Essay on Nerds of the Football World
Nerds of the Football World
It s a typical Fall Sunday afternoon and millions of people are huddled around their televisions at
home, or at sports bars watching their local team s battle on the gridiron for football supremacy.
Meanwhile, a growing number of the most diehard football fanatics are sitting around their
computers. Why aren t they watching the game you may wonder? It s simple. A new phenomenon
called Fantasy Football is sweeping the nation.
The goal of fantasy football is to compile a group of players taken from the National Football
League (NFL) that will out perform your opponents. Each player you select earns points for doing
certain things within the real NFL game each week. Players score points by rushing for a ... Show

There are a variety of different strategies on how, and who to draft. The first time player may
look at the game and decide to simply draft who he or she thinks will score the most points, and
if they are lucky they might end up with a .500 record. The experienced player knows that it s
not only how many points the player drafted will score, but also the demand of the player.
Running backs are usually the highest in demand due to the high rate of injury at the position.
Stocking up on two or three running backs with your first several picks is a common draft
strategy. If your primary running back goes down with an injury, which will likely happen at least
once throughout any season, it s imperative to have a decent backup. While you can pick up new
players throughout the season off the waiver wire (undrafted players), it is likely that by the time
you need a new running back, no one decent will be left.
Now that you ve secured a couple of running backs it s time to start looking for your value picks.
Every draft is different, and who you choose will be decided as much by what you still need, as
by what other players have drafted. If your fellow league members start grabbing quarterbacks
early for example, you might find a premier wide receiver ripe for the picking. Don t jump on the
bandwagon and start drafting quarterbacks just because

Why Does A Teacher Need Be A Good Manager
Why does a teacher need to be a good manager ? A teacher needs to be a good manager to ensure
learning occurs. Without good management skills, learning may not be achieved and the
classroom could fall into chaos. To be a good manager in a classroom the teacher needs several
tools. These shall be explored below. The classroom is its own ecosystem. The features of this
ecosystem revolve around creating a positive atmosphere for learning (Karnovsky, 2015). However,
this does not occur overnight, it takes time and energy from the teacher and the students to develop
this atmosphere. One method to achieve this, is a student behavioral agreement. This consists of
four core concepts; student s rights and responsibilities, classroom... Show more content on

This agreement which helps create the classroom ecosystem, is also a strategy in preventing
problematic behavior. However, there are many more strategies which can be used in different
parts of the lesson to minimize and prevent misbehavior. According to Rudolf Dreikurs (Crandall,
2012), there are four goals of misbehavior. These are; attention, power, revenge and assumed
disability. To prevent this from occurring the teacher must create a classroom with a sense of
belonging, cohesive bonding and appropriate instructional skills. However, doing this does not
ensure that they will behave, it is better to assume that all students will misbehave at some point if
given the chance. When students do misbehave, teachers can employ the Bumps Model to react
appropriately to the level of misbehavior. The Bumps Model is comprised of 10 levels. The bump
is the student s escalation. It is important that the teacher can distinguish between what is effective
and ineffective to select the best method (Bennett, 1994). At Bump level one the teacher is
responding to students when they first cause a disruption, the teacher s response will be low key,
e.g.; proximity, the look, and saying the student s name. This follows Kounin (1970) slowdowns, in
which the teacher keeps flowing through the material and not letting a small misbehavior get in the
way of the teaching. The teacher s response

Why Golf Is a Sport Essay
Argumentative Essay
Why Golf Is a Sport
A matter of opinion has separated a variety of sports enthusiasts apart, due to the ongoing debate
of whether golf is a sport or simply a skill. Famed golfer Arnold Palmer declared, Golf is
deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at
the same time rewarding and maddening and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has
ever invented. (ThinkQuest.com) These words state what every athlete experiences and feels when
he/she is turning a double play, making the game winning three point shot, or throwing a hail mary
pass for a touchdown. Golfers are athletes too, they train for that big moment just like any other
athlete, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, many people object the physical exertion aspect with golf, that it does not require any. These
objectors who say golf should not be included in that defined group are ignorant to athletics and its
regulations. My definition of a sport is a competition that involves athletes who play to win within
a certain structure of rules and regulations. Anyone can be an athlete; they do not have to be
good to play a sport, as long as they try with some effort. A sport requires certain qualities of an
individual too that it can not be without. Hand eye coordination is vital to every sport out there. A
basketball player has to shoot the ball into the hoop, a football player has to throw the ball to an
open receiver, a baseball player has to swing a bat to hit a 95 mile per hour fastball, and golfers
have to swing their club and hit a tiny ball a couple hundred yards. It is the number one aspect
that is required in all sports. Although it is common to associate sports with many other qualities.
The manly qualities of other sports such as cheerleaders and fights usually are not included in
golf, some figure because it is missing these qualities, that it should not even be considered a
sport. Cheerleaders are important to sports. They keep the crowd excited; they keep the
participants enthused about winning; and they give you something else to look at when the action
on the field of play grinds to a halt. With golf there s not a lot of

The Downfall Of My Family
There is no pain quite as severe and longlasting as the pain of divorce. Nothing will ever compare
to the sting and agony of watching your beloved family fall victim to a plague that you are
helpless to fix. All you can hope to do is to stand by idly as everything you have ever loved turns
to ash before your eyes. From the nights of holding my sisters weeping head in my arms, to the
nights where I struggle to hold up my own, the evil that is divorce is all destroying and has
changed my life in ways that cannot be comprehended. However, just as a phoenix rises from the
ashes of his destruction, one can rise above the deep gloomy trenches of depression after the
storm of divorce. It all comes down to how you bounce back and learn from it. The downfall of my
familyhad a long lasting effect on me and is still present even today, This being said, the one
lesson that has carried me through the years is this: What does not kill me will only make me
stronger in the days to come. My home was built upon the founding family virtues of love,
happiness, laughter, and compassion. However, the foundation it was built upon was made of
sand, destined from the start to be sucked in below to the depths of failure. How can any home
hope to prosper without a stable foundation? The answer is that it simply cannot. That was strike
one of the downfall of my family in the late year of 2012. The pink and red bricks, rose garden and
neatly trimmed grass mocked our family for what we would never be;

Reduce The Prison Population Essay
In the U.S, five percent of the population is behind bars (Collier). State spending on corrections is
estimated at $52 billion a year with most spent on prisons ( The Potential of Community
Corrections to Improve Safety and Reduce Incarceration ). The reason for the U.S. prison
population increase is because we are sending people to prisonfor more time and also because of
drugs and we have focused on drug dealing and drug possession (Neyfakh). The U.S. Justice
System imprisons a lot of people who could have been held accountable in the community like
people with addictions or mental illnesses that don t have access to treatment in their community (

Ten to twenty five percent of US prisoners suffer from serious mental illnesses such as affective

state prison and 18 percent of people in federal prison have reported committing their crimes to

countries are moving to shift the burden from institutional to community corrections by sending a
number of offenders to supervision agencies ( The Potential of Community... pg. 2). Community

good source of a positive change ( The Potential od Community... 4). Community corrections

Soviet Imperialism And The Soviet Union
The United States and the Soviet Union operated as associates and fought against the Nazi
regime during World War II, however, the merger did not last long and ultimately became the
Cold War. Americans had for some time been careful about Soviet socialism and worried about
Russian pioneer Joseph Stalin s overbearing, ruthless guideline of his own nation. As far as
concerns them, the Soviets loathed the Americans decades long refusal to regard the USSR as a
real part of the universal group and also their postponed section into World War II, which brought
about the passing of a huge number of Russians. After the war ended, these grievances aged into a
staggering feeling of shared doubt and animosity. After the war, Soviet expansionism in Eastern
Europe drove numerous Americans fears of a Russian arrangement to control the world. In the
meantime, the USSR came to disdain what they saw as American authorities pugnacious talk, arms
development and the interventionist way to deal with global relations. In such an unfriendly air, no
single gathering was total to fault for the Cold War; truth be told, a few history specialists trust it
was unavoidable (History.com, 2009)
When the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, president George H. W. Bush through his secretary of
state James Baker promised Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev that in exchange for Soviet
cooperation on German reunification, the Cold War era NATO union would not increase one inch .
Baker stated, Look, if you

Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan Age is the time period associated with the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558
1603) and is often considered to be a golden age in English history. It was an age considered to
be the height of the English Renaissance, and saw the full flowering of English literature and
English poetry. In Elizabethan theater, William Shakespeare, among others, composed and staged
plays in a variety of settings that broke away from England s past style of plays. It was an age of
expansion and exploration abroad, while at home the Protestant Reformation was established and
successfully defended against the Catholic powers of the Continent. The Elizabethan Age is viewed
so highly because of the contrasts with the periods before and after. It was... Show more content on

There followed several long years of breathless suspense; then in 1588 the Armada sailed and
was utterly overwhelmed in one of the most complete disasters of the world s history. Thereupon
the released energy of England broke out exultantly into still more impetuous achievement in
almost every line of activity. The great literary period is taken by common consent to begin with
the publication of Spenser s Shepherd s Calendar in 1579, and to end in some sense at the death
of Elizabeth in 1603, though in the drama, at least, it really continues many years longer. Several
general characteristics of Elizabethan literature and writers should be indicated at the outset. 1.
The period has the great variety of almost unlimited creative force; it includes works of many
kinds in both verse and prose, and ranges in spirit from the loftiest Platonic idealism or the most
delightful romance to the level of very repulsive realism. 2. It was mainly dominated, however,
by the spirit of romance. 3. It was full also of the spirit of dramatic action, as befitted an age
whose restless enterprise was eagerly extending itself to every quarter of the globe. 4. In style it

As part of the festivities, a firkin of the Farmhouse Ale was tapped by Carnival Vice President of
Beverage Operations Edward Allen. Out of the four, the Farmhouse was my favorite. It had just
enough barnyard funk to keep me coming back for more. The malts for the Smoked Porter are
smoked on board using the ships smoker. The smoke wasn t overpowering and I think it will
pair nicely with the smoked BBQ. The West Coast IPA is hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, and
Centennial hops. While the aroma and taste of pine and citrus begin to blast your senses it
finishes with a malty backbone. The refreshing Toasted Amber Ale gives off notes of lite
caramel and biscuity malts. I m sure all four offerings will be welcomed with open arms aboard
the Horizon. While they are all tasty in their own right, I think the flavor profile was dialed back a
touch to appeal to a wider audience. Craft beer drinkers will be able to appreciate each beer while
folks new to craft will also be able to enjoy a freshly brewed craft beer with their BBQ

November 7, 2014 In United States history, there have been few inventions that have completely
astonished the whole nation; the personal computer was one of them. The introduction of the IBM
Personal Computer in the United States created a novel, profound interest in technology in the
1980s. PC Magazine from February 1982 indicated that technology was slowly improving around
that time, but the personal computer took a giant leap into the future and lead to various new

They followed this up with, We have a lot of things to do, so let s do them in parallel. We will
have our legal team meet with your legal team, we ll have our purchasing team meet with your
purchasing team, and we ll have our technical team meet with your technical team. IBM was
thrilled to work with Bill Gates and Microsoft, but there was a limiting factor. Since Microsoft
was only starting up, there were not many people in the company and Bill Gates handled almost
every department. Personal computer software was a very new industry, which explained the lack
of employment; however, the employees in it were extremely enthusiastic about it. Even though
Bill Gates had to negotiate with all of IBM s departments, he wasn t discouraged; he even offered
to meet with two departments simultaneously in order to accomplish more in the one year limit.
IBM and Microsoft did not want to create a mediocre computer. They even stated, The second
priority beyond getting it done in a year was to have a state of the art machine. They wanted to end
with a machine that topped every other machine that had been created before, but they only had one

Famine, Affluence, And Morality By Peter Singer
In his essay Famine, Affluence, and Morality moral philosopher Peter Singer (2013) argues that
affluent individuals morally ought to provide an assistance to absolutely poor people up to the
point when further giving requires them to sacrifice anything of comparable moral significance.
He relies on the example with drowning child when proving that we should accept his strong
principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening without thereby
sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, we ought, morally, to do it (Singer 2013,
647). There are a lot of objections attempting to show that this example is not a good analogy to
the international aid case. If any of them manage to do so, then the Singer s... Show more content on

Singer is focused on ethics and therefore his argumentation is not vulnerable to psychological or
sociological criticism discussed above. However, it can still be an important issue for practical
ethicist to consider if people will actually stick to his principle after they accept that it is morally
right. Singer must have understood that many people will probably find the his strong principle
too demanding or counter intuitive and will not follow it. To solve this problem he has worked
out the moderate version of the principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something very
bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything morally significant, we ought, morally,
to do it (Singer 2013, 647). This principle is more plausible for human nature as it leaves some
space for individual s personal interests. It is less ambitious and does not promote absolute equality
of welfare and resources. Singer himself agreed that in order to do the maximum to reduce absolute
poverty, we should advocate a standard lower (Singer 1993, 245). However, I think that the weak
principle Singer proposes is a bit shaky because anything morally significant is determined by
subjective judgment and can indeed be morally incorrect sometimes. For instance, in the case of
drowning child I am no

Adv. Nursing. Introduction Nursing theory is a belief, policy, procedure proposed or followed as

Nursing theories have also made their influence on patient care and outcome. The theory I have
chosen to treat in this paper is Roy s adaptation Model. The Roy s model is about adaptation. It has
four key concepts, the person, health, environment and nursing. The Roy s adaptation model states
a person is a bio psych social being in constant interaction with a changing environment. The
adaptation has two subsystems. First the cognator subsystem which is a major coping process
involving four cognitive emotive channels: perceptual and information processing, learning,
judgment, and emotion. And secondly the regulator subsystem which is a basic type of adaptive
process that responds automatically through neural, chemical, and endocrine coping channels.
ANALYSIS OF NURSING THEORY Nursing theories have been a major contributor to nursing
education, it has helped create a focus. Nursing theories have also helped healthcare professional,
managers and patients make unique contributions to health care. According to Im, E. Chang, S.J.
(2012) Believing that the trends of focusing on specifics in theoretical works, close linkage to
research, and integration to practice are positive in the sense that the close linkage to research could

Evidence In Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost is a documentary that tells the story of three teenage boys that were accused of

The Cultural And Social Behavior Of A Society
The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore,
when doing world mission we must be able to relate to the culture in which we are ministering to.
We are not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that
particular culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave
who escaped from Ireland and later returned as a missionary. Being that he understood the people
and their language, their issues, and their ways , served as a channel for the people to easily
receive from him. Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that
particular group, and being able to understand the group in which you are ministering to is very
essential in doing missionwork. You have to be careful how you approach people and when you
do be conscious of how you engage unbelievers. In conclusion, cultural simply refers to relations.
On the other hand, this particular question is referring to the negative fallouts (listed in the text)
as results to decisions missionaries have made overtime. Should those missionaries be
representatives of all missionaries? In my opinion, the spread of Christianity, as I refer to as the
period of missionary work, has had a major, positive influence on the world in many, many ways.
Some missionaries may be looked upon as bringing about negative change and some are looked
upon as bringing about positive change. I believe it

The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis
Brissa Martinez
ENGL 1302 001
Short story analysis
September 12, 2016
The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows
the both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use
of irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the
word casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will
be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the
victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious
trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to
have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol.
Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival
is usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves
to indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It
is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality
or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the
excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his
situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is
masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him
the fine wine, disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed
as a jester. The irony stands in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he
removes his mask, once he shows his face and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs.
This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides
his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato,
even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. Fortunato on the
other hand is portraying himself as a fool in the outfit he is wearing already. It is

