The document proposes an innovative way to measure the emotional intelligence and health of county extension directors (CEDs) using a three phase approach. Phase I measures physical activity levels through a questionnaire. Phase II measures emotional intelligence through a 360 degree assessment completed by CEDs and their peers/subordinates. Phase III measures dietary intake through an online questionnaire. The goal is to use this data to inform leadership development, improve relationships, and encourage CEDs to model healthy behaviors, which could benefit extension program performance and outreach efforts. A healthier leader may lead to a healthier extension organization.
