SAARC is an economic and political organization established in 1985 with 8 member countries in South Asia. It aims to promote economic and social growth across various areas including agriculture, telecommunications, health, transport, and science and technology. SAARC implemented the SAFTA agreement to help member countries achieve economic growth through trade by lowering duties between nations. However, SAARC has struggled to be fully effective due to its failure to solve core political issues between members like the Kashmir conflict and Sri Lankan civil war, which has prevented deeper integration and limited SAARC's role in the region to just holding meetings.
