2. Problems Solutions
1. Computer‟s speed is
very slow
These are the following steps to increase computer speed:
a) Increase your RAM (random access memory). In P-4
system 256Mb ram is recommended. You can
increase up to 512 or 1 GB for best result.
b) Check your hard drive for physical or logical errors
or bad sectors. Often Bad sector reduces the speed of
computer.
c) Check for virus in your computer and also remove
unwanted and unnecessary files from your system.
2. The system shuts down
after being on for a short
time.
The following must be verified:
 Verify that the area in which the system is installed
meets the environmental requirements in the Cisco
ICS 7750 Installation and Configuration Guide and
in the “Site Requirements” section in the Regulatory
Compliance and Safety document that came with
your system.
 Verify that nothing is blocking the air intake or
exhaust.
 The power supply module has failed. Install a new
power supply module.
3. The power supply
module is not operating
within its normal
operating tolerances (in a
single power supply
module configuration).
The following must be verified:
 If the system is still operating, insert a new power
supply module into the unused power supply slot, and
turn it on.
 If the newly installed power supply module is
functioning properly, remove the defective power
supply module in the other slot.
 If the system is not operating, replace the defective
power supply module.
4. The system is overheated The following must be verified:
 Verify that the room temperature in which the system
is located is less than 104°F (40°C).
 Verify that there are no air intake blockages at the
front of the chassis.
 Verify that there are no air exhaust blockages at the
back of the chassis.
 Verify that there are no internal system blockages.

3. 5. Internet connection is
not working.
Steps to follow in troubleshooting internet connetions:
a) Check that the cables are all connected and have
not been accidentally pulled out.
b) Unplug your modem router* from the electricity
supply, wait for about 10 seconds then plug it
back it. Reboot your computer and try your
connection again.
c) You may want to make a phone call to your
Internet Service Provider (i.e. BT, Tiscali,
Virgin, AOL etc) to check that they are not
having any technical issues that could be
affecting your service.
6. Printer is not working. If the printer is not working properly, you may verify based
on the following:
 Check that the printer is switched on and that the
cables and connections to your printer and between
your printer and PC are all OK.
 Look for any flashing lights or error codes on the
printer.
Often a flashing light can indicate a paper
jam that would prevent the printer from
working.
Once the paper is removed the printer should
resume normal operation.
If you can see an error code check its
meaning in your printer manual or by doing a
search online for the model of your printer
along with the error code.
 When you try to print, check that the name of the
printer appears in the printer name box and that this
is correct.
7. Printer is producing
blank or incomplete
copies
 If your printer is appearing to work normally but the
resulting print is blank, illegible or otherwise
incomplete then you should check the status of the
ink cartridges in your printer as they may need
replacing.
 If after checking the status of your ink cartridges, the
printer is still appearing to work normally but the
resulting print is blank or illegible then it may be
necessary for you to clean or calibrate the printer
heads.
 This can normally be done by accessing the service
menu of the printer from your computer.
Often there will be a printer utility program in your
„Programs‟ menu (Go to „Start‟ → „Programs‟)
which can help you service your printer
automatically.

4. 8. Codec error messages
appear when certain
audio files are played.
Open the file in Windows Media Player. Ensure Windows
Media Player is configured to automatically download
codecs.
 If the correct codec is available, the file will play.
Note that you must be connected to the Internet to
download the codec file.
 If the correct codec is not available, check to see if
there is an update available for Windows Media
Player.
For more information, open Windows Media Player Help,
and then search the online Help for codec.
9. The CD or DVD drive
cannot read a disc or
takes too long to start.
 Ensure the disc is inserted with the label facing up
and centered in the tray.
 Wait at least 30 seconds to let the drive determine the
type of media.
 Clean the disc with a disc cleaning kit, available from
most computer stores.
 The driver may be corrupted or outdated. Refer to
“Updating Drivers” on page 22 for detailed
information about restoring and updating drivers.
10. I cannot remove a CD or
DVD.
 Turn on your computer, and press the Eject button
nearest the drive to open the tray.
 If you suspect a problem with the actual Eject button:
1 Click the Windows Start Button and then
Computer.
2 Right-click the CD or DVD drive you want to open.
3 Select Eject from the menu.
11. Some video files do not
play.
 Your file may be corrupt or in an unsupported
format. Open the video file in a video editor, and then
resave the file in a supported format.
12. No display on monitor.
Beep Found.
 When you start your pc, you just hear a beep and
there is no display at all. If you hear beep 2 times
continuously, it mean there is some problem in your
RAM and if you hear beep once after a little gape, it
means your Display Adapter is not working. In case
of display card (VGA) you can also check the
connectivity of card on your mother board if you are
using external card. In case of built-in, use external
VGA card.
13. Error message: Files
Needed To Display
Video are missing or
corrupt.
 Follow this steps:
1. Click the Windows Start Button, right-click
Computer, and then select Properties.
2. Under Tasks, click Device Manager.
3. Click the plus sign (+) next to Sound, video and
game controllers.
4. Right-click TV tuner (select models only) and
then select Update Driver Software.
5. Select Search automatically for updated driver

