a great collage
and have an amazing high paying job or

An Analysis Of Stephen Pax Leonard s So You Think They Can...
How many ways of referring to ice exist in the language used by the Polar Eskimos? The answer
may surprise since compared to the dominant languages, in which the concept of ice is described by
a single word, the Polar Eskimos have more than twenty times that number. Despite apparent
uniqueness of this language, it is likely that no one will use in a relatively short time as
globalization whips out minority languages leaving only a few with a chance to survive. In the
essay, Death by Monoculture, Stephen Pax Leonard argues that this deprivation in the realm of
languages is going to lead to a dull world (Leonard 148). In contrast, Jeff Chang, an author of So

The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
The Catcher in the Rye is a popular novel written by J.D. Salinger. Published in 1951, the book
was originally written for adults, but it is now remembered and adored by people from all parts
of the world and people from all walks of life especially by teenagers a likely effect that was only
inevitable considering the center stage of the narrator the great crumby flake Holden Caulfield, to
use his style of speaking, who accurately portrayed teenage angst and loneliness in a style that
many youngsters could and do relate to.1 The book is about his quest to find himself after being
threatened with expulsion at the expensive prep school that he attends. Selling millions upon

But it isn t easy to determine the length of this double standard because of the scarcity of good,
honest conversations and discussions about and with other men and boys throughout the book.
Caulfield s trials and tribulations have a heavy emphasis on women and girls, so that is why
much of the info on this lens naturally lens towards discussions on feminine social standards from
his perspective. There are many women and girls that Holden Caulfield talks about, talks to, and
thinks about throughout the novel. For further analysis on his relationships with them, they can
be divided into three categories: figures of authority, lovers, and family. Caulfield s own mother
would have been the character of choice for the first category, but since there is a scarce amount
of conversation with her we ll have to default to the next most talkative female authority figure:
the mother of a fellow classmate named Ernest Morrow. He met the woman on a commuter rail
heading to New York from Caulfield s school dorm in Pencey Prep in Agerstown, Pennsylvania.
She initiated a conversation with him after she noticed a school sticker on one of his suitcases.
They mostly discussed about the school and about Ernest Morrow s personality and behavior, and
of course the usual motherly inquiry of whether or not they were friends. Although Caulfield ended
up giving his name as a non existent Rudolf Schmidt, the key thing to point out was that this six

electronics and lightweight materials over the last few decades have resulted in the
popularization of quadcopters. Whether for recreational, military, or commercial use, people are
beginning to recognize the potential of quadcopters. One company in particular that is looking to

Unlike conventional airplanes, rotary winged aircrafts have a fundamental advantage in that lift
and control are relatively independent of forward speed. Rotary aircrafts do not need a runway
and have much more freedom and maneuverability in the air. Despite early efforts to fly using
rotary winged devices as well as the mentioned advantages, the first successful flight came from a
fixed wing aircraft [2]. The development of rotor technology paved the path for the creation of the
quadcopter. Etienne Oehmichen successfully built the first quadrotor in 1922 called the
Oehmichen No. 2. A single 120 horsepower engine powered the four rotors of this machine.
However, due to a lack of control of individual rotors, the altitude and orientation could not be
varied. To combat this issue, four additional propellers were attached to better direct the movement
of the quadrotor [3]. Modern quadcopters do not rely on additional propellers to maneuver
themselves. Instead, each rotor can be manipulated to perform virtually any aerial move. Today,
quadcopters are used in many areas of industry due to their reliability, cost effectiveness and multi
functionality. The most widely known uses come from photography and the military. Quadcopters
are constantly seen being used in sports media coverage, recreational and professional filming,

The Causes Of Homelessness
Homelessness is defined as the situation of an individual or family without stable, permanent,
appropriate housing, or the immediate prospect, means, and ability of acquiring it. It is the result of
systemic or societal barriers, a lack of affordable and appropriate housing, the individual/household s
financial, mental, cognitive, behavioral or physical challenges, and/or racism and discrimination.
Most people do not choose to be homeless, and the experience is generally negative, unpleasant,

When the bubble bursts, thousands of people will be left vulnerable to the disease, mental
problems and violence on the streets. The last major cause of poverty is the lack of employment
or income2. Without these obvious necessities, people will simply not be able to provide for
themselves. By helping one another and being a Brother s Keeper , society could begin to reverse
the homelessness problem as well as prevent it from affecting future generations.
Many people who are homeless use jail as an alternative to sleeping outside especially during the
winter months. They jump between shelters and jail because it is the only place for them to go.
A survey conducted with 363 prisoners that have spent 5 or more consecutive nights in jail in
the greater Toronto area showed that 22.9 percent of the prisoners were homeless9. When
looking at all the homeless that were incarcerated 30% of them that were questioned admitted to
committing a petty crime in order to get off the streets10. One fifth avoided bail to ensure that
they would be in jail for as long as possible10. Before being discharged 85% of the homeless
anticipated being homeless again9. This restarts the cycle which leads them to going back to jail
for a few nights of food and medical service. This is not a solution to the problem as nothing is
solved and people remain homeless.

Songs of Innocence and of Experience, which is written by William Blake, was published in

about this poem is that it is as a song for children and describes the innocence state of human

The text starts with naive questions Little Lamb, who made thee? Dost thou know who made
thee? (Blake). It could be considered as simple questions of a child to want to know about the
world. These questions are simple, but nobody can have a correct answer. Descriptive sentences
are follow the questions. A lamb is described through its wool and voice. Those are first things
can be observed by children, so it will be easy for them can know what author is describing. In
addition, Blake uses words delight , bright , tender , rejoice to describe about the lamb, they are
also words implied to innocence. The children are same as the lamb in the selection text and
consider a innocence creature. They are naive, happy and holy. Third, literary device helps to
describe the innocence in the selection text. The lamb is selected on the text rather than other
animals. Characteristic of lamb is gentle and playful, and it have a white soft wool. They could
be a symbol of innocence. However, lamb is the choice of Blake in his poem could imply
another thing. The word Lamb is capitalized in the poem. It means that Blake want to imply
specific somebody or something rather than normal lamb. It will difficult to consider whom
Blake wants to talk about. However, as we know about Blake, all his knowledge is from bible.