Interpreter Of Maladies Essay
Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of fictional short stories by highly acclaimed author Jhumpa
Lahiri. The book illustrates the lives of first and second generation Indian immigrants as they face
the challenges and struggles of living a culturally conflicted life in the United States. Lahiri herself
was a part of an immigrant household. She was born in London in 1967. Her mother and father
were both immigrants from India. They moved to the United Stateswhen she was two years old.
Because her mother wanted her to grow up aware of her Indian, specifically Bengali, heritage and
traditions, they frequently visited their relatives in Calcutta. Although Interpreter of Maladies is
considered fictional, critics suggest that it is also autobiographical because most of them are
adapted from her friends , parents , and acquaintances lives. This paper will focus on three specific
stories in the book namely: When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine, Mrs. Sen s, and The Third and Final
Continent. The aforementioned stories deal with the struggles and challenges faced by most
immigrants, specifically, how they deal with the clashing cultures of their old heritage and their
new world. Lahiri s Interpreter of Maladies illustrates that although migration entails struggles and
sacrifices, the expatriate characters decided to move to a foreign land because of their hopes for a
better future, but the strong sense of attachment to their Indian heritage made it difficult for some

interpreting signs from nature so you can access information about your enemy without even seeing
them. Additionally thought over is the ability to read and analyze body language of your opposing
team to understand their current status so you can prepare your own side. Finally, the ability to
understand human mentality of your own side in order to get the best results from your own troop
is discussed. Thus, by understanding these effects to actions, how nature reacts to human contact,
how soldiers react to being weakened, and how your team reacts to upper rule, as a result one is

Driving Under The Influence Of Drunk Driving
Driving under the influence (DUI), in numbers
Over 1.1 million drivers were arrested in 2014 for driving under the influence of alcohol or
narcotics.1 In the same year, 9,967 people died in drunk driving crashes while 290,000 were
injured.2 Lest we forget, these dry statistics represent real people.
Evidently, drunk driving remains to be one of the notorious banes in the society. Fortunately, this is
not without recourse. Organizations such as MADD3 and ridesharing platforms like Uber4 have
been working toward ensuring that drunk drivers have more options and access to safe rides.

Judith Butler Is Still Alive Today
Born in 1956, Judith Butler is still alive today. Not only is she a philosopher, she is also a gender
theorist who has influenced may areas such as: political philosophy, ethics, and fields in feminist,
queer, and literary theory. Butler is currently working at University of California, Berkeley
teaching Comparative Literature and Critical Theory. She has written many books that revolve
around gender and these books have been looked upon fondly by feminists. Precarious Life was
written in 2005. This book is made up of five essays that detail what our ethical responsibilities
should be and how we are obligated to others. Throughout Precarious Life, Butler discusses issues of

We center on the first world perspective. Feelings of invulnerability lead to fantasy of
omnipotence (9). Conflation of exploration and exoneration leads to the conception of
responsibility. This includes isolating the event and conceptualizing rationality. Responsibility is
the juncture of being acted on and acting. This causes the response. There is some basis of
political community. Violence and vulnerability can be led to the exploitation of the ties we have
with one another (27). Butler wants to say that we are always vulnerable. Butler wants to
complicate the picture of autonomy. The narrative of autonomy leads to violence and stratification
which in turn leads to dehumanization and derealation. We need to become aware of this process
to understand our relationships. When we mention the narrative of autonomy we are speaking
about the body. The body is both a site of private and public spheres. Most people see the body as
only being in the private sphere but in reality, the body is constantly being regulated an example
being like what clothes are appropriate to wear to different occasions. Butler wants to relate this to
the relationships we have with legitimate power. Butler uses Focult s idea of sovereignty and
governmentality. Sovereignty is seen as representative. It is an individualized, concentrated power
that involves decision making. Governmentality on the other hand revolves around the process of
law.

Reflection On Gender Socialization
Through this gender socialization exercise of analyzing how children learn about gender, provides
a sense of social structures and institutions are organized, created, and maintained in society. After
visiting a department store that separates children s clothes and toys by gender it gave me an eye
opening view how society shapes children s mind of what is acceptable for their own gender, and
how these patterns create an inequality between each group. From this group exercise, there was a
obvious division discussed between the two genders in terms of clothingand toys on a daily basis as
these children grow up with these patterns. It was such a normal thing to see that many overlook
and never really thought about the long terms effects it has on young children. While discussing
with my group about patterns that girls clothing are brighter and bolder in color that incorporate
shapes like hearts with an additional component of glitter and sequins. As for boys, there are
limited to minimal pieces with darker, and neutral colors that are made with better material.
Girls toys can be easily spotted in aisles, covered in pinks and purples; tons of dolls, and disney
princesses. Boys had a variety of vehicles and tools that can be utilized for indoors and outdoor
playing. As we further discussed about each question, I was surprised how much of an
inequality there actually is, but society is moving towards change and is overcoming the gender
challenges that one would not necessarily be acceptable in the past. I learned how much of an
impact these social structures are applied at a young age and is carried throughout as these
children grow up with these aspects. Child development is very important through observations
of what is socially acceptable and how these patterns shape who they are as they become adults.
For girls, there are more opportunities to dress up, through the variations of clothing. As applied
to toys, not only girls just have a doll to play with, but accessories that go along with it such as a
doll house, and dress up accessories. Girls develop to become more nurturing and are encouraged
to be indoors, conforming to the stay at home wife that cleans, and has food on the table when the

Voltaire s Use Of Satire In Candide
In his novel Candide, Voltaire attacks a plethora of philosophies, religions, and groups. Through
the book s tragic adventure, Voltaire satirizes nearly every character that Candide encounters in
order to reveal the absurdities of the Enlightenment Era in which Voltaire lives. He uses several
means of satire to reveal the foolishness of various ideas and the absurdity of following any one
idea to an extreme extent. Through his work, Voltairehopes to expose the reader to the irrationality
and vices of the world in which he lives, while using literary techniques to illuminate his claims.
The most ubiquitous literary technique used by Voltaire is exaggeration. Voltaire includes plenty
of hyperboles that serve to subtly attack his adversaries by poking satirical fun at their beliefs. We

He does this to ridicule different people and ideas, while also providing historical context for the
reader to relate to. Voltaire became frustrated by the wrongdoing and unexplainable disasters that
he observed in the world. One of the real world disasters that Voltaire included in Candidewas the
horrific earthquake in Lisbon in 1755. Thousands of people died during this tragic earthquake.
Voltaire highlights the corruption of people in times of disaster, and the recurrence of Pangloss s
blind optimism. Voltaire shows the sailor (who was just saved by the Anabaptist) recklessly
diving into the rubble of the earthquake searching for money. The sailor then gets drunk and pays
a woman for sex (Voltaire 33). Pangloss then argues that For all this (the earthquake) is a
manifestation of the rightness of things . . . for it is impossible for things not to be where they are,
because everything is for the best (Voltaire 35). The sailor s actions and Pangloss s words articulate
Voltaire s view that through Optimism, everything is

Tree Stump Removal
Tree stumps are an inevitable part of owning property with trees. After a tree is downed,
homeowners often decide to leave the stumps in the ground, either to reduce tree removal costs, or
clean up efforts. However, doing so can actually end up costing you more in landscaping and home
maintenance. Here are 5 reasons homeowners should consider a treestump removal service in
Wilmington.
Stumps Can be Safety Hazards
Making sure the home and surrounding areas are free from safety issues should be high on any
property owner s priority list. As innocent as low cut stumps may appear, they can actually create
hazards for both adults and children because they are easily hidden behind shrubs and grass.

Termites, carpenter ants. and other wood boring insects quickly move into the rotting stumps.
Insects play a major role in decomposing and are vital to a health ecosystem; however, insects can
spread into surrounding trees, and buildings, causing thousands of dollars worth of property
damage. Removing the stump reduces these pests and the risk to the home.
Saplings Can Grow From The Stump
Particularly important when the tree was removed due to space or drainage issues, when left in the
yard, stumps may grow new saplings. New growth, while slow and steady, will revert the yard to
the same circumstances that led to the removal to begin with. Removing the stump minimizes the
risks of a new tree causing the same problems.
Difficult Landscaping Upkeep
Stumps create unique challenges when it comes to maintenance and landscaping. Mowing and
weed control can become difficult, especially for large and oddly shaped stumps. Simple upkeep
can also take a lot longer than if the stump was removed, causing property owners to abandon other
projects to maintain the space around the stump, or allow the stump to become over grown, which

amount of involvement and the amount of tasks that he is assigned.
Relevant Background Tony Blair, a former prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to
2007, is believed to be disliked by Palestinians due to his closeness with Israel. His closeness with
Israel is because of previous discussions with a pro Israel lobby group, Labour Friends of Israel.