5. software.
6. Follow the instructions to update the driver.
7. If prompted, restart the computer.
14. Screen is blank. Steps in troubleshooting the blank screen:
1. Press the space bar or move the mouse to make the
screen display visible again.
2. Press the Sleep button (select models only), or press
the Esc key on the keyboard to resume from sleep
mode.
3. Press the On button to turn on the computer.
4. Inspect the monitor video connector for bent pins:
a. If any of the pins are bent, replace the
monitor connector cable.
b. If no pins are bent, reconnect the monitor
connector cable to the computer.
15. Computer seems to be
locked up and not
responding.
Use the Windows Task Manager to close any programs not
responding or restart the computer:
1. Press the Ctrl key, the Alt key, and the Delete
key on the keyboard at the same time.
2. Click Start Task Manager.
3. Select the program that is not responding, and
click End Task.
If closing programs does not work, restart the computer:
a. Press the Ctrl key, the Alt key, and the Delete
key on the keyboard at the same time.
b. Click the arrow next to the Shut Down button
and then click Restart.
c. If this does not work, press and hold the ON
button for 5 or more seconds to turn off the
computer. Then, press the On button.
16. A new device is not
recognized as part of the
system.
 Install the device driver from the CD provided with
the device, or download and install the driver from
the device manufacturer‟s Web site.
 You may need an updated driver for Windows Vista.
Contact the device vendor directly for an update.
 For HP peripherals, visit the HP Web site. Refer to
the Limited Warranty and Support Guide for details.
 Ensure that all cables are properly and securely
connected and that the pins in the cable or connector
are not bent.
 Turn off the computer, turn on the external device,
and then turn on the computer to integrate the device
with the computer.
 Restart the computer, and follow the instructions for
accepting the changes.
 Deselect the automatic settings in the operating
system for the card, and choose a basic configuration
that doesn‟t cause a resource conflict.
 You can also reconfigure or disable devices to
resolve the resource conflict.

6. 17. Unwanted pop-up
advertisements display
on my computer when
connected to the
Internet.
 This is typically caused by adware or advertising-
supported software.
 You can configure your Web browser to block pop-
ups (available in Internet Explorer by clicking Tools
and then Pop-up Blocker).
 To remove adware from your computer, use the
antispyware/adware program included on your
computer (select models only) or any number of
available software programs that remove adware
programs.
 Note that many of the popular antivirus programs
have tools that scan for and remove adware from
your computer.
18. Cursor responds slowly
to mouse movement.
 Use a mouse pad or other rough surface under the
mouse.
 If you have a rollerball mouse, clean the roller ball.

 Select your country/region and language, search on
your computer model number, and then search on the
keyword cleaning.
19. Cursor does not move
using the arrow keys on
the number key pad.
 Press the Num Lock key. The Num Lock light should
not be on if you want to use the arrow keys on the
number key pad.
20. Applications and files
take longer to open or
respond.
 If you created multiple user accounts on your
computer, make sure other users are not logged in. If
there are multiple users logged in at one time, system
resources must be shared among the multiple users.
 Run the Disk Cleanup program to delete unwanted
files (including temporary
 Internet files, installed components and programs that
you no longer use, and files in the Recycle Bin) from
your hard disk drive:
1. Click the Windows Start Button, All
Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then
click Disk Cleanup.
2. Select the drive on which you want to perform
the cleanup.
3. Choose the files to delete by placing a check
mark in the check box next to the file types
listed.
4. Click OK, and then click Yes to permanently
delete the files.