Need, author Juliet Schor states consuming is authentic as it gets in the American culture and the
standard of living has changed in relation to consumerism. Americans need to work longer hours in
order to make money that they are then pressured to spend. Schor describes today s consumerism as

The new consumerism essentially with its increasing aspirational gap, has begun to endanger the
quality of American life. Consequently, there is pressure to keep up with commodity goods and not
worthwhile experiences. Schor claims that Americans did not become greedy out of nowhere, but
instead, The aspirational gap has been created by structural changes such as the decline of
community and social connection and the intensification of inequality... (Schor, P.255, L2, L#2).
A right to a decent standard of living and quality of life rather than quantity of stuff are two of
the seven basic elements Schor argues for a new politics of consumption. Author Sut Jhally
stated that a quality of life survey seemed to reveal that things are not fundamentally connected
to goods. It is primarily social life and not material life that seems to be the locus of perceived
happiness (Jhally, P.248, L2, L#13). The new consumerism involves impulsively reacting to
advertisers who create a desire that we have to keep wanting more if we want to maintain some
level of social status. It s a never ending cycle that economists feel will lead to doom, yet do we
really care? Both Jhally and James Twitchell provides an exchange of ideas and question what
happiness truly means in our society. Jhally presents his theory on this subject by highlighting that

Society as a whole has become ridiculous. The celebrities who we once looked up to are now
setting a bad example for the youth of today. Teenagers are so focused on being cool, standing out,

Many famous celebrities have changed completely going from innocent to out of control. We look
at their behavior on Instagram or on television and try to emulate them. A good example is teen pop

Learning about his touching background as a small Canadian boy who was discovered on
YouTube at the young age of 13 and seeing him grow up, it made me enjoy listening to him a lot
more. Once he got older, things took a huge turn. At the age of 17, he was caught with drugs,
underage drinking, and was associating himself with the wrong crowd. Surrounding himself in
this type of environment made him become more out of hand because no one was ever able
control him. Even though he had a strict mother, she was enabling him by making excuses for
his actions. Justin s dad was even worse. Instead of being a father figure, he took on the role as

everyone in Justin s social circle were not looking out for him but taking advantage or using him.
Being famous can easily change a down to earth person. As a pop star, you are always
surrounded by thousands of people who look up to you. That can put a lot of pressure on a
person whether they want to be a role model or not. Having to always meet your fans standards
can be hard I agree, but your standards shouldn t be low where you are making a fool out of
yourself in front of your millions of fans. I think these two popular pop stars are asking for a lot
more trouble than they already are in and will receive worse consequences in the end. I also think

The Executive Officer, Ron Johnson
INTRODUCTION Former J.C. Penney Chief Executive Officer, Ron Johnson, spent less than
18 months in the company s top job. In 2012, at the time of his departure, Johnson had earned
more than $53.3 million in salary and benefits for his short stint at the company (Smith and

while David Simon, CEO of the Simon Property Group, banked $137.2 million (Smith and

Social and political movements, such as Occupy Wall Street, have served to galvanize the
debate over CEO pay in the United States. While no one would argue that today s executives earn
more than ever before, a question arises over whether or not limits should be placed on the
amount of compensation they should earn. Those who would oppose the motion of placing
limits on the amount that executives should earn argue that CEOs pay is commensurate with
their performance and the high risk nature of their job. Similarly, those in favour of the motion
would argue that such high salaries only serve to encourage CEOs to engage in risky behaviour
while imposing significant social and economic costs on everybody else. This essay will argue
that, given the significant economic and social costs of skyrocketing executive pay, that it is
imperative that government place limits on the salaries of CEOS of publicly traded companies.
In doing so, this essay will trace the rise of executive pay in the American economy, critically
examine the issue of whether or not CEOs earn their paycheques and explore the high social and
economic costs imposed on others when the wage between is so high. The essay will conclude by
examining different options available to government in their attempt to rein in astronomical
executive pay. A SHORT HISTORY OF

Steve Jobs s 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, Apple And...
Living Life with a Purpose In his 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, founder and CEO of
Apple and Pixar, Steve Jobs develops ethos, pathos, and logos in order to motivate and inspire
the graduating class, ultimately persuading the students to Stay foolish, stay hungry . Jobs
shows that he is a reliable example by describing this achievement throughout his life. He
expands on his ethical appeal to the crowd by explaining his failures, We d just released our
finest creation... and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired (Jobs 3). Jobs is known as a
highly successful businessman. Jobs, however; expands on his failure and is open about it. It is
thought that once something goes wrong there is no way to get back from it. But Jobs recalls
being fired from Apple as the best thing that could have ever happened to me (Jobs 2). Jobs uses
his failure to further expand on the importance of staying creative and remaining ambitious. Jobs
had to move on from his job and when he did, I started a company named NeXT... In a
remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, and I returned to Apple, and the technology we
developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple s current renaissance (Jobs 3). Jobs is telling the
Stanford graduating class that life may not go the way that was planned, but if they pursue what
they believe is the right path, and they do not give up then they will be able to thrive. Jobs is

General Motors Demise Of Automobile Manufacturing
General Motors, a once supposable untouchable force, was immediately a leader in the field of
automobile manufacturing upon its establishment in 1908. Its focus on motorised transportation
saw its rapid success and accession through the acquisition of many companies with the mission
statement of a car for every purse and purpose , making it a super power within the motorised
industry. However, due to a number of internal and external problems within the business, General
Motors began to quickly demise. Japanese automotive manufacturer, Toyota, established as an

General Motors inability to analyse and diagnose complex situations showed that they were
lacking some of the characteristics needed in order to be effective and efficient managers. This
crucial as managers to be able to understand the organisation s environment, analysing and
reacting to issues within and outside of the business. In the past, General Motors had been a a
forerunner in innovation with designs such as the first tailfins in 1948, sharped edged vehicles
in 1959 and 1975 being the first manufacture tom implement emission controls. However, as The
New York Times correctly identified in 2009, that the 1980s began to see General Motors slip.
Consumers had begun to shift to small, more efficient cars as demand for lager cars decreased.
This can be pinpointed on a number of reasons. Statistics show that the amount of people per
household had dropped from 3.37 people per household in 1950 to 2.69. With less people on
average per household, it is evident that families no longer required bigger cars. The US
Petroleum Crisis of 1979 saw fuel prices increase and therefore so a demand in more efficient
vehicles. American consumers were told that the cause of the crisis was a decline in Iranian oil
production from 5.8 million barrels a day in July 1978 to 445,000 barrels a day in January 1979.

