The document summarizes a study on the seasonal migration patterns of Rough Skinned Newts in southern Oregon. Population counts were conducted around Eel Lake in October and November 2009. Several factors were considered as possible reasons for changes in the newts' migration, including high pH levels in the lake from fertilizer and algae runoff, predator avoidance of garter snakes, climate change effects on seasonal rains and temperatures, and potential anoxic conditions in the lake. While preliminary, the study found correlations between newt abundance and the absence of predators. Further long-term research is needed to better understand the causes of changes in the newts' migration.
