Silver Ring and Heath Enclosure
No formal dress code, but all racegoers
are encouraged to dress smartly
Grandstand and Royal Enclosure
Both areas have their own dress code
Everywhere: no fancy dress, novelty, promotional or branded
clothing. Bare chests are not permitted at any time
3. The Grandstand Enclosure
Women
• A hat, headpiece or fascinator
should be worn at all times
• No strapless or sheer strap dresses
or tops
• Midriffs need to be completely
covered
• Shorts are not permitted – trousers
must be full length
• Jackets, pashminas and other cover-
ups may be worn, but only over
outfits that already comply with the
dress code
Men
• No sports attire, jeans or shorts
• Must wear a suit, shirt and tie
Children in the Grandstand should also follow the dress code
Grandstand racegoers are welcome to follow the Royal Enclosure dress code if they wish
4. The Royal Enclosure
Girls (age 10-16) should wear a smart summer dress,
appropriate for a formal occasion.
A hat, headpiece or fascinator can be worn but is not required
Boys (age 10-16) should follow the men’s dress code (a black or
grey morning suit), or wear a dark lounge suit with a shirt and tie
Overseas Visitors and Serving Military Personnel are welcome
to wear their formal National Dress or Service Dress in the Royal
Enclosure
5. Royal Enclosure: Women
• Choice of a formal day dress, trouser
suit, or a skirt and top
• Dresses and skirts should fall just above
the knee or longer
• The straps on dresses and tops should
be at least one inch wide (2.5cm)
• Midriffs must be covered
• Strapless, off the shoulder or
halterneck styles are not permitted
• Trousers must be full length and part of
a matching trouser suit (fabric and
colour should co-ordinate with the
jacket)
6. Royal Enclosure: Women
• Hats should be worn at all times
in the Royal Enclosure
• As an alternative, a headpiece
with a base of 4 inches (10cm) or
more in diameter may be worn
• Fascinators are no longer
permitted in this enclosure
• Jackets, pashminas and other
cover-ups can be worn, but only
over outfits that already comply
with the dress code
7. Royal Enclosure: Men
• Black or grey morning
dress is required –
including a waistcoat, tie
and top hat
• Black shoes must be worn
• Cravats are no longer
permitted instead of a tie
• Top hats must be black or
grey – coloured ribbons or
bands are not permitted
Top hats may be removed within restaurants, a private box or a private club
(or that facility’s terrace, balcony or garden). Hats can also be removed when
in any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden
