3. To make a difference and lasting impact to promote happy hearts, calm minds, healthy
bodies, growth mindsets, emotional resilience & self awareness for positive mental health.
In a world where electronics rule behaviour, disconnection and mental health issues are a
rising problem, our next generation needs to build the muscle of awareness, to know how to
slow down, calm the mind, be present and not judge.
OUR MISSION
4. Proposal Overview
LITTLE BIG WARRIOR has created a school-based program, mindful
movement to introduce students to the benefits of MOVEMENT,
MINDFULNESS & MINDSET helping to create calm, focused and emotionally
balanced children.
The programs are for students from K - Yr 6 and Yr 7-12 and are inclusive of
all abilities, including those with additional needs.
The programs are non-spiritual to accommodate students of all backgrounds
and religions.
Rationale
Mindful Movement is popular among students because virtually anyone can do
it. The exercises are adaptable to all fitness levels and participants concentrate
on their own practice. The focus is on personal growth, not in comparison to
others.
Mindful movement exercises are a proven positive outlet for children with
additional needs too.
One of the objectives of the PE program is to provide students with lifelong
fitness skills and help them establish healthy fitness goals, and our mindful
movement program accomplishes both. Once students experience the benefits
our program has, they can continue to practice it on their own for the rest of
their lives.
For those students that are inactive or tend to sit on the side lines in a regular
PE class, our mindful movement program offers an alternative that is non-
judgmental and focuses on self-awareness and individualised development. It
gives students an alternative, while still meeting the state standards for PE.
Through the practice of mindful movement students will experience physical,
mental and emotional benefits.

Benefits of Mindful Movement in the School Setting
Anti-bullying, health and wellness, and character education are common themes in Australian
schools today, all focusing on educating the whole child, mind, body and emotion.
The following are some (not all) of the benefits of our mindful movement program, that supports the
education of the whole child, thus maximising the learning process:
 Provides students healthy ways to express and balance their emotions;
 Promotes a more relaxed, comfortable state of being – the perfect state for teaching and
learning;
 Encourages community and connectedness within the classroom;
 Helps to create an atmosphere of confidence, enthusiasm and non-competitiveness where
everyone can succeed;
 Eases anxiety and tension (such as pre-test or performance jitters);
 Enhances focus, concentration, comprehension and memory;
 Supports social and emotional learning;
 Improves posture, assisting students to sit comfortably for long periods;
 Enhances motor skills and balance;
 Improves mind/body awareness and connection;
 Improves confidence and self-esteem;
 Creates a calm, harmonious and HAPPY classroom.
Those schools that have adapted mindful
movement as a PE subject have noticed
that some students respond more
positively to it because of its non-
competitive nature and the focus on
kindness and compassion have clearly
affected the culture of the entire building.

12. THE STATISTICS
1 in 7 young Australians experiences some
form of mental health condition or illness.
They include depression, anxiety, self harm
and eating disorders, and are often a direct
response to what is happening in their lives.
Alarmingly, however, 70% of children and
young people who experience a mental
health problem have not had appropriate
interventions at a sufficiently early age. The
emotional well-being of children is just as
important as their physical health. Good
mental health allows children and young
people to develop the resilience to cope
with whatever life throws at them and grow
into well-rounded, healthy adults.
Most children grow up mentally healthy, but
surveys suggest that more children and
young people have problems with their
mental health today than 30 years ago.
That’s probably because of changes in the
way we live now and how that affects the
experience of growing up.
Suicide is the
leading cause
of death
among young
Australians
Research has shown that when children practice meditation on a
regular basis, it can change the brain.
There is neuroplasticity. What this means is that our brains are not
as fixed as once thought.
Through meditation, brain centres for emotions and executive
functioning can be changed and help children in a variety of ways.
It can also help children regulate their emotions, thereby having
fewer meltdowns, reduce their impulsivity and improve
concentration and focus.
13. TESTIMONIALS
“ Shannon taught at my child’s school
last year. My child absolutely loved it!
My child goes to a special needs
school and so far has never willingly
participated in any programs due to
severe anxiety. For Shannon to come
in and teach and have my child be so
enthusiastic, engaged and proud of
their new exercise ability is a credit to
how patient, loving, insightful,
knowledgeable and skilled Shannon is
as both a person and a mindfulness
instructor.
My child came home after every lesson
happy, calm, regulated, proud and
looking forward to their next session.
I highly recommend Shannon and Little
Big Warrior to everyone ”

“Shannon has such a beautiful
energy and my 6 year old boy
and 10 year old girl have just
loved her kids classes.
We have never been able to join
a class in person as we live
interstate, so I am very grateful
Little Big Warrior have gone
online.
Shannon’s themes are always
engaging; my 6 year old enjoys
the stories and my 10 year old
loves feeling more strong and
relaxed.
They always come away from
Shannon’s classes feeling calm
and also energised and they
look forward to each session.
I would highly recommend these
classes.”
