The Sacred Heart environmental club installed energy efficient light bulbs in 8 lower-income households in New Orleans as part of their work with the nonprofit Greenlight New Orleans. The residents were happy to learn about the savings on their utility bills. The environmental club has a long-standing relationship with Greenlight New Orleans, with many students volunteering over the years. Receiving prize money would help Greenlight New Orleans continue its work of installing efficient light bulbs, as it relies solely on donations and grants to fund the project.

This improves patient and community health and wellbeing through exposure to nature. It also reduces the carbon footprint of the NHS. So far over 2000 trees have been planted at 20 sites, with plans for 50 sites this year. Feedback has been positive from partners and communities who have participated in planting activities. The biggest challenges are long-term funding and marketing/communication to continue expanding the project.

The bank bought 82 solar panels from a community solar garden and gave ownership to a family resource center. The bank hopes this model encourages other organizations to bring clean energy and assistance to communities. Motivating behaviour change – in New Zealand and at EECA
EECA Chief Executive, Mike Underhill, explains the New Zealand context and why EECA is interested in motivating change. He provides a brief introduction to energy use and supply in New Zealand and how behaviour change will have a major impact on these sectors. A range of examples of the types of interventions and campaigns that EECA is currently doing are provided. Mike believes that behaviour change is the key to unlocking potential and with behaviour change alone, we can get a 20% improvement in energy use in New Zealand. However, he also realises that this is the hardest thing to change.
EPRD/EAS+Y Community Garden Overview
This document proposes a partnership between the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District (EPRD) and the Evergreen Alliance for Sustainability and Youth (EAS+Y) to establish a community garden pilot program on a 1/3 acre plot of land within Buchanan Park. Public surveys in Evergreen show strong support for community gardens. The garden would be built and managed by EAS+Y through a 5-year agreement with EPRD. It would expand recreational opportunities with minimal investment and beautify historic EPRD property. We delivered over 80 baskets to children with cancer and other illnesses at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx. The baskets contained items like crafts, toys, and NFL hats to bring hope and encouragement to the children during their daily struggles. Our goal is to continue partnering with Basket of Hope to deliver baskets to more hospitals in the tri-state area and provide support to more children and their families.

My team of 5 people volunteered at The Loft Food Pantry, serving over 1600 people by unloading trucks of food donations and stocking shelves. The food pantry has been operating since 2010 and has fed over 73,000 people regardless of attributes. My team plans to continue volunteering regularly. The food pantry needs a box truck to transport large food donations more efficiently since their growing clientele currently relies on volunteers' personal vehicles. Additional commercial freezers and coolers are also needed to store more perishable donations beyond the day they are received.Defender the mc call family-kids against hunger-3561
The McCall family volunteered at Kids Against Hunger, helping to prepare for their monthly food packaging event where volunteers combine rice, soy, vegetables, and vitamins into packs that are shipped worldwide to malnourished children. The organization also sells merchandise to raise funds and the family plans to continue volunteering monthly as well as help organize larger packaging events involving 75-100 people working together. Kids Against Hunger's food packs each provide meals for six people, helping address the global problem of over one billion undernourished worldwide.

The Refuge seeks to provide stable support to men, women, and children experiencing poverty by meeting their physical, emotional, academic, and spiritual needs through community outreach. Volunteers distributed grocery bags and household supplies to over 50 families in need on one night, and continued delivering supplies until all were gone. The Refuge aims to help families grow and communities strengthen by addressing needs and fostering relationships. Donations would allow them to further support families and residents of Johnson County.

Two members of the DEFENDER team and one from OfficeMax volunteered with Kids Against Hunger, packing 100,000 meals for families in need over 4 hours. They plan to check the nonprofit's website for future volunteer opportunities. If awarded prize money, Kids Against Hunger would use it to buy food supplies, meal-packing equipment, and rent space for additional meal-packing events.

Isaiah House Ministries began in 2012 by providing groceries to 12 families and has since expanded to serve over 350 families per month. Volunteers and residents have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve others through Isaiah House and feel blessed by the positive impact it has on people's lives. Defender's support allows Isaiah House to maintain and expand their services to more people in need across Northern Kentucky through God's grace.

On October 24, 2013, the author and their branch served Camp Adeline located in Adeline, IL by completing fall cleanup in preparation for their fall fundraiser, including clearing brush on trails for hay rack rides. Both the author and their family have a personal connection to the camp and plan to continue visiting and supporting it. Professionally, the team enjoyed serving and would like to help again as the camp is limited by funding. The camp director explained prize money could fund building a new storage facility, pond, and help expand programs to serve more children and include an after school program.

Bike Easy partnered with Dr. Eric Griggs and volunteers to hold educational bike rides at two city parks on September 28th and October 12th. Over 40 riders ages 6-63 learned bike safety and how to feel comfortable on bikes while getting exercise. The rides included stops where riders learned their rights and responsibilities on the road. Dr. Griggs plans to continue the fun rides but is seeking funding to expand the program reach more people.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

- 1. Who did you serve?
- 2. Greenlight New Orleans -A non profit organization that works to install energy efficient light bulbs in New Orleans residents’ households.
- 3. What did you accomplish that day?
- 4. - The Sacred Heart environmental club installed CFL, energy efficient light bulbs in a total of 8 households on November 23rd, 2013.
- 5. - Most of the residents that are serviced come from lower-income households. When we revealed their over-all savings from the installment of the CFL light bulbs, they were thrilled! Not only does this project help conserve energy, but it aids in New Orleans residents’ financial struggles by lowering utility bills.
- 6. What is your team’s plan for an ongoing relationship with the charity? • Greenlight New Orleans has become such a frequent volunteering opportunity at Sacred Heart over the years. A majority of the students have participated in at least one event with this organization. • The environmental club strives to keep this relationship going by organizing more dates and projects for the students to participate in.
- 7. How would your charity benefit from receiving a portion of the prize money? • Greenlight New Orleans is solely funded through grants, individual donations, membership, and through an energy efficiency program called Energy Smart. Because the company does not make a profit off of its service to the community, any money is much needed to fund the whole project for things such as purchasing the CFL light bulbs.
