This document provides troubleshooting steps to resolve an issue where a CD/DVD drive has disappeared or is not being recognized in Windows. It describes possible causes like a driver problem or incorrect drive letter assignment. It then lists 7 potential fixes, including checking power cables, running System Restore, updating drivers, resetting the drive letter in Disk Management, and creating a registry file to remove certain services. The author requests that other fixes be emailed so they can be included in future editions.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

How to test components?
¢ Temperatures – use SpeedFan - http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
“SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with
hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info and show hard disk
temperatures. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some
hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature). SpeedFan can access digital
temperature sensors and can change fan speeds accordingly, thus reducing noise. SpeedFan
works fine with Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, Windows 7, 2008, Windows 8
and Windows Server 2012. It works with Windows 64 bit too.”

¢ RAM memory – use Memtest86 - http://www.memtest86.com/
“There are many good approaches for testing memory. However, many tests simply throw some
patterns at memory without much thought or knowledge of memory architecture or how errors
can best be detected. This works fine for hard memory failures but does little to find intermittent
errors. BIOS based memory tests are useless for finding intermittent memory errors.
RAM chips consist of a large array of tightly packed memory cells, one for each bit of data. The
vast majority of the intermittent failures are a result of interaction between these memory cells.
Often writing a memory cell can cause one of the adjacent cells to be written with the same data.
An effective memory test attempts to test for this condition. Therefore, an ideal strategy for
testing memory would be the following:
1. Write a cell with a zero.
2. Write all of the adjacent cells with a one, one or more times.
3. Check that the first cell still has a zero.
It should be obvious that this strategy requires an exact knowledge of how the memory cells are
laid out on the chip. In addition there are a never ending number of possible chip layouts for
different chip types and manufacturers making this strategy impractical. However, there are
testing algorithms that can approximate this ideal and MemTest86 does just this.”

¢ HDD – use Seatools- http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/
Everything is explained in the software’s web page.
¢ Computer Power Supply (PSU) – for voltages you can use SpeedFan.
When testing the PSU, we must remove it from the case and detach all connectors to the
motherboard, optical drive and video card. Plug in the power cable to the wall, and then into the
back of the power supply. Make sure the power supply is turned on (if it has a button on the back
side). Take a paper clip (for example) and bend it. Two ends of it must be next to each other.
Locate the Green wire on your PSU. There should only be one Green wire, whether you have a
20 or 24 pin power cable. Now find a Black wire on your PSU as well (there are few – it doesn’t
matter which) . Take the paper clip and insert one end into the Green wire and the other end into
the black wire. If your power supply turns on – it’s working. This though doesn’t
guarantee stable voltages.

Issue 26
The CD/DVD drive disappeared
Description:
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or not recognized by Windows or other programs, so
you cannot access a CD or DVD. This issue might have occurred after you installed, uninstalled,
or updated a program or Windows Vista.
Fixes:
#1. Check if the tray opens. If the tray does not open, it means the drive is not getting any
power, so check the power cables.
#2. Run Windows System restore
#3. Try this: Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click the device - Driver's
Tab – click Update Drivers – Right click the drive - Uninstall – Reboot. This will refresh
the default driver stack.
#4. Reset the drive. Click Start, type Disk Management and choose the "Create and format
hard disk partitions" link. If your optical drive is visible here then right-click it, select
Change Drive Letter and Paths, click Change and choose a new letter. If the drive is now
visible in Explorer, then repeat the process to change the drive letter back.
#5. Resetting the drive letter has worked for some. Click Start, type Disk Management and
choose the "Create and format hard disk partitions" link. If your optical drive is visible
here then right-click it, select Change Drive Letter and Paths, click Change and choose a
new letter. If the drive is now visible in Explorer, then repeat the process to change the
drive letter back; if it's still not visible, reboot and it should appear.
#6. Create a text file with NOTEPAD containing the following data exactly as below and
name it FIXCD.REG. If you do not change it from txt type to all files type, then the file
will actually be fixcd.reg.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result. Double click on the
file and say yes to the merge into registry question.