Who Is Catherine The Great
Biography of Catherine the Great
One of the most interesting, hard working and powerful people to grace the pages of history
during the eighteenth century was Catherine II, Empress of Russia. Historians have not always
been so kind to her memory, and all too often one reads accounts of her private life, ignoring her
many achievements. The stories of her love affairs have been overly misinterpreted and can be
traced to a handful of French writers in the years immediately after Catherine s death, when
Republican France was fighting for its life against a coalition that included Russia.
Catherine was born Sophia Augusta Frederika of Anhalt Zerbst on April 21, 1729 in Stettin, then
Germany, now Poland. Her father, Prince Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was at this time that Catherine, who had never felt more isolated, wrote: I should have loved
my new husband, if only he had been willing or able to be in the least lovable. But in the first
days of my marriage, I made some cruel reflections about him. I said to myself: If you love this
man, you will be the most wretched creature on Earth. Watch your step, so far as affection for this
gentleman is concerned, think of yourself, Madame. The young couple settled down, but the
marriage was a miserable failure.
Catherine was disappointed with her marriage, but decided to stick it out and concentrate on
building herself a powerful group of allies. Catherine occupied herself with reading everything she
could lay her hands on. She discovered satisfaction in the works of Plato and Voltaire. Her interest
in the intellect caused an even greater distance between Peter and herself. The years passed and
there was still no heir in sight.
This of course irritated the Empress who wanted to secure a powerful dynasty, and could not do so
without the presence of a male heir. She thought it must be Catherine s fault because she was not
attracted to her husband. However, it was Peter that was not able to produce a male son, so
Elizabeth permitted an affair between Catherine and a Russian military officer named Serge
Saltykov. Catherine finally gave birth to a son, whom the Empress named Paul, on September 20,
1754. Peter accepted it as his

New Testament Beliefs
Theism is the belief of God that we learn from the Old and New Testament writings. It has three
beliefs. First, is that God is beyond anything we could possibly envision, and that He resides in the
world with us. He is transcendent and immanent at the same time. Second, is that God created the
world from ex nihilo. Godalone without any help created the universe from nothing. Third, is the
belief that God is a supernatural, miracle producing God (Case, 2000, p. 10 12). As I reflect on the
three core beliefs of theism, it heightens my understanding of who I am. If I am of God, then I
should think of myself with more authority and power, not projecting self righteousness, but
projecting more confidence. The mere fact that I am created

How The Hundred Years War Greatly Impacted The Course Of...
The hundred years war greatly impacted the course of world history. This war was marked as
one of the biggest wars ever fought in history. Dated to go from 1337 to 1453, this war led to
new weapons being created, which not only played a major role in this war, but in all of world
history. The creation of these new weapons led to the end of an economic system known as
Feudalism. The war also was a cause of religious conflicts in the Catholic church. Another major
event that had happened during this war was the Black Plague striking the Middle East. The
Hundred Years War began when Edward III, of England, assumed the right as king of France
from King Philip VI. King Philip VI had not gone through with an agreement he had made with
England to restore a part of Guienne, which had been taken by Charles IV. The French did not
believe that an Englishmen should be ruling France, but rather wanted a French noble ruling
France (Hundred Years War). In the beginning of the war, King Edward III attacked and took
over Flanders, which was a marketplace for wool and cloths (Hundred Years War). The Hundred
Years War was not only marked as important in world history for it s length on the timeline, but
also for some of the major events that happened, such as the Black Plague, the end of Feudalism,
and the major battles that had occurred. Feudalism is the old political and economic system that
Medieval Europe had used at the the time of the war. In the feudalist society, the only

How Technology Hinders Society
After studying this unit in history and literature classes, I believe that technology hinders society
and our personal lives. We ve created a machine that can go beyond human knowledge. Mankind
now depend a lot on technology... Skinner s in his quote, The real problem is not whether machines
think but whether men do. After studying this unit in history and literature classes I believe that
technologyhinders society and our personal life.
The impact of technology has hindered society and mankind. Technology is a hindered to man
kind because it is taking out all the skills humans have to do. While a machine does all the work,
humans get to sit around controlling or doing another task that isn t as skillful as what the
machine is doing. In the story The Machine Stops, people s lives are controlled by the machine.
For example, in the passage it states, There were buttons and switches everywhere buttons to call
for food for music, for clothing. (Forster, pg.3). This shows that we won t be capable of doing
simple tasks in the future and have everything done for us in a push of a button. This is important
because if we keep making inventions that can out smart mankind, then there isn t need of our
knowledge. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Political Interest Of Madagascar
Madagascar has always been of great political interest to many countries and governments. It
seems a suitable island that is out of the way, but it is in the centre of everything at the same time.
People are very unsuspecting of it, and it was the same in World War 2 as well...
The Germans and the rest of the Axis had very good reasons for wanting to control Madagascar.
The first is that they were going to use this remote island as a place to deport some of the
remaining 10,000 Jewish refugees still in France that had not been able to find a home in South
Africa or Brazil. The French were not the only ones suffering though; the Polish and the
Germans really need to get the Jews out as well. However like many of the other Nazi ideologies,
it was not a new one. A lot of British, Polish and Dutch anti Semites had been considering the idea
to move the Jews there since as early as 1878.
Luckily for Nazis, Madagascar was under the control and within the empire of Vichy France (the
part of France that had surrendered to Hitler), and according to the surrender terms, France had
to let the Germans into Madagascar as well. It was going to be easy. Not only would it get rid of
the Jews, but it would also help the Axis financially as the Jews were currently surviving on
charity. In May 1936, there was a new French administration voted in, and there was serious talk
of the Jews being moved there, and they even went as far as to investigate the island to check if it
was liable for that

Racism In The Film Remember The Titans
There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that
segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of
this statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before.
Circumstances such as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and
Caucasian police officers gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are
just some examples of the racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racismis no
longer a problem in this world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African
Americans. The inequalities this minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain
groups of people, that are trying to bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge,
the media has been very effective, in not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in
seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our countries past, the media, and even more specifically,
movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing light of many types of injustices brought onto
minority groups. A prime example of a movie that presents some of these issues is Remember the
Titans . Throughout this essay, I will be analyzing this film, identifying some of the aspects of the
film s form, content and symbolism, regarding the impact on American culture, that can be seen
within it.

Reaction Paper On The Apology Of Socrates
Undoubtedly, the Apology of Socrates is one of the most significant work among all the classics. It
is an account of the speech of Socrates makes at the trial in defence for the accusations of not

the speech, Socratesspeaks in a very plain manner to attempt to defend himself and his conduct.
Though Socrates was sentenced to death as even his eloquent argument could not persuade all the

Altruism And It s Causes
In this paper, I will be discussing the concept of altruism and it s causes in relation to a story of a
bus driver who risked her own life to save the children she was transporting. To achieve this goal I
will: define the necessary concepts (part I), provide examples demonstrating the differing causes of
altruismand how they relate to the event in question (part II), and refer to conducted research
which supports and further describes the actions taken in my chosen event (part III). While there
are many persons who acted altruistically in the following story, I have decided to narrow the
scope of this paper to the acts of one Renita Smith so as to enable a greater level of precision in my
attribution and explanation of the relevant concepts.
Event Summary
Whilst going through her elementary school bus route, Renita Smith, the bus driver, was alerted to
a beeping sound coming from her dashboard before she detected the scent of smoke. Only mere
moments later, the bus, which was carrying 20 children, caught aflame. In the released dashcam
footage, the bus in question can be seen entirely engulfed by a thick, black smoke and fire. Without
waiting to consider options, Smith immediately stopped the bus and began escorting the children
off of it. Surrounding neighbours and drivers ran to the aid of the children, ensuring that they made
it a safe distance away. It was Smith, however, who risked her own life through repeatedly entering
the flaming bus until she was certain that not