United States, United Nations, European Union, and Russia. His job was to seek a peace

their independence in 1948 and received the land that already belonged to Palestine. Hamas said
that any proposal for a long term truce with Israel would be brought to the attention of other
Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip. Blair is acting as a broker to obstruct matters and we don t

change in Israeli policy. The Palestinians detested many of Blair s plans because they were

The Performance Of A Company

The performance of a company is based on multiple internal factors and the most important one, lies
on the day to day operations of the business. It comes down to maximizing profit and minimizing

the key component of economic growth, is productivity. Low productivity can affect income, hence

The movie opens with prisoners singing Po Lazarus which sets the scene that the movie will
have a focus on the music instead of it just being in the background. Next, as the trio is trying to
get on the train to stowaway and get away from the police, Big Rock Candy Mountain is in the
background but is meant to be heard loud and clear. It is an upbeat folk song by Harry
McClintock from 1928 about his hobo days. This is fitting for Everett, Pete, and Delmar s
current situation. All of the music in the movie is either traditional or from the Great
Depression era. The music selections help to authenticate the movie for the era more than the
realness of the story based on an epic poem. Man of Constant Sorrow is what the men sing to
Mr. Lund to get money; he loves the song and has it played on numerous radio stations. The
song is a foundation to the film as it is sung twice and in the background two more times as an
instrumental version. This is important with movies in general to have a song to connect the
movie to and a movie to connect a song. The movie almost feels like musical at some points only
except that no one breaks out in song. When Everett and the others go to his house to get Penny
s ring, they are met by Sheriff Cooley and his gang that are ready to hang them for escaping

singing O Death and give an eerie feeling to the scene. The plot of the film also contributes greatly

Arranged Marriages And Love Marriages

Arranged Marriage:
In the broadest sense, marriages have been divided into two general categories; arranged
marriages and love marriages. As the name implies, an arranged marriage is defined as a marriage
where the bride and groom are exclusively selected by a third party (usually their parents), while in
a love marriage, people choose their marital partners based on their feelings or attraction for one
another. In America and Western Europe, marriages based on love, have dominated their
cultures for a long time and, as a result, when it comes to arranged marriages, most American s
first reaction would be: Oh! This kind of marriage is so relentless and incredible, because we
have no voice. However, times are changing, and so is the attitude toward marriage. America is a
melting pot, which means it is a multicultural society, and there are so many immigrants from other
countries in America. Due to international migration, both arranged marriages and love marriages
have co existed in peace and affected each other. Although some argue that arranged couples don t
have a choice in choosing their life partner, we can t deny the benefits of arranged marriages, as it
can help them obtain full and complete support from their families, better understand each other
and provide a high possibility for a successful and happy marriage.
First of all, an arranged marriage can help the bride and the groom gain the acceptance and support

What Is The First Cause Argument
The first cause argument is based on cause and effect, it attests that the universe must have a cause,
and that this cause is God. The first cause argument is also known as the cosmological argument.
The universe could not have come into being without something that started it. Therefore, this
argument does show that God exists. This essay will analyse the first cause argument, provide proof
of why God is shown that he exists by the first cause argument and, explore the objections and
counter objections that people have when it comes to this argument.
The first cause argument shows the existence of God through the statement that the universe must
have a cause and as result, it is impossible for there to be an infinite cycle of causes so therefore,
God exists because he is the first cause. The strength of this argument is that it indicates the need
for something in order for there to be a beginning, but why conclude that this Something is God? I

We have the gift of existence, and our existence was attained from our causes. If things and
people came into existence using their own nature without it being passed down to them through
other people there would be no need for a first cause but, people do not exist from their own
nature which means that they have a cause which goes to show that there is Indeed a first cause
and that this cause must be God. The universe only has beings that do not exist on their own
essence, that are not eternal or necessary, all beings in the universe need a cause. Beings that are
not self explanatory, eternal or necessary are called dependent or contingent. Furthermore, a being
who is self explanatory is called a necessary being. Dependent beings need causes. If the

Social Stigma Of Race
Race and Ethnicity
What is a social stigma? A social stigma is disapproval of a person or group based on
characteristic grounds that are perceived, and serve to distinguish them. The social stigma of race
is a worldwide problem, in which I think everyone I have encountered has had some kind of racial
slur thrown at him or her. Living on the Cheyenne Reservation this is one critical issue among
everyone, including elders and teens.
Some people may ask the question why are social stigmas bad? . The answer is, not all are. There
are social stigmas of incest and child abuse. If the stigmas did not happen, some pretty cruel and
unusual things would happen. However, not all stigmas relate in the same way. The problem of
racism is a widely known problem. Everyone knows the slang people use nowadays such as Nigga .

There are factors that can perhaps affect organic growth. If a business is aiming for rapid
expansion it may not find organic growth worthwhile. Rapid expansion could mean that a company
is looking to get into the market with a view of making big profits. This would require an injection
of outside finance to support rapid growth. On the contrary to organic growth is inorganic growth.
Inorganic growth is much more
dynamic and responsive, involves less time as compared to organic and more finance. Inorganic
growths strategies like mergers, acquisition, spinoffs and takeovers are regarded as important
factors that help companies expand, cut competition, increase customer base, employ new
technology and increase in size fairly quickly. The company results in achieving substantial growth

The Persian War Was A Series Of Wars
The Persian War was a series of wars fought amongst the great empire of Persia and the coalition of
the Greek city states, and lasted for twenty one years. The Ionian city states protested against
Persian rule, and expended their satraps and asserted their independence, which was the start of the
Ionian Revolt. Later, Darius promised to have revenge on Athens and Eretria for their revolt against
the Achaemenid empire. After the revolt Darius proclaim his rule, but it becomes more
challenging for him to sustain control. In attempt to cease future rebellion and get revenge for
their insubordination, Darius attacks, in hopes of expanding his control into Greece and
acquiring the wealth of the Greek and city states. In the mid sixth century, the Ionian Greeks had
originally lost their independences to King Croesus of Lydia (Lindsey 11). Croesus wanted to
attack a territory in Anatolia that was previously in the Median kingdom, so he consulted with an
Oracle for advice about invading a territory the Persian wanted to claim. Consequently, he lost all
of his territory including Ionia to Cyrus, Persian king because he did not listen to the Oracle
instructions (Martin 127). By 499 B.C., the Ionians started a revolt against the Greek tyrants
because they were not happy about being ruled by someone else (Lindsey 11). An Ionian leader
traveled to mainland Greece seeking military aid for the rebellion. The Peninsular Greeks joined in
and helped the Ionian city. According to Ancient

Current Sources Of The State Of Indonesia
In Indonesia, petroleum is one of the main sources of the state revenues. It is also a very important
strategic commodity and often as political issue. The revenues from oil and gas have driven the
economic growth and contributed significantly for the development of Indonesia. In the world,
legislations which regulate oil and gas are varies from country to country. In spite of many
variations, in general, the upstream oil and gas activities, based on two systems, the production
sharing contracts and the licensing systems. Indonesia was the country that introduced the concept
of production sharing contracts in 1966 (Bindemann, 1999).
After the verdict of Indonesian Constitutional Court in 2012 on The Oil and Gas Law, some of the
articles were unconstitutional and not legally binding. As a result, the government and the
parliament want to revise the oil and gas law and led to the ideas of replacing the production
sharing contract with the licensing system. Nevertheless, before Indonesia adopts the new system,
many aspects should be considered in designing legislations. Some of the aspects are the concept of
natural resources ownership, revenues for the state, and attractiveness for the investors.
Mean while, as the owner of natural resources, the government has the rights to control and regulate
petroleum resources. The government would also have to balance its demand for maximizing the

