The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is an economic and geopolitical organization of eight South Asian countries aimed at promoting regional cooperation in areas such as agriculture, health, and technology. Established in 1983, it aims for economic growth, self-reliance, and increased collaboration among members, with India being the dominant nation. The SAFTA agreement, effective since 2006, strives to enhance trade among members, yet intra-SAARC trade remains low relative to its GDP.