Wizard Of Oz Color Analysis
L. Frank Baum wrote an amazing story using colors to describe each part of Dorothy s journey to
Oz. The color changes throughout the story symbolized setting changes and different stages in her
journey. The colors also represented danger, beauty, power, mood and identified characters and
surroundings.
The story begins with the color gray. Dorothy s home, her dog Toto, the farm she lived on with
her Aunt and Uncle, the land and sky are all gray and dull. Once the house had been painted, but
the sun blistered the paint and the rains washed it away, and now the house was as dull and gray
as everything else (Baum, ch.1). Her hardworking relatives were too busy working on the farm to
have any fun with Dorothy. The best part of Dorothy s life is her best friend Toto, who is black
and the only thing that isn t gray in her life. A fast approaching cyclone is about to change Dorothy

Personality Traits
In psychology, personality traits could be explained from many aspects, and one of them describes
personality traits as categorizations of people s particular characteristics (Burger, 1997) while others
hold opposite ideas that personalities are more unique and different for each individual depending
on his or her peculiar life experience. The former idea relates itself to nomothetic approach, which is
a quantitative approach that studies personalities that people share in common to find out a general
law that applies to everyone. The nomothetic approach suggests that people show universal traits
and that personality traits are consistent within humans. Gordan Allport first brought up this

clue about the poor boy s mysterious case was the box he was found in. The box was from a
JCPenny store 15 miles away. The investigators used the serial number on the box in which they
later traced down and found out that it had previously contained a bassinet. 12 boxes of the
bassinets were shipped but there was no record because since all 12 paid in cash. 8 out of the 12
people who bought the bassinets called to clarify that they had either thrown the box away or still
have it.
Apart from the clues given they still had one more mystery to solve and it was who the boy was.
Investigators still wanted to continue with the case so they kept the boy in a morgue. Many
people from 10 different stated came to look at the boy to see if he was a missing family member.
Unfortunately, nobody claimed him. Foot prints and fingerprints of the boy were taken and
compared to hospital records but nothing was found. 400,000 flyers of the boy were sent out and
even the AMA sent out a description but nothing came through. The fact that there is no proof that
the boy even existed led to many theories of who

Indiana Jones Movie Analysis
China, Vietnam, India, and other Eastern countries are being falsely depicted in a stereotyped way
that is deemed as exhibiting a colonialist prejudice in many of the Western movies. The term for
this wrongful representation of these Eastern countries is called orientalism. The use of orientalism
is not an uncommon thing in western movies, of which, Indiana Jones movies are of no exception.
Most of Indiana Jones movies take place in the Eastern countries, thus, one can see how they
orientalized the citizens and the culture of that country. First and foremost, the portrayal of
Goddess Kali or Ma Kali in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, is absolutely erroneous. It is
true that Ma Kali is associated with death, but rather than death of... Show more content on

Willie was not willing to go on the adventure with Indiana, but rather was forced to. She screams

order to be his wife for the fortune. Now, there are a few more scenes that reveal her love for
fortune, but let skip that flaw and go onto the damsel in distress theme. Just like Marion, Willie

The Red Room by H.G. Wells Essay
The Red Room by H.G. Wells The title The Red Room immediately attracts the reader s
attention; it is symbolic but leaves unanswered questions. ?What is the red room?? Is this room
dangerous? Overall the title raises so much curiosity wanting us to read on and find answers to
our questions. Red is a very strong colour and is generally associated with blood, danger,
warning, hell, and above all, fear, the title also shows the setting of the story. It makes you wonder
why the room is called the red room and if it is actually red. The Red Room contains all the
elements of a ghost story; the story is written to illustrate the nature of fear and is an insight into
how it affects the human mind. This story contains all the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

?The great Red Room of Lorraine Castle, in which the young Duke had died.? The stories
brought up have an effect on both the reader and the young man in the story. For the reader it
reinforces the feeling that the man is doomed and for the young man himself, it shatters his
nerves and makes him aware of all the possible dangers that could seal his fate if he enters the
room. There is only one main character in ?The Red Room?, and three minor characters. The
main character is not introduced to us in any way; all we learn is that he is a 28 year old and is
at this castle to prove his manhood by staying overnight in a ?haunted room?. We do not know
how he came to be at the house or whom he is trying to prove himself to. He is, at no point in the
story given a name. This is done on purpose, to create a mysterious and uneasy atmosphere, but
within the first few lines of dialogue we understand that he is a very confident and boastful man:
?It will take a very tangible ghost to frighten me.? However brave he says he is, he carries a gun
with him. This shows that he is prepared for a possible emergency, although if there was a ghost,
then generally you would be unable to shoot a ghost because the bullet would go straight through
the ghost; it reinforces that he doesn?t believe in ghosts. He is rather curious and inquisitive and is
always looking for an answer which is just like the

The Character Of Ignatius J. Reilly In A Confederacy Of...
In A Confederacy of Dunces, by John Kennedy Tool, Ignatius J. Reilly is trying to prove that he
is smarter than society in New Orleans during the 1960 s. He is forced to find work to pay off
the debt that his mother fell into after crashing her car into a building. Ignatius has no shame in
telling people how he feels about them or their beliefs. His encounters while he is trying to find
work bring out his true colors: lazy, complaining, and paranoid. Throughout the book, Ignatius
shows that he has no desire to put the good education that he has received into effect in the real
world. While they are at the Night of Joy, Mrs. Reilly says, I spent all his poor Grammaw Reilly
s insurance money to keep him in college for eight years, and since then all he s done is lay
around the house watching television (Toole 22). When Mrs. Reilly walks into Ignatius s room
and asks him why he has trash all over the floor, he says, That is my world view that you see. It
still must be incorporated into a whole, so be careful where you step (46). All that he means when
he says this is he is too lazy to pick it up. While Mrs. Reilly is on the phone with Santa, she says,
With all his education, mind you. Selling weenies out on the street in the broad daylight (172)....

