Salvador Dali was a Spanish artist born in 1909 who was one of the greatest surrealist painters. He was renowned for his ability to translate dreams into striking artwork that he called "hand-painted dream photographs." Dali dabbled in many artistic mediums including sculpture, filmmaking, and jewelry design. He was known for his eccentric personality and sometimes bizarre behavior, though he may have exaggerated this for attention. One of his most famous paintings is 1931's The Persistence of Memory which features melting clocks.
