Sudden cardiac death is a leading cause of mortality. Two studies examined the causes and mechanisms of sudden cardiac death. The Ando et al. study found that coronary artery disease was the most common cause. The Aiba et al. study identified ventricular fibrillation as the most frequent arrhythmia leading to sudden cardiac death. Both studies provided insight into preventing sudden cardiac death through identifying its leading causes and mechanisms.