The Life of Barbara Ehrenreich Essay
At one point in her career, Barbara Ehrenreich thought that it would be a good idea to get into the
life of a person who works for the minimum wage and tries to live of it. As she went through her
quest, Barbara met many people who were in fact, struggling. Unlike her, these people had to
work multiple jobs, cut down their eating, live in terrible places, and just suffer all because of
the lack of money and the need for as much of it as the could get. Some of these employees had
others that they had to support, and some only needed to provide for themselves. Nonetheless,

Their job is to act like they are actual cave people in an amusement park, where others come to
observe their actions and living conditions, much like if it were a zoo. Throughout the course of
the story, we learn about how the narrator does not report his cave mate for not staying quiet,
being rude to the customers, and just being a complete slacker. But, when he hears about the lay
off of one of the committed workers at the amusement park, he knows that he has to buckle
down in order to keep his job. Dave was super dedicated. He grew his own beard long instead of
wearing a fake even when on vacation went around barefoot to make his feet look more like the
feet of an actual ascetic (14). So, after learning about this, he does his best to help make Janet
improve and also informs her of what was going on. She agreed that the circumstances might get
them both fired so she too tried to get better at her job and be much more committed to it than
she was before and so Saunders writes, Time to pull head out of ass, I guess, she says. I give her
a thumbs up (24). Janet knows that if she does not take her job serious, she would be incapable
of providing for herself, her mother who is seriously ill, and her son whom has a problem of his
own. Although Janet vows to no longer be a bother to her cave mate, this turns out to not be the

Importance Of Erformance Tuning And Partitioning
erformance tuning and partitioning go hand in hand, in that partitioning is one you can take to tune
performance from a database level, so I will start out with explaining tuning and then go into detail
about partitioning.
Performance tuning can take place from a DBA perspective, at the full database level, or from a
Developer perspective, on the level of individual packages/procedures/functions and SQL queries.
Before initiating performance tuning, you need to know where your performance bottlenecks are.
There are a number of ways a DBA can determine where the bottlenecks are, including AWR
reports, which can show the DBA what areas show the highest wait times. Once the specific SQL
statements or PL/SQL code has been targeted, we can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once a table is partitioned, it is easier and faster to access the data in the table, because a query
can access just one or a group of partitions on the table, rather than accessing all of the data in the
parent table. You can even specify a partitionto use in your query. Queries can also work in
parallel on the table, running through multiple partitions at once, which is especially helpful if
you find you can t avoid a full table scan. So, even if your partitions aren t set up logically to
your query, there is a performance improvement to partitioning. There are several options for the
type of partitioning you can do. One common method is to partition by a range of data, for
instance a date range. This is helpful if your table has a lot of historical data, and only the newest
data is normally accessed or updated, rather than accessing ALL of the historical data, you can
access just the latest data. It s possible, on the other hand, that your table is usually accessed by a
column with distinct values, such as a department id, in which case it might be better to use list
partitioning, or you could have a composite partition, such as a range list partition, such as
organizing the partitions by department id and a date. There is a drawback to partitioning in that
you have to specify each of the partitions. If you

The Course Of True Love Never Did Run Smooth Essay
One would argue for the quote when Lysander says, The course of true love never did run
smooth. This can be argued for with the large abundance of examples that were revealed
throughout the play, like when Lysander and Hermia s flame of love was trying to be extinguished
by Egeus, Hermias father. Egeus desires for Hermia to wed Demetrius, but another aimlessly chases
Demetrius with the results ending in scorn, that is Helena. This overly complicated lovestory led
them to the magical forest where there already be two lovers whom love each other, though, they
constantly feud, the lovers are Oberon and Titania. In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Lysander
says, The course of true love never did run smooth, and this is true because Lysander and Hermia
are not allowed to love, Helena aimlessly chases Demetrius with no results, and though Titania and
Oberon are in love, they constantly feud.
Some may say that true love is rare and if it is, how out of the ordinary that Hermia and Lysander
share true love, though, not without a little distress. Hermia and Lysander ... Show more content on

Nordic Noir Heroine
With the late 1990s noir women, international audiences were presented with a heroine who relies
less on her sexual performance, and more on other abilities (Wager, 2005, p. 6). This heroine
existed outside of the Production Code and shows more similarities with the revised Nordic Noir
heroine. A vast majority of these late 1990s women were, even though she was less dependent on
her sexuality, still rather attractive. Thus, even with their ability to triumph over the challenges they
were exposed to, their sexuality remained appealing. They seem to have been specifically
celebrated and enjoyed as females, including their pleasant aesthetics, instead of in a way
overlooking the fact that the protagonist is a femalee.g. depicted as indifferent... Show more content

Jans B. Wager calls her the femme attrapГ©e (2005, p. 4). These women do not resist the
patriarchy and consequently survive the narrative whereas the femme fatale who fights against
the male domination (both socially and economically) ends up losing her life or freedom
(Wager, 2005, p. 4). Both her and the femme fatale remain bound by patriarchal culture and
classic film noir clearly delineates the ambivalent nature of the choices available. The femme
attrapГ©e characteristics continue to exist in noir films today, however often set in the time
period of classic noir (Wager, 2005, p. 4). They do not reflect the postfeminist existence that
inhabits Nordic Noir, but moreover contradict, instead of revise, the Western culture. She seems
to exist to show the contrast between her and the femme fatale and often it is the good girl that
seems out of place, not the alluring and dangerous femme fatales. The femme attrapГ©e
conflicts most with female characters in Nordic Noir as she is a female character who is forced
to give up, leaving a gap between desire and reality, whereas Nordic Noir s strong women, as seen
with the femme fatale, refuse to give up no matter how hard the struggle may be. The lack of
women in Nordic Noir that

The Various Language Skill Development
Being social animals, human beings experience an innate drive to communicate and share their
thoughts and feelings with others. The essay discusses the various language skill development
stages among the children from zero to seven years. It analyses the importance of nature and nurture
with the aid of behaviourist and nativist perspectives. In the light of the explanations by Vygotsky
and Jean Piaget, the essay attempts to discuss the role of culture, experience, maturation and
willingness to learn. Cambridge dictionary defines language as #39;a system of communication
#39; among human beings. This communication system consists of sounds and words. The element
of grammar makes communication meaningful (Cambridge Dictionary 2016).... Show more content

Gradually the child imitates the words from its environment. Children are more used to the words,
like mom, milk, dad, no, that are recited to them frequently. At this stage, the child associates these
words to their meanings. After the age of two, there is a tremendous exploration of vocabulary
(Clarke, 2009). Children accumulate thousands of words till the age of six. Initially they go for
replacement of difficult terms with simple ones. This is due to their struggle with complex
vocabulary. This tendency changes after six. The conventional word order, tense and grammar are
grasped during these ages. By the age of four, children would be good conversationalist. At this
stage the syntactic and semantic developments occur in children (Choice2099, 2014). Children, in
their early years, imitate sounds and words that are produced by adults. B.F. Skinner employs his
theory of behaviourism to explain this mental process (Nellie, 2013). Skinner argues that language
development like any other behaviour or habit, can be imbibed through repetition and
reinforcement. He uses the concepts of classical conditioning and operant conditioning to explain
this phenomenon. Children associates the frequently used terms with its meanings. The word
#39;mom #39; brings the mental image of their mother. They tend to use correct words and
pronunciation to experience positive