Gross Domestic Product Is The Value Of Goods Produced And...
Gross Domestic Product, also known as GDP, is defined as the value of goods produced and
services provided in a country during one year. Gross Domestic Product is important in the culture
of economics because in the United States, we use it to measure the well being of the economy.
Gross Domestic Product is measured in quarters, there are four quarters in one economic year. Say
the Gross Domestic Productis down 10% in Quarter One and then in Quarter Two the Gross
Domestic Product has gone up by 15%. You subtract 15% from 10% and then you are left with
5%. Therefore, the economy, or the Gross Domestic Product, has grown by 5% since the last
quarter. If the Gross Domestic Product was never measured, we as Americans would not know if
the economy was growing, shirking, or staying the same.
On news channels like FOX News, FOX Business Network, CNN, and MSNBC we hear them
talking about the nation s economy and the gross domestic product all the time. On shows like

The Causes And Effects Of The United States
Imagine strolling to the local grocery store, taking a morning run, or merely gathering the daily mail
wearing a mask as a shield against gassy smog. Think about the terror that strikes some people when
they turn on their faucets only to see a string of tainted, brown solution. Pollution affects thousands
of human individuals, animals, forests, cities, and ecosystems. With shocking effects and
staggering statistics, our water sources, the air we breathe, and the land upon which we live suffer
from this plague. Unfortunately, the causes and effects of this universal dilemma deteriorate the
health and well being of all life forms on earth.
Although land, light, and noise pollution leave their mark on this planet, air and water pollution

Analyzing Wallace s Theory Of Natural Selection
Wallace and his line
Charles Darwin has credit with the theory of natural selection in the history books, however there
was another person Alfred Russell Wallace who came to the same conclusion. He was of plebian
descent and had no reservations about going against the doctrines of the Church of England. He,
like Darwin, had similar questions about species variation, diversity, and fitness; he decided to seek
out the answers in his travels. Wallace s theory of evolution came from his experiences and
observations in the unexplored islands of the Malay Archipelago specifically Borneo, Bali,
Lombok, and New Guinea and Australia. Although Wallace s journey began in Singapore, Borneo
became the stepladder to defining his first law. He combines geology and natural history to
hypothesize that species connect in space and time to a closely allied predecessor. Further
explaining that these connections are dendritic with extant species outermost and with extinct
closely allied species innermost. Whenever branching occurs, new species form from the common
branch or closely allied species. He simply argues that if the earth chang es, why species wouldn t

islands, and this wasn t surprising. What startled Wallace was Lombok s wildlife! Lombok is
located about 32 kilometers east of Bali, has identical geologic and environmental conditions,

Traveling further east, his findings were all species similar to Lombok and not Bali. He states that
there is a boundary act ing between these islands, but is uncertain

Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things
Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected
What the Internet of Things is and how it works
The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication
connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each
other using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual
construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication
for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then
the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to
provide a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to
improve the efficiency of their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete
complex decision making tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations
(Pye, 2014).
Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with
the development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol
version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the
number of IP addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate
over the vast network (Pye, 2014).

Ancient Civilization Sculpture Essay
1. Bronze statuette of Aphrodite
Date: late 2nd or 1st century B.C.Culture: Greece This statue of Aphrodite shows the dedication
the Greeks had to their gods. The bronze goddess, holding her right arm in the air, gives off a
powerful attitude. As the pose itself of the statue is not bland and more active, it gives the
impression that this was created during the classical period of Greece when sculpture began having
more relaxed, natural poses. The lack of more painstaking muscle and bone structure probably
places it in the earlier part of the classical period though. What is most intriguing about the
sculpture is the white eyes she is given that, in the face of a more natural, realistic human form, the
eyes seem to retain an essence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The materials used were alabaster and limestone. The figure itself is roughly cut with clasped
praying hands, unproportional body and shoulder sizes, and large unnatural eyes. Again, this lack
of realism is significant to the time; the focus was not on the realistic portrayal of who it was
fashioned for, but what ritual and religious purpose it served.
4. Limestone grave relief with two sphinxes Date: late 5th century B.C.Culture: Greece The
sphinxes were popular mythical creatures, playing their part in myths and legends and stories
throughout time including the story of Oedipus, and the riddle of the sphinx. The beauty of the
sphinx in this piece shows how much was passed around throughout Western culture. Egypt also
memorialized the sphinx through wall art and sculpture, and this continuation (despite the
nonexistence of the sphinx as a real creature) shows how much truly does carry on throughout
history. This relief piece has subtle dimension, making it low relief rather than high relief.
5. Terracotta statuette of a standing woman Date: late 4th century B.C.Culture: Greek, Corinthian
The woman, with the delicately draped clothing gives off a very natural, realistic impression. The
painstakingly specific cuts of the woman s clothes look so realistic the way they drape over her
body. The Hellenistic era was very focused on making sculpture perfect from all angles

Dr. John s Wort
Imagine standing on a roof, envisioning nothing but your limp body laying at the bottom of all
those stories, blinded to everything else by the protracted agony of crippling depression. Only
someone who has lived this nightmare can explain to an outsider the reason they might jump, or
the reason so many die by their own hands pulling a gun trigger or tying a special knot in a rope.
Lamently, for 350 million people worldwide, depression is all too familiar ( Depression ). Even
more unfortunate are the treatment options for depression: prescription drugs have troublesome
side effects and can be costly, reflecting on the unconscious problems of your life in psychotherapy
might prolong feelings of depression, and shock therapies are dangerous... Show more content on

John s Wort, thus activating brain neurotransmission and counteracting depression. Other scientists
argue that hyperforin and hypericin concentrations in common supplement dosages are too low to
penetrate the brain deeply enough to influence brain neurotransmission (Enna and Norton).
Experimental conclusions do little to clarify. One study, quoted by scientist Amitara Dasgupta,
demonstrated that St. John s Wort worked better than a placebo in treating depression with
response rates as high as 1.97 in nine small trials and 1.28 in nine large trials. Furthermore, when
compared against prescription SSRI s, St. John s Wort treated depression as effectively with
response rates as high as 1.02 in five trials and 1.00 in another 12 trials (Dasgupta). Another study,
conducted by the United States National Institutes of Health, found the patient s response to St.
John s Wort no more effective than the placebo. Surprisingly, in this same experiment, the
prescription antidepressants used as a control also failed to display a statistically significant
benefit in treating depression (Enna and Norton). This particular study took place in 1993, but
even today scientists are unable to determine the efficacy of St. John s Wort as a treatment of
depression. Instead, results vary so widely that they are inconclusive. Of course, this is a problem
itself. Why is it so difficult for scientists all around the globe to get

How To Write A Spanish Essay
Planning to write a Spanish essay because you think is easier? Spanish and English are two of the
most spoken languages in the world, which have differences and similarities in writing. Despite that
both languages use the same alphabet, Spanish has more difficult writing mechanics such as
punctuation rule, noun s gender and quantity, and verb conjugation that make writingan essay more
laborious. First, Spanish has a complicated punctuation rule because it uses diacritic acute (Вґ)
which can change meaning of words if you don t use it, for example, the words vino (wine in
English) and vinГі (past tense of the verb come in 3rd. person). In fact, if you don t use diacritic
acute correctly, you show your bad education in writing. Another Spanish s punctuation rule is the
use of double exclamation and question marks in the beginning and the end of sentences, for
example, ВїQuГ© paso?,ВЎHola! In contrast, English doesnВґt use diacritic acute in writing and
uses one exclamation and question mark in the sentence s ending, for instance, What happened?, Hi!

