Sabin Bălașa was a surrealist Romanian painter, writer, and director born in 1932. He studied painting in Bucharest in 1955, Siena in 1965, and Perugia in 1966. Some of his most notable paintings were "Nunta cosmica" (Cosmic Wedding) and "Atlante". He also created several animated painting movies from 1966 to 1979 and wall paintings including "Amfiteatru", "Dezastrul atomic", and "Nunta Cosmica". Bălașa wrote three novels between 1996 and 2006 and died of lung cancer in 2008 in Bucharest.
