Human Resources Manager
• Oversaw the recruiting, compensation, employee relations and benefits administration for 350-
400 employees in 25 different locations throughout the state of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
• Successfully integrated two distinct cooperatives into one company.
UNIEK, INC., Waunakee, WI 2008 – 2012
Designer, American manufacturer, and supplier of picture frames and home decor accents for North American retailers.
Human Resources Manager

training, employee relations, payroll and safety. Planned and administered the HR budget.
• Negotiated benefits and managed the compensation program for the company which had 300
employees and 70-100 seasonal employees.
• As the company reorganized to control costs through the difficult economy, assumed day-to-day
responsibility for HR duties as the staff was cut to two other HR professionals.
• Formalized the executive recruitment and interviewing: developed interview questions to
determine fit, established phone screening questions, initial recruitment forms, and a detailed
timing and action plan that clarified each person’s responsibilities through the process.
• Participated in the selection and implementation of ADP’s Human Resources and Benefits
(HRB), which integrated into the existing Pay Ex system and allowed for reconciliation of benefit
bills and sharing benefit information with insurance providers in real time.
• Initiated Uniek’s first dependent scholarship program. Developed the program communication,
and selected an outside company to manage awarding of the scholarships. In its third year, the
scholarship program has proven an effective marketing and recruiting asset to the organization.
• Established an Injury Review Committee that identified strategies to proactively prevent
accidents, reducing Worker’s Comp Mod from 1.12 to .8 in three years.
Russell Falk Page 2

• Established a systematic approach to employee evaluations and new hire orientation that helped
reduce turnover by more than 50% in many locations.
• Led change to decentralize the organization, giving department heads more responsibility for
hiring, evaluating, training and disciplining their staff.
• Conducted cost analysis and introduced new employee benefits including dental, short-term
disability and supplemental life insurance.
• Analyzed, initiated, upgraded and conducted a variety of training programs including food
preparation, material handling, responsible beverage serving, safety, and management
improvement techniques.

• Reduced Workers’ Compensation expenses by 40% over five years through a proactive approach
to employee safety, active case management, and return-to-work programs.