A Social Worker Essay
For decades, British governments pledged to combat and reduce the alleged cost of addressing the
associated harms of substance misuse. Critics argue ploughing money into substance misuse diverts
billions of pounds from more productive expenditure (Fordham et al, 2007). Yet investment in this
area is essential for improving the prospects of future generations, especially as unknown numbers
of children are subjected to hidden harm amid their home environment (ACMD, 2003). Having
unsuccessfully trialled different initiatives, the latest drug policy resorted to recovery . This
approach tackles addictionby addressing wider contributory issues to encourage respectful and
socially accepted behaviour, and individuals to eventually contribute as fully fledged members of
the community (HM Gov, 2010).
Despite the benefits, many are reluctant to participate within the recovery programme. Hesitancy
primarily originates from the prejudicial attitude of structural forces, like government and the
media, which caused substance misuse to become one of the most stigmatised conditions
(Livingston et al, 2012). The role of a social worker is to minimise the impact of stigma by
demonstrating that service users are accepted and worthy of assistance, boosting their morale and
self esteem, and working alongside them to show that recovery is really possible. This essay
analyses the main drivers making substance misusers resistant to changing their behaviour, as well
as discusses the

The Seven Functions Of Management
For any organization (in this case, health organization) to succeed, survive or thrive, there must be
effective and efficient management on the part of the leadership. Management is an essential
component of any organization because it is the component that directs and coordinates the current
activities of the organization and also makes provisions on the plans for the future.
Business dictionary.com (2015) defines management as organizing and coordinating the activities
of business with the sole aim of achieving its defined objectives. It is the act of bringing people
together in other to achieve the desired objectives and goals in an effective and efficient way.
Management can also be defined as the ability or procedures made to achieve the goals of an

2.1.2 Functions of Management
For management to be effective, it should be able to creatively solve problems, motivate
employees/workers and be able to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. It consists of
various components and activities which are useful to every manager without regard to their level
or status.
There are seven functions of management that I will like to discuss below; each functions are
inseparable because each one depend on the other. These management functions are:
Planning: It is a process which involves setting the aims, mission statement and objectives of the
organization and how they will be achieved. Nothing can be achieved without proper planning.
Planning outlines what tasks to do, when to do it and how to perform the tasks. Planning is based

With the war going bad for the Continental Army, John Adams was sent to France to try to
convince them to give America naval help, for the U.S. s navy was very weak. After attempting
to gain naval support Adams sailed to Holland to get a loan from the Dutch. He was successful
in gaining the loan. Throughout the end of the war, Adams would try to make peace with
Britain. He was the main negotiator in this action and would be successful in creating peace
between the two countries. After the US was favored to win the war, Adams was sent back to
Paris to negotiate peace. Finally, in 1783 the Treaty of Paris was created declaring peace
between the countries. Adams also had an impact with immigrants, but the actions he took
overshadow his entire presidency. He passed an unfavorable act which is still controversial and
argued today, the Alien and Sedition Act. These acts could ve been passed in the Soviet Union
during the Cold War. Acts like these were passed during the Cold War. The acts basically took
away many rights including freedom of speech, freedom of press, lawmakers jailed, and

Desegregation In 1964 And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1964, a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, was passed in order to
ban discrimination in public places as well as strengthen the role of the federal government to end
segregation in public places. Also included in this act was the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission which was established in order to ensure racial discrimination was not occurring
within employment. The aspect of desegregation was not occurring rapidly in Southern states, such
as Alabama. Not only was desegregation not occurring quickly under the Civil Rights Act of 1964
but also the act did not address any issues with voting rights among the African American
community. The civil rights movement grew strong in southern regions especially racially tense
areas such as Selma. In the city of Selma as well as a variety of other southern regions, African
Americans were harassed when attempting to practice their fundamental rights of voting through
poll taxes and literacy tests. In 1965, only 1% of African Americans were registered to vote in
Selma but 50% of Selma s population was African American. In order to address the lack of voting
rights, Martin Luther King and the SNCC worked vigorously on setting up marches to overcome
the injustice that was occurring in Selma. Due to the overly aggressive authorities in the South, a
majority of the marches ended violently thus increasing public support for new legislation to ensure
the basic right of voting to the African American

BIOGRAPHICAL ESSAY
The instrumental music of the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 1827) forms a peak
in the development of tonal music and is one of the crucial evolutionary developments in the
history of music as a whole.
The early compositions of Ludwig van Beethoven marked the culmination of the 18th century
traditions for which Haydn and Mozart had established the great classical models, and his middle

Beethoven rapidly proceeded to make his mark as a brilliant keyboard performer and improviser
and as a gifted young composer with a number of works to his credit and powerful ambitions. He
won entry into the musical circles of the Viennese titled upper classes and gained a number of
lifelong friends and admirers among them. In 1795 his first mature published works appeared the
three Piano Trios, Op. 1 and his career was in effect officially launched. From then until the end
of his life Beethoven was essentially able to publish his works at approximately the rate at which
he could compose them, if he wished to; in consequence the opus numbers of his major works are,
with a few trivial exceptions, the true chronological order of his output. No such publication
opportunities had existed for Haydn or Mozart, and least of all for Schubert, who spent his entire
life in Vienna (1797 1828) in Beethoven s shadow, from the publication standpoint.
From 1792 to his death in 1827 at the age of 57 Beethoven lived in Vienna, essentially as a
private person, unmarried, amid a circle of friends, independent of any kind of official position
or private service. He rarely traveled, apart from summers in the countryside. In 1796 he made a
trip to northern Germany, perhaps to look over the possibilities for a post; his schedule included a
visit to the Berlin court of King Frederick William of Prussia, an amateur cellist, and the Op. 5

The Importance Of Race In Waking Up White
As a white individual that grew up in a predominantly white town, I rarely talked about race when
I was growing. The only time I typically talked about race was when we studied the Civil Rights
movement in school, and even then it was only talked about in a historical context. Consequently,
prior to this class, I assumed that racewas a biological difference of skin color and genetics. I
thought that people of other races would have a larger difference in genetic make up because race
was a genetic difference race between individuals. I then saw society using this difference as a
means to belittle certain races and favor others. However, after taking this class my
understanding of how we define race has changed dramatically. This class has proven my
assumptions wrong, and shown me that race is not biological but rather a social and historical
construct created to ensure a racial hierarchy. Debby Irving s book Waking Up White: And
Finding Myself in the Story of Race helped me to see that I never talked about race because I am
part of the dominant culture. While in her class at Wheelock College, Irving s African American
classmate spoke about how she had to talk about race because she is treated differently because of
it. (Irving, 2014).Like Irving, I have white privilege that allows me to not have to talk about race.
Consequently, I always assumed that racial differences were due to genetic variation. I found out
that this assumption was wrong when I started reading Waking

  • 2. Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century. Subtle rules and regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English and Boers prevented blacks from ever escaping the European induced living conditions. The stipulation in the Treaty of Vereeniging that schools continue to teach in Dutch, and conduct court in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Seizure Of Nasser s Nationalization Of The Suez Canal Nasser intended to use the revenue from the waterway to fund the Aswan Dam project, but it would have taken Egypt 367 years to pay for the Dam from tolls alone. The Canal only brought in a profit of $52 million and not the $100 million profit that Nasser was claiming. To the United States, the nationalization of the Canal was a convenient excuse for what was to come. To Britain and France, who felt that they owned the historical rights to the Suez Canal Company, the seizure of the canal meant that they would lose their largest colonial vestige in the region. Because there were no legal route for Britain and France to oppose Nasser s nationalization, the Egyptian President could continue to manage the canal. British Prime Minister Anthony Eden was prepared to react decisively with military action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He made passive threats that nuclear weapons would be used if the countries did not withdraw from Egypt. Although United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower felt that the Soviet Union was using the crisis as an opportunity to infiltrate the region, Eisenhower did not support military intervention in the Middle East. Eisenhower feared that the conflict would catalyze into a direct confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. During a policy meeting, Eisenhower stated, If the Soviets attack the French and British directly, we would be in war, and we would be justified in taking military action. A Third World War seemed imminent, but Eisenhower was determined to deter further conflict. At the time of the crisis, Britain was experiencing severe oil shortages and a near collapse of their banking system as a result of their military involvement. A furious Eisenhower pressured his Western ally to yield to Nasser by refusing to deliver oil or to offer any financial support until all British forces were removed from the Suez ... The article is about Jefferson who is an anthropology professor and who is interviewing his daughter and her Brazilian boyfriend how different places categorize race and ethnicity. He uses that as an example to demonstrate that there is no such thing as raceit s a way that we have categorized things. Like here in the United Stateswe see the avocado as a vegetable in Brazil they see it as a fruit and eat avocados for dinner. The article also describes hypo descent which basically organizes race with a hierarchy with whites at the top then Asians then blacks. • 5. Treasury Stock Is A Process Of Accounting Treasury stock is a process of accounting that dates back as early as 1720. The concept of treasury stock originated when companies discovered that they could sell shares at an unrealistically low price equal to par value incorporators, who in turn donated those shares back to the company. As a result these shares, which had already been issued though not outstanding could be sold at whatever the real market price was without adjusting for stated capital 2. There is however, not one securely agreed upon definition, as over the years there has been a lack of unanimity as to just what should be included under the term. One commonly accepted and simple definition was stated by late Professor Glenn of course it is a stockthat has been issued and later reacquired by the same company . Another generally accepted definition that goes into more detail was stated by Fletcher, he defines it as Treasury stock is as its name implies, it is a stock held by the corporation in its treasury to be used or disposed of by the company in the furtherance of corporate purposes, but the courts are not in accord as to how or what procedure shares of stock acquire or take on the status of treasury stock. The courts are agreed that such stock is the personal property of the corporation to be disposed of by the company on such terms as it chooses. A difference in opinion arises as to whether treasury stock is an asset or property 6. Some of the confusion regarding the nature of treasury stock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Resolution For New Year Every year my family and I count down to the new year, this year I am came up with a resolution that I can keep with myself for a long time and use it until I am out of school all the way up to collage. New Year has always seemed to be a fresh start of a new cycle, this year I hope my resolution shall be one of the best one! My new year s resolutionfor 2018 is to do better in school and to think outside the box when it comes to schoolwork. This has been something that I have been trying to reach since Middle school and I am still trying even harder to do my very best in school now. There is also still some improvements that I need to make in school, like if I do bad on a test I know for next time to study real good for that subject. However, I am going to start off this year the right way by not only setting my goal, but also making sure I achieve each and every one of them. This year I aim to focus on getting remarkable grades and staying focused in school no matter how boring and long it is. I plan to do better in school than I did in 2017. Just some things I have to stay on top of is studying and doing well on my homework no matter how long it takes. When I take tests I have to be careful and pick the best possible answer, again that s where the studying should pay off. If I am able to do everything I said then I should be sure to achieve my New Year s goal! This resolution will make me more focused and be ready for tests and homework that my teachers throw at me. If I make this change now then I will not have to worry about it in the future and I will be more on track and in good shape. Change is 100% needed in this area because I should be performing at my highest capability. Homework so far this year in most of my subjects is difficult and sometimes confusing. I am trying to get good grades in my subjects and so far I am not doing too bad but I need to do work beyond my ability. If I am having trouble my first instinct is to wait and go ask the teacher the next day, but I fell like now I should at least try my best and or ask family members for help. School is a #1 priority in my family and it can pretty much decide where you go. You could go to a great collage and have an amazing high paying job or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. An Analysis Of Stephen Pax Leonard s So You Think They Can... How many ways of referring to ice exist in the language used by the Polar Eskimos? The answer may surprise since compared to the dominant languages, in which the concept of ice is described by a single word, the Polar Eskimos have more than twenty times that number. Despite apparent uniqueness of this language, it is likely that no one will use in a relatively short time as globalization whips out minority languages leaving only a few with a chance to survive. In the essay, Death by Monoculture, Stephen Pax Leonard argues that this deprivation in the realm of languages is going to lead to a dull world (Leonard 148). But it isn t easy to determine the length of this double standard because of the scarcity of good, honest conversations and discussions about and with other men and boys throughout the book. There are many women and girls that Holden Caulfield talks about, talks to, and thinks about throughout the novel. For further analysis on his relationships with them, they can be divided into three categories: figures of authority, lovers, and family. Caulfield s own mother would have been the character of choice for the first category, but since there is a scarce amount of conversation with her we ll have to default to the next most talkative female authority figure: the mother of a fellow classmate named Ernest Morrow. He met the woman on a commuter rail heading to New York from Caulfield s school dorm in Pencey Prep in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. She initiated a conversation with him after she noticed a school sticker on one of his suitcases. They mostly discussed about the school and about Ernest Morrow s personality and behavior, and of course the usual motherly inquiry of whether or not they were friends. The Following Chapter Discusses Background Information The following chapter discusses background information on quadcopters, structural batteries, graphical user interfaces, and my research objectives. 