Abortion Policy in America
Abortion Policy in America Obama is a historic president for a variety of reasons, all of which
have nothing to do with his skin color. Many of the policies that the nation has undertaken or
transformed during his presidency have much to do with Obama s bravery and inherent sense
of right and wrong values which have continued to color his presidency. For example, in 2009
with President Obama on Friday repealed the Mexico City policy, a controversial Reagan era
measure that withheld funding to foreign aid organizations that perform abortions or refer
women to abortion providers, which had been rescinded by President Clinton and re instituted
by President Bush... The decision shows that Mr. Obama will deliver on his campaign promises
to be one of the most pro choice presidents in modern history...Rachel Laser, with the progressive
group Third Way, said Mr. Obama s decision was a life affirming, common ground policy that
must transcend abortion politics. (Ward, 2009). This legislative move was not simply the right
thing to do: it was a breath of fresh air. Abortion groups had long been aware that it was next to
impossible for them to push their legislative goals during the eight years that President George W.
Bush was in office. However, with greater amounts of Democrats in both Congress and the White
House, pro abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro Choice America are currently
having a more promising time in making contact with lawmakers and being heard. In

Digital Television Conversion Essay example
Digital Television Conversion If you are not connected to cable TV or have a non digital
television, be prepared to either throw it out or convert it into a fish tank. With the increase in
technology, the television medium is becoming a more advanced system and is incorporating new
standards for their networks and customers. Digital cableis more popular than ever and is being
used to launch new capabilities in a couple of years. On February 17th, 2009 all over the air
televisionstations are converting to a digital signal. This means televisions that are analog and

The converters will be offered at an estimated price of $50.00, but Senator John Ensign believes
that we can have some kind of a program, though [he s] not sure what it will look like, for those
low income people who say they need a subsidy (http://www.news.com). This will help relieve
some of the money constraints most citizens are concerned about when faced with this radical
change in technology. They do not want to pay more in order to receive their television shows
believing it is unfair to them since they already pay a high amount. They are also concerned
because since it is a government issued change, they do not believe it is fair to charge the public
for something they have no control over.
Although many people will have to either buy a new set or buy a digital box, not all televisions
will require a converter. Many companies are saying that Cable customers should see no disruption
in service... if their technicians are permitted to use a method called down conversion (http:/
/www.news.com). In this process, the companies rewire the signal making the conversion occur
along the cable wires instead of in each individual home. This will relieve tension on the consumer
s end and enable the cable companies to keep their customers happy.
The deadline for this conversion to digital technology has been pushed back multiple times due to
scheduliing inabilities, concerns about the change and technological

The Pros And Cons Of The American Invasion Of Iraq
The American invasion of Iraq in March 2003 led to the collapse of Saddam Hussein, yet
unleashed a huge partisan war. The instability has led to many terrorist organizations feeding on the
chaos, most notably, Al Qaeda and, now, ISIS (Daesh). The Bush administration s decision to
invade Iraq was not successful in stopping the spread of terrorism and has led to strained relations
with many countries.
Before the American intervention, Iraq was safer and wealthier. It was a relatively wealthy nation
in the 70 s to the 80 s, until Saddam Hussein went to war with Iran. After the war, Iraq needed a
lot of money to help fix it s main infrastructure. He was accused by locals of not spending to fix
the infrastructure, instead spending money on a lavish lifestyle, including construction of palaces
for himself. Saddam Hussein s autocracy gave base camps, working bases, and other backing to
terrorists battling the administrations of neighboring Turkey and Iran, and in addition to hard line
Palestinian organizations. Amid the 1991 Gulf War, Saddam charged a few fizzled terrorist
assaults on U.S. offices. Preceding the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the State Department recorded Iraq as

Effects Of Jurassic Park

a well filmed movie that didn t only have a good plot, but also starred famous actors and actresses

While the movie was marvelous because of its amazing cast, the plot has to have some credit.
Jurassic World is a movie that takes place on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, which is the home
of cloned dinosaurs and the main setting of the Jurassic Park film series. The movie starts off by
introducing Zach and Grey, two brothers visiting the park who are cousins of Claire Dearing, the

Causes Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution is also famous as US independence war or the Revolutionary War. The
disagreement arose from rising stress between inhabitants of Great Britain s 13 North American
colonies and the regal government, which symbolizes the British crown. Skirmishes between
British crowds and regal militiamen in Lexington and Concord in 1775 kicked off the armed clash,
and by the subsequent summer, the radicals were shaking a full scale conflict for their

