Thistle Sage is a native California annual herbaceous plant that grows 1-2 feet tall with toothed leaves in a basal rosette. It blooms from March to June with extremely showy lavender to purple flowers in dense clusters. The flowers have bright orange anthers that extend beyond the petals. Thistle Sage is well-suited for summer-dry gardens along with other native plants due to its drought tolerance. It provides excellent habitat for bees and birds that eat its seeds.