1.1 Problem Statement The advances in electronics and lightweight materials over the last few decades have resulted in the popularization of quadcopters. Whether for recreational, military, or commercial use, people are beginning to recognize the potential of quadcopters. One company in particular that is looking to exploit the use of drones on a massive scale is Amazon through their Prime Air program. The goal of Amazon s Prime Air program is to deliver packages weighing up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less to their customers [1]. While the ultimate design or designs of the drones Amazon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike conventional airplanes, rotary winged aircrafts have a fundamental advantage in that lift and control are relatively independent of forward speed. Rotary aircrafts do not need a runway and have much more freedom and maneuverability in the air. Despite early efforts to fly using rotary winged devices as well as the mentioned advantages, the first successful flight came from a fixed wing aircraft [2]. The development of rotor technology paved the path for the creation of the quadcopter. Etienne Oehmichen successfully built the first quadrotor in 1922 called the Oehmichen No. 2. A single 120 horsepower engine powered the four rotors of this machine. However, due to a lack of control of individual rotors, the altitude and orientation could not be varied. To combat this issue, four additional propellers were attached to better direct the movement of the quadrotor [3]. Modern quadcopters do not rely on additional propellers to maneuver themselves. Instead, each rotor can be manipulated to perform virtually any aerial move. Today, quadcopters are used in many areas of industry due to their reliability, cost effectiveness and multi functionality. The most widely known uses come from photography and the military. Quadcopters are constantly seen being used in sports media coverage, recreational and professional filming, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By helping one another and being a Brother s Keeper , society could begin to reverse the homelessness problem as well as prevent it from affecting future generations. Many people who are homeless use jail as an alternative to sleeping outside especially during the winter months. They jump between shelters and jail because it is the only place for them to go. A survey conducted with 363 prisoners that have spent 5 or more consecutive nights in jail in the greater Toronto area showed that 22.9 percent of the prisoners were homeless9. When looking at all the homeless that were incarcerated 30% of them that were questioned admitted to committing a petty crime in order to get off the streets10. One fifth avoided bail to ensure that they would be in jail for as long as possible10. Before being discharged 85% of the homeless anticipated being homeless again9. This restarts the cycle which leads them to going back to jail for a few nights of food and medical service. This is not a solution to the problem as nothing is solved and people remain homeless. This war was marked as one of the biggest wars ever fought in history. Dated to go from 1337 to 1453, this war led to new weapons being created, which not only played a major role in this war, but in all of world history. The creation of these new weapons led to the end of an economic system known as Feudalism. The war also was a cause of religious conflicts in the Catholic church. Another major event that had happened during this war was the Black Plague striking the Middle East. The Hundred Years War began when Edward III, of England, assumed the right as king of France from King Philip VI. King Philip VI had not gone through with an agreement he had made with England to restore a part of Guienne, which had been taken by Charles IV. The French did not believe that an Englishmen should be ruling France, but rather wanted a French noble ruling France (Hundred Years War). In the beginning of the war, King Edward III attacked and took over Flanders, which was a marketplace for wool and cloths (Hundred Years War). Personality Traits In psychology, personality traits could be explained from many aspects, and one of them describes personality traits as categorizations of people s particular characteristics (Burger, 1997) while others hold opposite ideas that personalities are more unique and different for each individual depending on his or her peculiar life experience. The former idea relates itself to nomothetic approach, which is a quantitative approach that studies personalities that people share in common to find out a general law that applies to everyone. The nomothetic approach suggests that people show universal traits and that personality traits are consistent within humans. Performance tuning can take place from a DBA perspective, at the full database level, or from a Developer perspective, on the level of individual packages/procedures/functions and SQL queries. Before initiating performance tuning, you need to know where your performance bottlenecks are. Once a table is partitioned, it is easier and faster to access the data in the table, because a query can access just one or a group of partitions on the table, rather than accessing all of the data in the parent table. You can even specify a partitionto use in your query. Queries can also work in parallel on the table, running through multiple partitions at once, which is especially helpful if you find you can t avoid a full table scan. So, even if your partitions aren t set up logically to your query, there is a performance improvement to partitioning. There are several options for the type of partitioning you can do. One common method is to partition by a range of data, for instance a date range. This is helpful if your table has a lot of historical data, and only the newest data is normally accessed or updated, rather than accessing ALL of the historical data, you can access just the latest data. It s possible, on the other hand, that your table is usually accessed by a column with distinct values, such as a department id, in which case it might be better to use list partitioning, or you could have a composite partition, such as a range list partition, such as organizing the partitions by department id and a date. There is a drawback to partitioning in that you have to specify each of the partitions. If you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A vast majority of these late 1990s women were, even though she was less dependent on her sexuality, still rather attractive. Children are more used to the words, like mom, milk, dad, no, that are recited to them frequently. At this stage, the child associates these words to their meanings. After the age of two, there is a tremendous exploration of vocabulary (Clarke, 2009). Children accumulate thousands of words till the age of six. Initially they go for replacement of difficult terms with simple ones. This is due to their struggle with complex vocabulary. This tendency changes after six. The conventional word order, tense and grammar are grasped during these ages. By the age of four, children would be good conversationalist. Critics argue ploughing money into substance misuse diverts billions of pounds from more productive expenditure (Fordham et al, 2007). Yet investment in this area is essential for improving the prospects of future generations, especially as unknown numbers of children are subjected to hidden harm amid their home environment (ACMD, 2003). This approach tackles addictionby addressing wider contributory issues to encourage respectful and socially accepted behaviour, and individuals to eventually contribute as fully fledged members of the community (HM Gov, 2010). Despite the benefits, many are reluctant to participate within the recovery programme. Hesitancy primarily originates from the prejudicial attitude of structural forces, like government and the media, which caused substance misuse to become one of the most stigmatised conditions (Livingston et al, 2012). The role of a social worker is to minimise the impact of stigma by demonstrating that service users are accepted and worthy of assistance, boosting their morale and self esteem, and working alongside them to show that recovery is really possible. From then until the end of his life Beethoven was essentially able to publish his works at approximately the rate at which he could compose them, if he wished to; in consequence the opus numbers of his major works are, with a few trivial exceptions, the true chronological order of his output. No such publication opportunities had existed for Haydn or Mozart, and least of all for Schubert, who spent his entire life in Vienna (1797 1828) in Beethoven s shadow, from the publication standpoint. Consequently, prior to this class, I assumed that racewas a biological difference of skin color and genetics. I thought that people of other races would have a larger difference in genetic make up because race was a genetic difference race between individuals. I then saw society using this difference as a means to belittle certain races and favor others. However, after taking this class my understanding of how we define race has changed dramatically. I found out that this assumption was wrong when I started reading Waking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