  • 2. Essay on Nerds of the Football World Nerds of the Football World It s a typical Fall Sunday afternoon and millions of people are huddled around their televisions at home, or at sports bars watching their local team s battle on the gridiron for football supremacy. Meanwhile, a growing number of the most diehard football fanatics are sitting around their computers. Why aren t they watching the game you may wonder? It s simple. A new phenomenon called Fantasy Football is sweeping the nation. The goal of fantasy football is to compile a group of players taken from the National Football League (NFL) that will out perform your opponents. Each player you select earns points for doing certain things within the real NFL game each week. Players score points by rushing for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a variety of different strategies on how, and who to draft. The first time player may look at the game and decide to simply draft who he or she thinks will score the most points, and if they are lucky they might end up with a .500 record. The experienced player knows that it s not only how many points the player drafted will score, but also the demand of the player. Running backs are usually the highest in demand due to the high rate of injury at the position. Stocking up on two or three running backs with your first several picks is a common draft strategy. If your primary running back goes down with an injury, which will likely happen at least once throughout any season, it s imperative to have a decent backup. While you can pick up new players throughout the season off the waiver wire (undrafted players), it is likely that by the time you need a new running back, no one decent will be left. Now that you ve secured a couple of running backs it s time to start looking for your value picks. Every draft is different, and who you choose will be decided as much by what you still need, as by what other players have drafted. If your fellow league members start grabbing quarterbacks early for example, you might find a premier wide receiver ripe for the picking. Don t jump on the bandwagon and start drafting quarterbacks just because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Does A Teacher Need Be A Good Manager Why does a teacher need to be a good manager ? A teacher needs to be a good manager to ensure learning occurs. Without good management skills, learning may not be achieved and the classroom could fall into chaos. To be a good manager in a classroom the teacher needs several tools. These shall be explored below. The classroom is its own ecosystem. The features of this ecosystem revolve around creating a positive atmosphere for learning (Karnovsky, 2015). However, this does not occur overnight, it takes time and energy from the teacher and the students to develop this atmosphere. One method to achieve this, is a student behavioral agreement. This consists of four core concepts; student s rights and responsibilities, classroom... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This agreement which helps create the classroom ecosystem, is also a strategy in preventing problematic behavior. However, there are many more strategies which can be used in different parts of the lesson to minimize and prevent misbehavior. According to Rudolf Dreikurs (Crandall, 2012), there are four goals of misbehavior. These are; attention, power, revenge and assumed disability. To prevent this from occurring the teacher must create a classroom with a sense of belonging, cohesive bonding and appropriate instructional skills. However, doing this does not ensure that they will behave, it is better to assume that all students will misbehave at some point if given the chance. When students do misbehave, teachers can employ the Bumps Model to react appropriately to the level of misbehavior. The Bumps Model is comprised of 10 levels. The bump is the student s escalation. It is important that the teacher can distinguish between what is effective and ineffective to select the best method (Bennett, 1994). At Bump level one the teacher is responding to students when they first cause a disruption, the teacher s response will be low key, e.g.; proximity, the look, and saying the student s name. This follows Kounin (1970) slowdowns, in which the teacher keeps flowing through the material and not letting a small misbehavior get in the way of the teaching. The teacher s response ... • 4. Why Golf Is a Sport Essay Argumentative Essay Why Golf Is a Sport A matter of opinion has separated a variety of sports enthusiasts apart, due to the ongoing debate of whether golf is a sport or simply a skill. Famed golfer Arnold Palmer declared, Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented. (ThinkQuest.com) These words state what every athlete experiences and feels when he/she is turning a double play, making the game winning three point shot, or throwing a hail mary pass for a touchdown. Yet, many people object the physical exertion aspect with golf, that it does not require any. These objectors who say golf should not be included in that defined group are ignorant to athletics and its regulations. My definition of a sport is a competition that involves athletes who play to win within a certain structure of rules and regulations. Anyone can be an athlete; they do not have to be good to play a sport, as long as they try with some effort. A sport requires certain qualities of an individual too that it can not be without. Hand eye coordination is vital to every sport out there. A basketball player has to shoot the ball into the hoop, a football player has to throw the ball to an open receiver, a baseball player has to swing a bat to hit a 95 mile per hour fastball, and golfers have to swing their club and hit a tiny ball a couple hundred yards. It is the number one aspect that is required in all sports. Although it is common to associate sports with many other qualities. The manly qualities of other sports such as cheerleaders and fights usually are not included in golf, some figure because it is missing these qualities, that it should not even be considered a sport. Cheerleaders are important to sports. They keep the crowd excited; they keep the participants enthused about winning; and they give you something else to look at when the action on the field of play grinds to a halt. • 5. The Downfall Of My Family There is no pain quite as severe and longlasting as the pain of divorce. Nothing will ever compare to the sting and agony of watching your beloved family fall victim to a plague that you are helpless to fix. All you can hope to do is to stand by idly as everything you have ever loved turns to ash before your eyes. From the nights of holding my sisters weeping head in my arms, to the nights where I struggle to hold up my own, the evil that is divorce is all destroying and has changed my life in ways that cannot be comprehended. However, just as a phoenix rises from the ashes of his destruction, one can rise above the deep gloomy trenches of depression after the storm of divorce. It all comes down to how you bounce back and learn from it. The downfall of my familyhad a long lasting effect on me and is still present even today, This being said, the one lesson that has carried me through the years is this: What does not kill me will only make me stronger in the days to come. My home was built upon the founding family virtues of love, happiness, laughter, and compassion. However, the foundation it was built upon was made of sand, destined from the start to be sucked in below to the depths of failure. How can any home hope to prosper without a stable foundation? The answer is that it simply cannot. That was strike one of the downfall of my family in the late year of 2012. • 7. Soviet Imperialism And The Soviet Union The United States and the Soviet Union operated as associates and fought against the Nazi regime during World War II, however, the merger did not last long and ultimately became the Cold War. Americans had for some time been careful about Soviet socialism and worried about Russian pioneer Joseph Stalin s overbearing, ruthless guideline of his own nation. As far as concerns them, the Soviets loathed the Americans decades long refusal to regard the USSR as a real part of the universal group and also their postponed section into World War II, which brought about the passing of a huge number of Russians. After the war ended, these grievances aged into a staggering feeling of shared doubt and animosity. After the war, Soviet expansionism in Eastern Europe drove numerous Americans fears of a Russian arrangement to control the world. In the meantime, the USSR came to disdain what they saw as American authorities pugnacious talk, arms development and the interventionist way to deal with global relations. In such an unfriendly air, no single gathering was total to fault for the Cold War; truth be told, a few history specialists trust it was unavoidable (History.com, 2009) When the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, president George H. W. Bush through his secretary of state James Baker promised Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev that in exchange for Soviet cooperation on German reunification, the Cold War era NATO union would not increase one inch . It was an age considered to be the height of the English Renaissance, and saw the full flowering of English literature and English poetry. In Elizabethan theater, William Shakespeare, among others, composed and staged plays in a variety of settings that broke away from England s past style of plays. It was an age of expansion and exploration abroad, while at home the Protestant Reformation was established and successfully defended against the Catholic powers of the Continent. There followed several long years of breathless suspense; then in 1588 the Armada sailed and was utterly overwhelmed in one of the most complete disasters of the world s history. Thereupon the released energy of England broke out exultantly into still more impetuous achievement in almost every line of activity. The great literary period is taken by common consent to begin with the publication of Spenser s Shepherd s Calendar in 1579, and to end in some sense at the death of Elizabeth in 1603, though in the drama, at least, it really continues many years longer. Several general characteristics of Elizabethan literature and writers should be indicated at the outset. 1. The period has the great variety of almost unlimited creative force; it includes works of many kinds in both verse and prose, and ranges in spirit from the loftiest Platonic idealism or the most delightful romance to the level of very repulsive realism. 2. It was mainly dominated, however, by the spirit of romance. 3. The introduction of the IBM Personal Computer in the United States created a novel, profound interest in technology in the 1980s. PC Magazine from February 1982 indicated that technology was slowly improving around that time, but the personal computer took a giant leap into the future and lead to various new inventions and ideas. Since Microsoft was only starting up, there were not many people in the company and Bill Gates handled almost every department. Personal computer software was a very new industry, which explained the lack of employment; however, the employees in it were extremely enthusiastic about it. • 12. Famine, Affluence, And Morality By Peter Singer In his essay Famine, Affluence, and Morality moral philosopher Peter Singer (2013) argues that affluent individuals morally ought to provide an assistance to absolutely poor people up to the point when further giving requires them to sacrifice anything of comparable moral significance. He relies on the example with drowning child when proving that we should accept his strong principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening without thereby sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, we ought, morally, to do it (Singer 2013, 647). There are a lot of objections attempting to show that this example is not a good analogy to the international aid case. If any of them manage to do so, then the Singer s... However, it can still be an important issue for practical ethicist to consider if people will actually stick to his principle after they accept that it is morally right. Singer must have understood that many people will probably find the his strong principle too demanding or counter intuitive and will not follow it. To solve this problem he has worked out the moderate version of the principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something very bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything morally significant, we ought, morally, to do it (Singer 2013, 647). This principle is more plausible for human nature as it leaves some space for individual s personal interests. It is less ambitious and does not promote absolute equality of welfare and resources. Singer himself agreed that in order to do the maximum to reduce absolute poverty, we should advocate a standard lower (Singer 1993, 245). However, I think that the weak principle Singer proposes is a bit shaky because anything morally significant is determined by subjective judgment and can indeed be morally incorrect sometimes. The theory I have chosen to treat in this paper is Roy s adaptation Model. The Roy s model is about adaptation. It has four key concepts, the person, health, environment and nursing. The Roy s adaptation model states a person is a bio psych social being in constant interaction with a changing environment. The adaptation has two subsystems. First the cognator subsystem which is a major coping process involving four cognitive emotive channels: perceptual and information processing, learning, judgment, and emotion. And secondly the regulator subsystem which is a basic type of adaptive process that responds automatically through neural, chemical, and endocrine coping channels. ANALYSIS OF NURSING THEORY Nursing theories have been a major contributor to nursing education, it has helped create a focus. Nursing theories have also helped healthcare professional, managers and patients make unique contributions to health care. According to Im, E. Chang, S.J. • 16. The Cultural And Social Behavior Of A Society The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore, when doing world mission we must be able to relate to the culture in which we are ministering to. We are not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that particular culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave who escaped from Ireland and later returned as a missionary. Being that he understood the people and their language, their issues, and their ways , served as a channel for the people to easily receive from him. Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that particular group, and being able to understand the group in which you are ministering to is very essential in doing missionwork. You have to be careful how you approach people and when you do be conscious of how you engage unbelievers. In conclusion, cultural simply refers to relations. On the other hand, this particular question is referring to the negative fallouts (listed in the text) as results to decisions missionaries have made overtime. Should those missionaries be representatives of all missionaries? In my opinion, the spread of Christianity, as I refer to as the period of missionary work, has had a major, positive influence on the world in many, many ways. Some missionaries may be looked upon as bringing about negative change and some are looked upon as bringing about positive change. I believe it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis Brissa Martinez ENGL 1302 001 Short story analysis September 12, 2016 The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows the both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use of irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the word casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol. Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival is usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves to indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him the fine wine, disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed as a jester. The irony stands in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he removes his mask, once he shows his face and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs. This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato, even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. Fortunato on the other hand is portraying himself as a fool in the outfit he is wearing already. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Interpreter Of Maladies Essay Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of fictional short stories by highly acclaimed author Jhumpa Lahiri. The book illustrates the lives of first and second generation Indian immigrants as they face the challenges and struggles of living a culturally conflicted life in the United States. Lahiri herself was a part of an immigrant household. She was born in London in 1967. Her mother and father were both immigrants from India. They moved to the United Stateswhen she was two years old. Because her mother wanted her to grow up aware of her Indian, specifically Bengali, heritage and traditions, they frequently visited their relatives in Calcutta. Although Interpreter of Maladies is considered fictional, critics suggest that it is also autobiographical because most of them are adapted from her friends , parents , and acquaintances lives. This paper will focus on three specific stories in the book namely: When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine, Mrs. Sen s, and The Third and Final Continent. The aforementioned stories deal with the struggles and challenges faced by most immigrants, specifically, how they deal with the clashing cultures of their old heritage and their new world. Lahiri s Interpreter of Maladies illustrates that although migration entails struggles and sacrifices, the expatriate characters decided to move to a foreign land because of their hopes for a better future, but the strong sense of attachment to their Indian heritage made it difficult for some to adapt to their ... We need to become aware of this process to understand our relationships. When we mention the narrative of autonomy we are speaking about the body. The body is both a site of private and public spheres. Most people see the body as only being in the private sphere but in reality, the body is constantly being regulated an example being like what clothes are appropriate to wear to different occasions. • 23. Reflection On Gender Socialization Through this gender socialization exercise of analyzing how children learn about gender, provides a sense of social structures and institutions are organized, created, and maintained in society. After visiting a department store that separates children s clothes and toys by gender it gave me an eye opening view how society shapes children s mind of what is acceptable for their own gender, and how these patterns create an inequality between each group. From this group exercise, there was a obvious division discussed between the two genders in terms of clothingand toys on a daily basis as these children grow up with these patterns. It was such a normal thing to see that many overlook and never really thought about the long terms effects it has on young children. While discussing with my group about patterns that girls clothing are brighter and bolder in color that incorporate shapes like hearts with an additional component of glitter and sequins. As for boys, there are limited to minimal pieces with darker, and neutral colors that are made with better material. Girls toys can be easily spotted in aisles, covered in pinks and purples; tons of dolls, and disney princesses. Boys had a variety of vehicles and tools that can be utilized for indoors and outdoor playing. As we further discussed about each question, I was surprised how much of an inequality there actually is, but society is moving towards change and is overcoming the gender challenges that one would not necessarily be acceptable in the past. I learned how much of an impact these social structures are applied at a young age and is carried throughout as these children grow up with these aspects. Child development is very important through observations of what is socially acceptable and how these patterns shape who they are as they become adults. For girls, there are more opportunities to dress up, through the variations of clothing. As applied to toys, not only girls just have a doll to play with, but accessories that go along with it such as a doll house, and dress up accessories. Arranged Marriages And Love Marriages Wufeng Yuan Patricia France English 1A 5 May 2015 Arranged Marriage: In the broadest sense, marriages have been divided into two general categories; arranged marriages and love marriages. As the name implies, an arranged marriage is defined as a marriage where the bride and groom are exclusively selected by a third party (usually their parents), while in a love marriage, people choose their marital partners based on their feelings or attraction for one another. In America and Western Europe, marriages based on love, have dominated their cultures for a long time and, as a result, when it comes to arranged marriages, most American s first reaction would be: Oh! This kind of marriage is so relentless and incredible, because we have no voice. However, times are changing, and so is the attitude toward marriage. America is a melting pot, which means it is a multicultural society, and there are so many immigrants from other countries in America. Due to international migration, both arranged marriages and love marriages have co existed in peace and affected each other. Although some argue that arranged couples don t have a choice in choosing their life partner, we can t deny the benefits of arranged marriages, as it can help them obtain full and complete support from their families, better understand each other and provide a high possibility for a successful and happy marriage. The Ionian city states protested against Persian rule, and expended their satraps and asserted their independence, which was the start of the Ionian Revolt. Later, Darius promised to have revenge on Athens and Eretria for their revolt against the Achaemenid empire. Gross Domestic Product is measured in quarters, there are four quarters in one economic year. Say the Gross Domestic Productis down 10% in Quarter One and then in Quarter Two the Gross Domestic Product has gone up by 15%. You subtract 15% from 10% and then you are left with 5%. The Causes And Effects Of The United States Imagine strolling to the local grocery store, taking a morning run, or merely gathering the daily mail wearing a mask as a shield against gassy smog. Think about the terror that strikes some people when they turn on their faucets only to see a string of tainted, brown solution. Pollution affects thousands of human individuals, animals, forests, cities, and ecosystems. With shocking effects and staggering statistics, our water sources, the air we breathe, and the land upon which we live suffer from this plague. Unfortunately, the causes and effects of this universal dilemma deteriorate the health and well being of all life forms on earth. Although land, light, and noise pollution leave their mark on this planet, air and water pollution inflict even more damage. Across the globe, from Beijing to the U.S. to Africa, we see, and contribute to the causes of pollution daily. Because of harmful chemicals that waft up to the atmosphere, the ozone faces depletion. Automobiles and other forms of transportation emit dangerous toxins, along with putrid, black smoke that spews from the exhaust pipes of large vehicles. Smoke from factories contributes generously to contamination, as well. Even natural disasters play a momentous role in air pollution as exhibited by sulfur dioxide, a volcanic gas that kills those who come in contact with it and leaves soil infertile for years (Pollution). Analyzing Wallace s Theory Of Natural Selection Wallace and his line Charles Darwin has credit with the theory of natural selection in the history books, however there was another person Alfred Russell Wallace who came to the same conclusion. He was of plebian descent and had no reservations about going against the doctrines of the Church of England. He, like Darwin, had similar questions about species variation, diversity, and fitness; he decided to seek out the answers in his travels. Wallace s theory of evolution came from his experiences and observations in the unexplored islands of the Malay Archipelago specifically Borneo, Bali, Lombok, and New Guinea and Australia. Although Wallace s journey began in Singapore, Borneo became the stepladder to defining his first law. He combines geology and natural history to hypothesize that species connect in space and time to a closely allied predecessor. Further explaining that these connections are dendritic with extant species outermost and with extinct closely allied species innermost. Whenever branching occurs, new species form from the common branch or closely allied species. He simply argues that if the earth chang es, why species wouldn t do the same. • 42. Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected What the Internet of Things is and how it works The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014). Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the number of IP addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate over the vast network (Pye, 2014). Bronze statuette of Aphrodite Date: late 2nd or 1st century B.C.Culture: Greece This statue of Aphrodite shows the dedication the Greeks had to their gods. The bronze goddess, holding her right arm in the air, gives off a powerful attitude. As the pose itself of the statue is not bland and more active, it gives the impression that this was created during the classical period of Greece when sculpture began having more relaxed, natural poses. The lack of more painstaking muscle and bone structure probably places it in the earlier part of the classical period though. What is most intriguing about the sculpture is the white eyes she is given that, in the face of a more natural, realistic human form, the eyes seem to retain an essence ... Limestone grave relief with two sphinxes Date: late 5th century B.C.Culture: Greece The sphinxes were popular mythical creatures, playing their part in myths and legends and stories throughout time including the story of Oedipus, and the riddle of the sphinx. The beauty of the sphinx in this piece shows how much was passed around throughout Western culture. Egypt also memorialized the sphinx through wall art and sculpture, and this continuation (despite the nonexistence of the sphinx as a real creature) shows how much truly does carry on throughout history. Furthermore, when compared against prescription SSRI s, St. John s Wort treated depression as effectively with response rates as high as 1.02 in five trials and 1.00 in another 12 trials (Dasgupta). Spanish and English are two of the most spoken languages in the world, which have differences and similarities in writing. Despite that both languages use the same alphabet, Spanish has more difficult writing mechanics such as punctuation rule, noun s gender and quantity, and verb conjugation that make writingan essay more laborious. First, Spanish has a complicated punctuation rule because it uses diacritic acute (Вґ) which can change meaning of words if you don t use it, for example, the words vino (wine in English) and vinГі (past tense of the verb come in 3rd. person).
