This document discusses sexuality in older adults. It notes that sexuality is an intrinsic human quality involving pleasure, affection, and reproduction. Sexuality is expressed daily through one's body and is unique to each individual. Sexuality in older adults requires open communication between partners to express care, love, tenderness, and trust, which can evoke pleasure whether or not sexual activity occurs. Maintaining good sexual health in older adults can prevent heart attacks, combat depression, improve memory and the immune system, reduce stress, and support aging with quality of life.

2. La sexualidad es una cualidad intrínseca de los seres humanos, que tiene que ver con la
vivencia y la experiencia del placer, la comunicación de afectos y la reproducción.
La sexualidad la expresamos diariamente a través de nuestro cuerpo con actitudes,
comportamientos, emociones, fantasías e ideas; y habrán tantas sexualidades distintas
como personas diversas existen en el mundo.
La sexualidad se ve influenciada y se construye a través de la interacción con factores
biológicos, psicológicos, relacionales, políticos, religiosos, económicos, culturales, entre
otros.

La sexualidad en el adulto mayor es una condición que requiere mucha capacidad de diálogo
entre la pareja, como expresión de afectos, de capacidad de amar, ternura, confianza, pues con
ello se evocará el placer con o sin actividad sexual, lo que es fundamental para lograr una óptima
salud sexual.
Una buena salud sexual en las personas y en los adultos mayores en particular previene el
infarto, combate la depresión, mejora la memoria y el sistema inmunológico, evita el estrés y
ayuda a envejecer con calidad de vida.

- Los patrones de conducta sexual no cambian mucho con la edad, aquellos que fueron
muy activos en la juventud, es muy probable que también lo sean en la adultez.
- Otra condición importante para ser sexualmente activo(a) es el estado de salud propio o
de la pareja.
- Las enfermedades que más afectan el desempeño sexual son:

6. Cuando la relación sexual ya no es posible, las caricias, besos, tomarse de la
mano, los abrazos, asi como, la expresion verbal del afecto y el amor son
importantes para tener el contacto humano y la intimidad emocional necesarios
para la salud fisica y mental.

7. Cada adulto mayor debe vivir su sexualidad de acuerdo a las condiciones de su estado
físico, psicológico y emocional individual, de pareja y no desde los estereotipos sociales
impuestos por una sociedad donde aún se piensa que la sexualidad es sinónimo de
penetración y procreación.
